Does anyone remember die cast air cleaner emblems? The above auction is for a claimed NOS part with no part #, seller also has another auction for a 396 emblem claimed for a Z-16. Maybe my memory is just going to sh#t, but I cant seem to remember them bolting on. Anybody have less fog in the brain cavity, or am I trying to remember something that never was? If authentic, why no part #? Kurt?
Thanks,

They never existed. Its repop, thats why theres no part #. The 65 Z16's had a metal 396 emblem similar to the "other" repro emblem the guy has on ebay, and the guy repopping them probably just decided to try his hand at a 427 one too... Theyre both repros, no doubt about it. He's had them on ebay before by the way. Good piece for a series II car. lol /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsdown.gif

Kid, Thanks for reassuring me than my memory is still somewhat intact, hard to imagine someone out there is up to a C note on the 396 emblems believing them to be real. This kind of crap is what makes it tough on everybody as the more people get burned, the more this hobby gets a bad name. Glad to know I am not loosing what is left of my tired overloaded confused mind.....
Thanks,

It may really be a 20 yr old emblem. There was a aftermarket company making emblems like that in the 60s. They ran ads in car magazines and their emblems often looked like they copied the factory decal. Some early sixties cars did use metal emblems on air filters and valve covers and this company probably tapped into the idea that the decals were cheap looking compared to good old metal emblems.
