I believe I have seen a number of '70 Chevelle SS cars with the "Rallye II" style wheel, a style first seen in '69. Was this a factory option for the '70 Chevelle? Are these wheels 14" x 7", or are they larger?
Thanks,
-Sam

Standard Factory wheels for the 1969 & 70 Chevelle SS was 14X7 magnum 500 rims.
Coded either YA or AO.
I would think the owners are installing the Rallye II wheels afterwards.

Thanks Rick! Are those the magnum 500 wheels on your signature pic? And are they steel wheels?
I guess I thought those were the "Rallye II" wheels..

I believe the "Rally II" style rims were started in '71, and appeared on the Chevelles, Novas, and Camaros. They were a silver painted steel rim with six slots in them. They replaced the original Rally, or "Corvette Rallys" as some people call them.

No, the rally II was a pontiac wheel. Never used by Chevrolet, except by Yenko in 68.

The ones I'm talking about are shown here, in picture #11.

It's just a name.... those are the style that I've heard people refer to as Rally II's to avoid confusion with the first Rally rim. The other ones you mentioned (the 5-spoke Pontiacs), I've heard them called "Pontiac Rallys".

Anyway..... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

I think Pontiac has dibs on the Rally I and Rally II nomenclature, as they had two wheels listed as such in their brochures. In '67 and '68 both were offered. The Pontiac Rally I is a slotted type rim with a center cap that shows the lugs. The Rally II is the 5 spoke style used from '67 until the late 80's (at least).

Around here the 2nd generation Chevy Rally wheels introduced in '71 are typically referred to as "Nova Rallys", since they were usually fitted to Novas, and Novas prior to '71 seldom had the Camaro/Corvette/Monte Carlo style Rally fitted to them by the factory. Others just call them the "ugly later Chevy Rallys with the squared off center caps", although that's just an opinion. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Allen, aren't those truck rims???
A friend of mine has the Nova rallys on his 72 SS Nova. I tease him about it all the time. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

These second generation rally wheels also came on the Heavy Chevy Chevelles in '71 and '72.

You're absolutely right about the '70 Camaro application. But since it was introduced in 70-1/2, I'm only going to admit to being 1/2-wrong. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I just call them six hole rally wheels. I don't think that they are ugly.
