Well, I made the plunge .....

I bought a '68 Butternut Yellow L72 427/425 Biscayne !! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burnout.gif

I couldn't be happier ! The car isn't a 100% correct concours resto -- nor is it an unmolested survivor ..... but ..... It is an original 18k mile, L72 car. About 60% original paint. Bought originally to race - hence the *DP* coded 12-bolt (4.88) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif I've got a little bit of underhood detail work to do. I need to swap out the rallye wheels for the steel wheels and buttons, but it is one heckuva clean car. Originally from Sioux Falls - - then to Minnesota in the early '80's - - now to Michigan. What is really unique is the exterior trim package that added brightwork to the door and window frame(s). Kinda neat look to it. Next week when I get a pic of the car with the steel wheels, buttons, and redlines, I'll post an updated pic.

Yeeeeeeeeeeee ha !!

Case, mine had the red foil 427 call out's too.. pretty rare, most were black.
Email me a copy of the window sticker will ya /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif
F41 and Z24 cars and Police package combo's got the wheels you have now, I'm 99.9% purty sure. Mine came with 15x7, not the 15x6 as usual. Look at the copies of the original pic's I sent ya of mine. Did you get or find the build sheet yet? Mine had 1 well hidden, and another one easily found.
I've still got some '68 parts stashed, but it's gonna cost ya /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I'm jealous.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif

Really nice cars. Casey, I feel very uninformed about these cars. What years and models did they put the L72 in them? I have seen a few big cars but they usually have 335hp 427. Also, there is a Med blue white top 69 SS Impala in my neighborhood, less motor trans on blocks in my area. I guesss I should go for a closer look huh? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

L78Impala,
Friend of mine had a '65 --I think they were probably the sportiest looking of the impala line.---You two guys had yourself a regular Chevy Impala convention. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif----Nice/Clean '65----------JoeG

Rick, you make a good point.
After I got home, I saw the news and they were showing areas of Chicago that got golf ball size hail.

Luckily, we only got rain. ( see attached )

Nice Score! I noticed the MN plates right away, where did you find it? Was there anything on the racing history you were able to dig up?

HOLY CRAP !!!

I owe Rob Clary - - BIG TIME !!

I asked him to post on the SuperStock Forum, to see if we could track down the original owner of the car.....

I just got off the phone with the original owner, outta Sioux Falls, SD !! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif

I was IMMEDIATELY asked if the car was For Sale ! He told me all kind of neat original history on the car. Including the stint in 1970 where it had a ZL-1 between the fenders, running 10.95/11.0's !! In it's original L72 forum, it was a consistent 12-teen car. It was campaigned as **Ennis's Menace** . He ordered it originally with 7.50 x 14 blackwalls with FULL wheelcovers. He specifically didn't order it with optional rims/tires, 'cause he planned on putting Cragers on it. The smog gear that I got with the car was taken off THE day he picked up the car. It definitely looks like it - it's mint ! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif He says that he didn't take ANY pictures of the car originally, because it was "just a race car" back then. But he does think that a buddy of his has a picture "somewhere". Hopefully, he can track it down. He had to get off the phone, but said that he'd give me a call back to talk more about the car. Whatta day !! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

SWEET! I see a grudge match in the not-so-distant future...

Grandpa's car vs. Grandma's car!!
or
Casey's 427/425hp Biscayne vs. Brian's 427/425hp Marauder!!

As for repayment, just remember not to embarrass a certain yellow Camaro.../ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

musclebarge photo 68 Belair 427. I thought this is a cool photo. It has the "COPO sleeper" look with no SS emblems or stripes. You could have bought these with 425hp M22 and 4:88 gears for about $3000.00 Spend the week putting in headers, Hurst shifter, slicks, and a good tune up and on Sunday go to the track and run in the 12s. not a bad deal

Casey Marks
07-16-2003, 11:26 PM
Well, I've been thrashing to get the 'Scayne ready to return to the track. The *aluminum* Schieffer flywheel was SEVERELY cracked. The clutch, pressure plate, and throwout bearing were right in line with the flywheel .... JUNK ! All that is replaced, and ready for me to make my inagural pass down the track tomorrow at one of the FAST races at Norwalk. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif I'll be in the Factory Stock class. My goal is to get a baseline on the car so that I have something to work from. I've got it pulling strong to 6500 right now - - so it should be fun. Now I just havta get my manual trans driving skills in check .... that will be interesting ....... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burnout.gif

How about this....three 425hp. big cars at the same show. At a small show in northern Illinois ( about 50 cars )there was a 65 L78 Biscayne, a 65 L78 Impala and a 66 L72 Bel Air.
I can't say that I've seen that before. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

N Illinois is my old stomping grounds and the building in the back along with that purple Mopar in the pic look pretty familar. I was just wondering if it might be either Freeport or Rockford

Jeff, not too far from Rockford. The show was at Gary Lang in McHenry. It was a small show due to the possibility of rain. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif
