I requested to see pictures of JoeG's Chevelle and he was kind enough to send me an awesome package of pics and other info pretaining to his car. I am going to post the pics for him and he will do his best to answer any questions about this awesome car. See attachment. I can enlarge any of the individual pics if requested.
Joe I will ask a few questions first.
-What was the advertised Horse power of a Phase III SS L78?
-How many other original owners that you know of are there of Baldwin Motion/Motion tuned cars?
-Did you drive this car every day in the beginning and what made you keep it all these years?

hvychev,
Thanks for posting photos- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif---I've got to get this scanning thing in gear-----
Just about to shut computer down and saw your post---
HP----Just listed as the L78 factory rating 396/375-
that was just on paper---- on dyno was over 450---- rear wheels would start to hop off the dyno wheels .,had L-60-15 MT on, the rollers on this particular machine had a hard time with these tires---------for insurance purposes the vehicle was listed as a 1969 Chevelle V8
Other Motion cars in Brooklyn------,sorry to say I never ran into another Motion car, at least they weren't saying ---I didn't advertise the fact either---I was like- TIM ALLEN & JAY LENO ---I'm running stock.
.Yes -----drove it to car hang-outs -to put together some runs, but I did drive it around--- In the begining , the 456 gears would run about 3000rpm at 50/55mph on the highway ,did that for about 1 year.-took a little getting use to and if I remember correctly gas was 35 cents gal Sunoco 102octane?----JoeG

The yellow things on the hi-beams---Lucas flamethrower headlight.---It may look like I was trying to turn the car into an off rode vehicle with those in the woods photos, but that was my uncles property in ROSCOE, NY---like to fly-fish so ---on one of my night trips to his property ,I came very close to having a doe@fawn as part of my grill----hell you would thing the noise of the car would scare them away,---the Lucas lights lite up the dark country back roads like it was daytime------they are no longer on.
Color---not a traditional chev color----burnished brown---the color looked black in overcast shade----it could look golden in bright sunlight----JoeG
Back then---if it couldn't be waxed --I didn't take a picture----
The engine was set-up as a PhaseIII---minus the 427---there was a picture of blue PhaseIII Camaro in a mag-MCR?- with Joel Rosen's picture in the upper corner---that is what the PhaseIII engine package looked like.
1969-PhaseIII L78
396/375
456/rear

mags
prowler rear tires
sw/sun--amp,water,oil gauges-I added vac gauge
hood tach---only electic tach that worked with the CD IGN.--didn't want a gear driven tach.--they tried to steal the hood tach when the car was parked----sun then came out with sun 802 --worked with CD ign.---still have the tach--pontiac tach with chevrolet name over it.
PhaseIII -mirrors actually 1969CJ Mustang mirrors
Grant wood steering wheel
car was power tuned on dyno

JoeC,
That modern side-view and hood view are the ones that were sudmitted to Ertl.
zgator,
That rake or slight rake look ----was on a lot of the Motion cars--I was always partial to a slight rake especially on the early camaro's.----JoeG--
Denis,
Thanks for cleaning that picture up --it's like looking thru a clean pair of glasses---I made myself a copy-- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif---

Joe I have a couple more questions as well.
When you decided that you wanted a Motion car did you choose this unique color combo or did you just take whatever SS L78 396 that Baldwin Chevy had on the lot.
Do you remember Baldwin Chevy's layout? What other Hi-Po cars did they have on the ground. Did they have a Motion prepared car in the showroom on display?
Did you ever keep the paperwork on your ride?
JoeC,
Not at all---gives me an excuse to go thru some old car-stuff.
I still have the Baldwin Auto Co.--car invoice---7/14/69.
P/P---5--May
Build-sheet---05-22
Car had to be ordered thru Baldwin Auto--because there was a trade-in involved.
Car was at Motion being given the once over--I had to sign out the car at Baldwin Auto[ few blocks away]
Now---My car had the factory-chrome v/c's from motion--in the 1969 motion car/sales brochure--ther are 3 photos------standard 427 engine--chr. v/c-----PhaseIII 427 engine--chr v/c----L88 competition 427-M/T-finned alum. v/c.
Eventually --I put on the Motion finned alum. v/c with Motion emblem.------Joe
Frank,
Unique color combo----not a traditional chev color--nevertheless-I was already on the outs with my future other half for buying the car --so it was give and take--she didn't want stripes, no loud colors,no black-- she did like red with a black vinyl top---but there were a lot of red/black combos in brooklyn---I happened to see a 69 Chevelle convertable white top, burnished brown/parchment int--and it just caught my eye----so I said lets get a convertable---and she then proceeded to explain to me how gangs of roving thugs were going to hunt down our car and slash the convertable top into threads,-----scratch one convertable,-------- I just happen to like the white/ burnished brown combo----I asked the dealer if I could special-order a white vinyl top --he said yes--and my headache went away
I'd be blowing smoke if I told I remembered the inside of Baldwin Auto in detail-----Looked like any other car dealership that I had been in.----If there were any Motion cars on display at the time I was there--I would have remembered that---but they could have displayed a Motion car---then again Motion was only blocks away.---Joe--
