Frame rail plate for COPO, possibly a old NOS part or is someone manufacturing another part to build fake COPO cars? What a tangled web we weave.

It looks like there might be a stamping mark in the center. The only way to tell is if original has stamping marks, part number and thickness of the part. There maybe some details a tool and die person could see, as machines used back then and today are probably quite different. Roger

Looks like somone made it in a shop. The bottom left hand side, I can see saw blade marks and it looks like they took a grinding wheel to it to try and straighten it up.

Bill, I agree, I didnt see the ad stating it was an NOS, but the phrase Hard to find part is a bit confusing since Jeff posted a link where you can buy as many as you want at $9.95. The Hard to find bit leads towards an original. If it is a repro, the clear way to advertise would be to say new reproduction plate. That method does not leave a person to wonder at all. Creative advertising.

Its a reproduction. I know. I had a few made, same cost to make just one. Had it made from my rusted thru original. I needed it for my COPO restoration. VIN# 641XXX BDY # 286XXX X44 car. I did not know where to purchace this item. I found it a hard part to find. Thought i might offer this part to others that may need it. Motown, you make it sound like im up to no good offering this part.Im not trying to help others to clone. Do we all need to be like Joel Rosen and offer no one a rare or exclusive part unless they verify what they have . I have no paper work to verify my car but i know what it is and that is all that matters. Most of the information i obtained about my car was through this site and i thank everyone for that.I have known the history on my car since 1980. All i ask is not to make me sound like a bad guy for offering this part. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

Larry Christensen has been offering them for years. These are rare, but not COPO only. They are on all non-convertible dual exhaust 69 Camaros.

What is with the studs sticking out ?

If it had the self tapping bolts to mount the plate and hanger to the frame, It would be hard to tell from original unless you check the thickness of the plate. I decided to have the studs tack welded to the holes in the plate. I was not sure which route to take on it. I guess wannabes making a clone would not notice and you could still mount the hanger. If i seen this exhaust plate w/ studs on a car, i would question it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif

Leo,
No offense intended, just paying attention to what is going on in this hobby, really not different than any other part replaced during a restoration, but it is another part guys can use to fake a car, the idea here is to make sure everyone in this hobby, like the new guys, know that this stuff is available so they wont base a decision on a car because it has a part that was not believed to be reproduced. The fact that some one uses one of these parts on a genuine car does not intend to mean their car is anything but genuine. Yours looks like a better quality then the ones available on the web site. Didnt mean no offense.
Thanks,
