Check eBay #2415818757, they are SS 427 emblems that I've put a bid on. Question is that the seller has posted them as "new" emblems and not "NOS". Maybe they are finally being reproduced?? I think this is the same seller with the finned aluminum valve covers having Yenko, Nickey, ZL1 logos cast into them.

Kevin, Hard to answer your question from his description. In the lower picture, doesn't the mounting stud on the number seven look scraped, as if it once had a compression nut shoved onto it? Maybe these are actually used?

Yes I saw that on the stud, could be grease or some other type of residue; so I didn't draw any conclusion from that. These would be easy to repop, and there seems to be a lot selling on eBay these days. He may be honest in his description when typing "new", which would be accurate if they were made recently.

In the past, I also had questions whether the Valve covers with the Yenko, Nickey logos this seller was selling as "rare" old stock, were actually vintage ones. Not that they were ever installed on a real car before, but just as an aftermarket item. Seems to have a lot of these valve covers to sell and are now listed as "new" in the current auctions. I'm not sure that anyone would use them on a real car, but they look neat to have as a memoribilia item.

He had a pair of the 427 emblems up for auction a month or two ago and I asked if they where org or repos. the auction ended at over 200.00 and then he emailed me back and said they where new thats all /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif and then he said that he had more sets if I was interested. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

I first noticed this with the 76 Nova SS emblems that he is selling. It's the same story there, those emblems used to be hard to find, but he seems to have plenty to sell now. I think that he has access to early production on lots of repro parts, and he is maximizing his profit by selling them one at a time on eBay instead of putting them in catalogs. Just clever marketing I guess. He is not really being dishonest, but hre's not volunteering any information either. I think that if we are patient we will be able to get the same parts cheaper after a while.

There is a local guy casting up new emblems for the Canadian Beaumonts. I think that they are poured rather that die cast in a machine. They look good but are said to be not quite as sturdy as the machine cast parts. I imagine any energetic mould maker, with some money burning a hole in his pocket, could do the same.

Careful guys, he got me on some emblems, claimed they were old, turned out be repros without the GM part number.

Guys THIS IS WEIRD! I was just talking to a friend today about this crook. Look at all his auctions and of course they are all private auctions. This guy is someone that I would never bid on a private auction with. Another thing is that all of his stuff has a very unusually high number of bids on his auctions. This is another questionable seller that must be exposed out in the open for what he is. JMHO

The seller that has the SS 427 emblems will NEVER get any of my business. A few months ago two identical items were for auction. One was a reserve auction the other was JOPARTS private auction. The parts were the same and both in original GM boxes. I bid on both sets since we were working on two cars that could use them. The first auction ended with only 3 bidders and I was high bidder the day before. His auction was over the following day with well over 20 hits at over 300 dollars higher than the earlier auction. The auction ended with the reserve not met at about 490.00. I later emailed the seller and his reserve was just a hit away from his high bid. I did not buy. That alone proves to me that the private auction's are very shady. Why would there be almost no bids on one item and over 20 on the same item on a private auction. Can you say scam...BKH

As I look closer at some of his auctions, they look more and more deceptive. It looks like he was previously describing the same parts as NOS. Example (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=10076&item=2413526 591) And in his current auctions he strongly implies that the parts are NOS. "Collected over the years?" Example (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2415818221&category=10 076) And everything he sells seems to be "rare" but then he seems to have more a week later.

Definitely, a difference between ads, as in the bbdon clickable example above, the eBay ad for the SS 427 emblems says "NOS", in addition to stating they are "not a copy or reproduction". Then the more recent eBay ad for these SS 427 emblems by the same seller (clickable in 2nd post of this thread), is re-typed as only being "new", no claim to being "NOS", and the statement of "not being a reproduction/copy" was removed. Appears as if they could be reproductions, and therefore the seller has changed his ad.

The Parts Place has both "New Reproductions" and "Vintage NOS" SS 427 emblems available, they are not the same items.

OK, my mistake, my example was not valid. It would be easier to avoid a mistake like that if he would jut tell his buyers that the emblems are repros, instead of leaving that information out. I still think that he's hoping that his buyers will think that the new repro emblems are NOS, and pay NOS prices.

Stefano I have told you in the past that I think that this guy is a crook. I know that he is your buddy and all but you have to admit that some of his "practices" are not ethical.

Supercars brought up an interesting thing. This guy was once running a pair of his bogus valve covers that he was trying to pass off as real and their was only his and one other set on at the same time and guess what? His had I think 5 times the amount of bids as the other set. Of course his auctions are private so you couldn't see what was going on behind the scenes.

Frank,
The point I was making is that they have both parts available. If you don't approve of his/their business practices then I wouldn't expect that you would be purchasing anything from him. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

I was at Joes a couple of days ago. I asked him about the emblems. He brought me in the back and showed me a box of ss427 emblems that said NOS, then we went down the isle and on the shelf there were the repops. He explained he had repops made and after that he ran across a guy who sold nothing but Impala parts and was going out of business and he bought a bunch of parts including the nos emblems. Now a days you have to question anything you buy so you know what you are buying. I have bought parts from Joe and always been happy with his parts and service.
