OK, Very Nice! I was actually searching for any RAW data, dated pics, or anything of the sort acknowleging any 1967 Camaros in Road Race circles; ie: like any of the original cars that were Raced back in competition in the early 67 year worldwide. I would also like to get my hands on a set of those DANA License Plate Frames! Thanx for your efforts! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

With regard to cars prepared for road racing by DANA, four cars were built in DANA's shops in 1967, all primarily by Bobby Joe McDonald. Two were SS350s taken right off the lot in mid-January (the Z-28 was not available in California that early). These two cars were prepared for Dick Guldstrand and Tom Lynch and both raced at the Sebring Trans Am race at the end of March '67. Both of these cars are accounted for. The Lynch car only resurfaced within the last couple of months. The other two cars were real '67 Z-28s which were ordered new by Ron Tonkin Chevrolet in Portland and sent to DANA for road race preparation. Both of these cars were damaged in a trailering accident in August '67 and there is conflicting evidence as to whether the cars were rebuilt or destroyed after that. The whereabouts of the DANA-prepared Tonkin cars, if they exist, is currently unknown.

Can you make heads or tales out of this engine pad stamping? This short block saw the light of day in a long time yesterday when I delivered it to the rightful new owner. It reads: D.C. 301...001

If I remember correctly,the original assembly is V0227M and maybe half of a O . The casting date:2-14-7 and casting # 657.
If you look at the first picture, right in the middle front of the engine pad you might be able to make out a little oval stamped with the name Traco.

Before Chevy came out with the Z/28 302 engine, the hot rodders and Indy racers were using the same bore/stroke engine but they called them "301s". Traco was building some of the 301s for racing so maybe they still called the 302 a 301?

Sure looks like a late feb built '67 302 that was race prepped by Traco - I'm sure Jon will chime in on this one...So, it's sold?

JoeC is 100% correct.
The D.C. is for Dana Chevrolet, and 001 is for the 1st engine... It is sold.

There is a cool picture in a late 67 to early 68 PHR magazine of Bob McDonald loading a 302 into a 67 Z Camaro Trans AM car. The article is about engine swapping. Someone must have had the picture laying around so they used it.

Astock,

I had heard about your motor a couple of weeks ago. Thanks for showing us some pictures. Who got it, the owner of the Guldstrand car or the owner of the Lynch car?
