It's my understanding that the correct center caps should be 1/4" deep for '69 and '70 SS wheels. Does anybody make reproductions or know of NOS availble that are the correct depth? All the ones I see are the 1/8" style. Thanks. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

I think there is a post here where someone said Ron Norman at McHenry Classics had the correct ones.

Do you have any leads as to his phone number or possible website? Thanks.

Ron's a great guy - no website but you can call the business at 815-648-1700
I just saw Ron Yesterday.
Not to get to technical, but you could get these deep caps with either a spring retainer,or a bolt on retainer.
If you have difficulty finding a set,let me know.
I still have three sets left, but not really looking to part with them.

Check the Mopar and Ford venders out on this part too. They often have the deeper center caps without the inflated GM prices...BKH

So, how do you know if your SS center caps should have the spring retainer or bolt on retainer to secure them to the wheel...would that be based on build date or factory assembly plant?

Jim,
It is based on both plant and build date. The difference is shown on box 91 of the build sheet. You should see 770, 775, or 323. Some are followed by an FJ code. 775 is deep center with bolt on backs, 770 or 323 is for deep center with clip on. Generally, most plants were changing from clip ons to bolt ons about mid March of 1970. Because of loss, many people are using the bolt on caps for their cars regardless of build date.
