Nice car! I have owned two of these and still have one. With only 600 built, they are very rare. In my opinion they are still undervalued. Supposedly there was one built with a turbo 400 and the owner has a build sheet. We are still waiting for Charley to come through and post a copy of it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I guess there are now 2 in the Seattle area as Chuck Sharin purchased a non-RS L-78 fairly recently.

Does your car have the elusive dual snorkle aircleaner?

nice very nice will be looking foward to seeing it next month at The All Chevy Show there. Bout time you got it, when you were telling me about it last month you sounded like the kid in the candy store that just hit the jackpot

Thanks, JoeG - Chevy LUV, indeed!

Mosport, here is a side view, more pics to come after I receive the car.

COPO, I am fortunate to have the dual snorkel air cleaner, with the long snorkels. The car is a Norwood-built car, with console, gauges, Power steering and power brakes. Engine and trans are original. I notice by your profile that yours is an RS car also - is it a Norwood car and what color combo?

Jeff, thanks, I am very excited, and Sue will have to learn to drive a stick first! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

PS We have an L&L Barbecue opened about two miles from my house /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Mine is also a blue/black Norwood car with original drivetrain and a number of options. It is a very early car one of the first 5,000 camaros off the line and likely one of the very first L-78's built in 70. Unfortunately I don't have the elusive dual snorkle air cleaner. I may have one made as I hear they are going for $2,000. They are great sleeper cars without the flash of the Z-28 stripes. Looks like you have a nice one.

That is a nice Camaro.
There was a Dual Snorkle that just sold on Ebay this month for 535.00.Item#2421552958.I know the buyer.I'll bet he was more surprised then anyone what he had to give for it...

That is a SCORE..congrats Sam! One of my personal favorites. Quick question: I've seen 2 70 L-78's w/ those SS wheels on them now, were those a factory option on the Camaro also?

Congrats,

The questions seem to be flowing. Is the trim on the side of the red Camaro another "trim" option? Adds a nice touch.

I don't believe Chevrolet intended for the 1970 Camaro SS to originally come with 14X7 SS Magnum 500 rims on it.They could always be added later.

COPO
07-27-2003, 08:53 PM
The 70 SS Camaro did not get the SS wheels, but they sure look good. $500 is a good number for the aircleaner. I have heard of a couple sales in the $1,500-$2,000 range. I think you could build one fairly easy from a single snorkle aircleaner.

What is the difference between a L-78 and a L-34 70 camaro. Also could a L-34 camaro have factory air. What is the production figure on the L-34 70 camaros? And late what would a nice driver L-34 be worth these days? Thanks

MosportGreen66
07-28-2003, 02:34 AM
The L-78 was a 396 with 375 horse. I do not remember off hand what the L-34 was though.

DSYenko
07-28-2003, 03:26 AM
Was it a 396??

Seattle Sam
07-28-2003, 03:44 AM
Duane,
THe L78 and L34 were both called 396 cubic inches, actually they were 402's due to a casting change.
The L78 solid-lifter motor was not available with air conditioning, but the L34 hydraulic lifter motor did come with air. Chevrolet rated the L78 at 375 HP in 1970, and the L34 at 350 HP. There were 600 L78 Camaros built, not sure how many L34 cars. There were also L78 and L34 Novas and Chevelles built in 1970.

Couldn't tell you the value of an L34 car, or an L78 for that matter, as they don't seem to change hands very often!

Sam Thanks for the info.I found a 70 RS Camaro L34 car needing quarters/fenders and a drivetrain. Frame and floors are good, car has a/c and complete interior.Asking $2500.Is the guy anywhere close? I am interested but dont want to get stung and have way more in it than I could have bought a good one for,any advice?
Is there a code on the tag or how can a guy be sure it was a L34 with the engine gone? Thanks guys

What is LS3 on cowl tag? Is that the L78? Roger

Seattle Sam
07-28-2003, 08:02 PM
Duane,
Norwood cars had either L78 or L34 stamped on the cowl tag in 1970. I don't know how you can tell a Van Nuys '70 big block without documentation.

Roger,
LS3 is the engine code for the big block in 1971 (300 hp gross,260 net) and 1972 (240 hp net).

Expertise has something to do with experience, wouldn't you say, and it seems you have a bit of '70 L78 Camaro experience. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burnout.gif

and it ROCKS!

I have already put about 30 miles on it, with a quick trip to the trans shop to adjust the clutch and linkage, it is a BEAUTIFUL car..

Excellent paint, and clean original interior, complete under the hood, and it looks great with the Firestone Wide O Ovals on it!

Thanks for the help getting this deal done, Stefano!

(He can tell you, it only took four months from the first email to delivery...)

Stefano has also made me into a Happy Camaro owner as he supplied the lead to my 1970 Camaro. He is so knowledgeable that I find myself e-mailing him one or twice a week. He really must do wonders with those 2nd Gen. Camaros! Right Sam! Could we get some engine shots of your new ride?
