What was your first car? I am sure this has been done before but since I am kind of new here maybe everyone wouldn't mind telling a few stories once again!
My first car was a 1969 Camaro Z28. I bought the car in 1970 from Roger Penske's Uncle's son (his cousin) who painted the car Sunoco Blue with pink pin stripes. I kept the engine stock but put headers on it. Body mods include American Torque Thrust wheels with some Goodyear Blue Lines. It had a 4-spd, cowl hood, and a gauge package (may have been aftermarket)? The car screamed! I have tons of pictures and old time slips but I do not know how to get them on the YENKO website. I had the car for 20 years, then sold it to a neighbor. He then sold it to his uncle who gave it to his son and he raced it for a year or so. Since then we have chatted little about the car. This past 9/11/01, he was killed in the terror attacks. I do know where the car is though. It has been sitting since 1991 inside my neighbor's uncle's garage. The family stopped driving it after their son was hit by a drunk driver with some friends. (He was in his friends car.) Unfortunately, bad things happen to good people and their son is now wheelchair bound. I have been thinking about giving the family a call. I may have to expand my garage to fit one more in there. Time have changed and now I have a 1966 Corvette and a 1972 Chevelle. Thanks for reading.

My first car WAY back in late 1993 was a 1977 Pontiac Grand Prix 400, auto. It was primer grey with white vinal interior and white vinal half top. It was more like a ghetto crusier though! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Hey Mossport, send me the pics and I will post them for you.
In 1969 a 1969 Hotwheels car called "Beatnik Bandit".

I bought my first POS auto in 1967. It was a 1960 Pontiac Parisienne 4 door hardtop with a big in-line six and powerglide. Very sharp Bronze color. A major boat to say the least.

First transportation? 1969 900 Harley Sportster Hardtail Chopper that broke my ankle starting it. First car? 1970 LS-6 Chevelle SS, Cortez Silver, Black Interior, M-50 tires on rear with gabriel air shocks. Factory 8 track player with two 8 tracks, Led Zeppelin and the Doors. Reason for parting ways, one too many hole shots with the big tires and a car full of people. Busted the turbo 400 trans case all the way around where it bolted to the engine. Now I have to confess, I figured Chevys werent any good, bought a 65 Mustang with a radical engine, on went the 50 series tires. Traction bars? Who needs them. Showed up to pick up the girl I was dating, found out someone else was dating her that showed up the same time in his built 66 GTO. Did we fight? No, we settled it like wanna be men. A drag race. When I dumped the clutch at about 7500 RPM the rear end housing twisted down so hard it busted the whole center section out. Had the car towed to the local hang out and parted it out on the spot. Best part is, the other guy, he was so rattled watching the Madman, we both dumped the girl and are friends to this day. He is a freind of Vern Bower on this site, also restoring a Dusk Blue Glockner COPO right now, so this unbelievable tale can be checked out. Have Vern ask. Moral of this story? The Chevelle made me walk, OK, I sold it for $1500. The Ford? It made me walk also, but it also caused me to not get laid, OK, I sent it to the Junkyard. That one incident made me a Chevy guy forever...Who says that the women dont have the power and control! Somewhere in that first year of having a drivers license there was also a Mopar, 68 Coronet RT, 440 magnum. My fondest memory of that car was not owning it anymore, but one incident does come to mind. I raced and beat a 68 400 Firebird, his reason for losing? He claimed he couldnt see the road cause I jumped him out of the hole and there was so much blue oil smoke coming from my tailpipes he had no vision. Never before or after have I heard THAT one again, but the funny part was I know he was telling the truth as I couldnt see him in the mirror for the smoke, I was pouring 5 quarts of bulk oil a day in that thing. I think the only reason it was fast is because it was so worn out there was no friction. Me and the neighborhood guys once tried to blow up a 283, wedged a board on the gas pedal and stood back to watch. Screamed for twenty minutes till it ran out of gas, didnt blow. Put gas back in it and parked it back in the neighbors driveway where we found it. He drove it another year before it finally went, I bet he still wonders occasionally why that happened. That was all the reasons I needed to stick with Chevrolet, and except for a few momentary lapses of reason along the way, I have never looked back. When you start asking questions of the nature of first cars, all sorts of things come to mind. Many would be best forgot.........
Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

65 2 door impala 3 on the tree converted to a 3 sp. in the floor, original 283 car switched to a 69 350, 300hp engine and added headers, it was quick don't know what gears were in the rear. bought it for $800 sold it for $800 then bought a 70 mach 1, 351 cleveland, 3 speed that would fly, got conservative, went to college, save gas right, then 1 69 vw bug, on to a 76 pontiac astre, what a turn for the worst.
My first car was a hugger orange / white striped, '70 RS Z-28 that I bought in 1980 when I was a junior in highschool. It still had the original LT-1, M-22 and factory 4.10 gears. The car was a screamer and won numerous street battles on the weekend. For a while it had the full chrome hooker headers and side pipes along with a chrome roll bar. Many passengers burned their legs on those side pipes. The car took me to my highschool prom. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif and to beach week after graduation with a keg of beer in the back. So many memories in the car! Today, the car still resides in my garage, original drivetrain still intact waiting for its turn to be brought back to showroom condition. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Some of guys are showing your age, LOL.
My first ride was í78 Camaro 305 4spd, laugh all you want but it was living large at the time to be 18 and own a 2yr old Car! In 1980.
It came in on trade at the bike shop I was wrenching at being my Uncle and the Owner were buddies and we all rode together we did a little in house creative financing I think with GMAC and the folks co-sighed the loan, It went straight home and I sold or traded everything of value away like most guys did and picked up the Cragers and air shocks! We were in business now guys!, Chrome traction bars came later after sever wheel-hop developed from the meats, Had allot of great times in that car, it was ok quick just right for a first car, chirped the tires well up into third gear, Kevin may remember the car running around the North end, Bitter lake, Golden Gardens an Colby of Course.

Had to shake out the cobb-webs----1958 Pontiac Chieftain, tri-power, blue/white ext. No, I didn't buy it new, bought it from my cousin 1965.It was a love/hate affair---loved the car, especially parking with your H.S. girlfriend,----but hated to wax it[ back then my cousin drilled it into my head that you had to use Blue Coral Wax [ which was a several step process that was probably invented by Arnold Schwarzenager. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Actually when I dug for the 70 Chicago Auto Show pictures I came across slides of me learning to drive on my Z at I believe age 14. What the heck is a 14 year old doing driving that kind of car in a cemetery? Great place to learn I guess? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif At the time the Z was painted exactly like Denis's first ride. Will post the CAR pic tomorrow.

MY FIRST CAR WAS A 1970 SS(?)ELCAMINO. HAD A 350, M21, 12 BOLT(4:10 POSI). WAS NEVER SURE IF IT WAS A REAL SS OR NOT. OTHER THAN THE 350, IT SEEMED TO HAVE ALL THE RIGHT PARTS. WISH I STILL HAD IT...

I bought a '59 Rambler wagon ($50) with a Caddy Town'n'Country radio (and those cool Rambler fully reclining seats /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif ) The Rambler didn't have any brakes backing up; I bumped into a couple of things (telephone pole, passing car) along the way. I traded the Rambler for a '63 Mercury Comet with a 260 V8, blew the rear seal on a road trip and ran the engine dry. Light came on, filled it up with oil, drove it home, fixed the seal and ran fine after that. Had an aftermarket AC unit that slowed that car to a crawl..
Sold the Comet, moved from Iowa to Atlanta, and bought my first "real" car, a '66 Chevelle, 283 and 'glide, L-60's in the back along with those twist-in coil spring spacers. Had a friend with a '67 Barracuda, 273 and a 3-spd auto, He would beat me in Low, but I would pass him everytime I shifted into High. My brother sold me the Chevelle for $600, and he made me get my driver's license first. Up until then I had not seen the need for a license!
My boss in Atlanta let me use his car for my driving test, he had a late sixties Jaguar E-type; I drove it for about three miles before taking the test. Had a real "on-off" throttle in that car, and I had a lot of fun on the test!
Wow, that was 32 years ago...

Bought a 57 Olds in 1962 went to the strip and ran in the 16s! Thought I was hot stuff until those GTOs came out. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif and no smart remarks Mr.70 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif
Some of you that post at Team Camaro might remember this so play along and lets see if any figures it out... This is fitting here as my first car was a 1963 model and was equipped with an alum block, alum heads and was an 11:1 compression from the factory V8. I'll check back and see if if anyone figures out this super car!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif
Super-Duty Catalina? Think it also had swiss-cheese frame Aluminum fenders or dipped. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

You guys are too good!! '63 Olds Cutless, 215 cubic inches of alum power, 4 bbl and all!! The car cost me $300 and came with a 4 track mounted on the hump. That little mill had 100K on it when I got it and I put 60K more of pure abuse and not a problem. The mill was way before it's time and if GM would have pulled it out of the closet when the import craze hit it would have altered automotive history... Here's a '64, there wern't any major body changes that year... http://autohobbypage.com/cgi-bin/image.pl?/show/all98/all048.jpg

1979 Pontiac 6.6L Trans AM with 403 olds engine. I graduated from the AF Academy and before your senior year, we would fly to Pontiac Michigan, have lunch with the brass and then go out to the main parking lot where about 150 of us would pick up our new Trans Am's with a police escort out of the city. It was quite a deal and a better road trip with 150 Cadets racing back to Colorado Springs. Along the way, we would run into other classmates on the open road who had just picked up new Corvette's or Z/28's and that was a spectacle. There were always cops on the highway as it was an anual ritual.

First car I drove and called mine, but not bought, 82 Z28 4 barrel. Still have it today, Dad told me that he thought I was the only would that would appreciate the car. Needs some TLC when the stock markets goes back up.
First one I bought, 97 (98 possibley) Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 5.9, Mustang Gt Beater with a/c on heated seats and sunroof open.
1969 RS/SS Black with B/W Houndstooth int., in 1994, 20 years old, there was a unrestored Survivor Z at the same classic car dealer, but i liked the RS option, so i didnt buy it.. THAT WAS A STUPID THING NOT TO DO!, i have regretted that many times,
I ended up owning a Z after just a couple of years though, still have it!
I painted the black car, Daytona Yellow and sold it within a year after i bought it.

Cool thread /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif Brings back a lot of memories...first car in 1978 - '70 Chevelle 300 Deluxe which quickly became an SS /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif We didn't call them clones or tribute cars or anything else back then - they were "fake" or "phoney" SS cars and people weren't ashamed to admit that because few teenagers knew the difference or cared for that matter. We wanted the SS look and just bought the parts from GM /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Second car was a '67 Camaro Pace Car. Too bad I didn't know that at the time - it was just a nice white and blue vert! Third was a '69 L78 Chevelle. I was in grade 13 (Canada) and remember watching the gas gauge fall as I sat in front of my girlfriend's place saying "goodnight" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif Only kept that one for a month - it's pretty tough to go parking in the Winter in Canada without the heater running /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Late 70's. First car was a hand-me-down from my parents that they bought new - 1972 Buick Skylark, 350/350 4 bbl, gold/black vinyl top, gold bucket seats with console. A LOT of High School memories in that car. Sold it to a friend and bought a 1967 Camaro my last year of HS. Been hooked on Camaros since then.

First car was a 56 4 door Chevy that had a beer can size hole in the floor board that we used to eject cans out of and listen to them bounce between the roadway and the floorboard, cool at 15 not so now. Moved to a 63 SS Impala, blew the motor in front of my folks house after getting pissed off at GF and reved her to the limit and dropped the clutch (in storage still today) and then onto a 4 door 66 Chevelle as a winter beater. Kind of liked that old 56 though lots of room inside.
I like all others here passed on cars we would die for today

--------Where I was raised out in farm country in Ohio no one much watched yung-uns too close.I was driving all over the place at 12/13 doing errands for my Dad in a 49 Jeepster flat-head 4.It was his but he gave it back to me on my 40th birthday. He got his revenge on me because he knew I would restore it,and it was nice before I got hold of it at twelve.Somewhere around 14 I bought a 38 Chevy business coupe, and began customizing it right away. That would have been 1960 for those of you counting.Cost a whopping $25.00.Its long gone but the Jeepster is out in the warehouse.........Bill S

First car was a 70 Torino with a 302 2 bbl and dual pipes with 3 ft long glass packs! Had the reputation of being one of the fastest cars on the lot, but I never raced anyone.(does not say much for the cars in the mid 80's) That gave way to my 2nd car and the transport for college, an '84 Z/28. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

Mine was a '71 Chevelle SS. I spent almost 2 years fixing it up and had it looking real nice. Cranberry Red w/black stripes.. Interior was mint.. Had it done for 3 months and my senior year in HS I flipped the car over 3 times. The only thing that survived was the Engine/tranny and SS grill emblem. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

'67 Lincoln rust bucket (circa '76). Suicide doors. Snow meats (right one fell early victim to the occasional brake torque - smoke'd pour in from rear shelf and fill the interior for Chi-Town Hustler effect).

Ok, here is what my car looked like when I learned how to drive on it. I was 14 and my brother would take me to the cemetery where he would let me practice. Eventually the Z became my daily driver during my high school years. (Side note: My friend had a 66 HiPo Mustang. He blew up the engine and then got a beautiful 69 Vette Convertible. They looked good parked in the lot together) Years later, upon my return home from school he told me he was going to sell it. I convinced him not to and offered to restore the car back to original in return for co-ownership. The best deal I ever made. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burnout.gif

First car was a brand new 70 Hugger Orange Nova. 307 with floor mounted 3 speed. The dual stripe whitewalls and rally wheels lasted about one week before being replaced by Keystone mag wheels. The OEM exhaust went about a week after that, replaced by duals with glasspacks. I had the car only 5 months - too slow. When all your friends are driving muscle cars, a 307 and 3 speed doesn't cut it. It was replaced by a 69 Dodge Dart Swinger 340 with 4 speed.

I have been swamped at work for the last couple days but I did scan the picture onto a disk although, I left the disk at work. The pictures should be up tomorrow. I will also throw in some pictures of my Dad's original Z-28 which he still owns. It is a Cortez Silver on Black int. with black stripes car. Very original car. He bought the car at the tail end of 1969. His car is a big reason why I had to have a Z. Just wait one more day! GREAT STORIES and CARS!
