Motion had a list of ten "Overseas Dealers". One was listed as "O. Sigardson Reykjavik, Iceid." Others were in Iran, Kuwait, and Hilo, Hawaii.

I have been tracking down some of the Motion built cars of the 70s and 80s and have purchased two from Joel. They are "his and her" Motion cars used in Motion catologs and as show cars and as personel transportation. One is a 1989 Mustang GT convertiable which I think is the last car Joel Built. He did some 3rd Gen big block Camaros, a 4 door Corvette show car, some supercharged and some turbo and others. Here is a web page of the Motion Mustang GT http://hometown.aol.com/hotjob57679/page1.html
I may be selling this car if anyone is interested email me
Joel was building cars and also bought back some of his old cars and restored them then sold them again. I believe one collector bought 3 Motion Corvettes that Joel found and restored.

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif Don't worry about that I get plenty of sun. But Hilo also gets more rain than anywhere else in the US. I need something to do on those gloomy days. What's better than going through some old sugar fields looking for cars!

Thanks Harry!! Car is in US safely now! Heading to IA. It was sent to Iceland by airplane in Jan. of 1971, so I decided to bring it back the same way. Thanks to the previous owners for cooperating with pics, documentation, and original parts that were gathered to be installed on car once again. Such as original headers, sidepipes, ladder bars, ansen wheels, etc. The largest paper in Iceland actually ran a story on this transaction. The story was labeled " Motion camaro going back to USA." The original owner e-mailed me this statement: This is more than just a motion car, it is a large initiating part of Icelands history of racing culture." I have some nice vintage photos of car with Joel Rosen and crew prepping and racing this car. Harry even sent me an Iceland motion jacket. Joel and Orvar were and still are close friends, and Joel visited Iceland several times. Orvar (former motion dealer in Iceland) is also going to attend this years reunion. I plan to have the car there with some poster size vintage photos. Again, thanks to the 3 previous owners! Dave /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Nice car! What year was it built?
I know Motion Performance concentrated on overseas sales after the trouble with US Gov. in 1974.

05-13-2003, 12:42 AM
Will post more info. as I want to be sure it is accurate. I believe conversion was around 77. I could be wrong. It does retain all of the motion drivetrain, and components. It was repainted in Sept. of 2002 and was a no hit rust free car.

I hope your going to retro back the car and put back on the Ansens and side pipes etc?

05-14-2003, 06:13 PM
Dave, the original parts that were taken off, will be reinstalled immediately. Not much needs done at all. The ansens were on it before it left Iceland. Would not do it any other way! I love the "day 2" look! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

An NOS set of chrome Hooker BB '70-'81 camaro headers & side pipes were on ebay last year and only went for $750. If I knew they were only going to go for that much I'd bought them. Wonder if Hooker will rerelease them?

05-14-2003, 06:44 PM
The 2nd owner kept the original headers and sidepipes. They will be in the car when I get it. But not for long!

Just got back from seeing Daves motion car. The pictures really don't do it justice. It is way cool. Set up to race by people who obviously knew what they were doing. All kinds of period correct parts, and parts stamped, Sweden, and Iceland. Livin close to Dave is almost as good as livin next to a nudie bar, always somethin neat to see. Harry, there were a couple of hose clamps that had Sweden stamped on them, something that you don't see here. Who ever painted that car did a very nice job. And I can see why those guys hated to see it leave. That car was probably the baddest boy on the island. Schonye

Harry, In a 1975 Motion catalog there is a letter from Joel R stating that in 1976 he is offering a Dealer Franchise Program. A Motion Franchise required a $25,000.00 investment. This would be at least a 2 car order. Did any other Motion cars come to Iceland?

I was talking to Joel(Mr.Motion) about this thread and it brought back some good Motion memories--------" My good and old friend Orvar Sigurdsson who was here recently with his whole family was MOTION ICELAND for many years. He had a Motion Camaro and I made a lot of trips up there both to race and visit with him .Sometimes some of the guys like Skippy my service mgr.went along. My son Shawn and daughter Robin were up there on vacation in the summertime.Great Place, believe it or not,I even made an exedition over to Greenland( which is cold,Iceland is not) to see real Eskimos one summer.Them was da days.I stopped there a number of times on my way over to Belgium, Holland,Germany and Switzerland to race and be the Concourse D'elegance Judge for the Swiss, Holland and German Corvette Clubs and get togethers. They were nice enough to pay for the trips and put me up in very nice places,Marty went once too.GREAT TIMES!"----Joel
