Best glass info source is Rich's article: http://www.camaros.org/glass.shtml.

musclecarkid;
Try here for the Normative Practices in First-Generation Camaro Window Glass (http://www.camaros.org/glass.shtml) from camaros.org as a start. Not much on PPG codes, but explains everything else.
AS-2 = "The stronger, 1/4-inch thick, AS-2 tempered glass was normally used in Camaro doors"
27-30 = What you need to know /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif
DOT 18 = Manufacturer code PPG number is "DOT 18"
M78 = "model numbers to each type of auto glass, and each type received a different model number mark as required by ANSI Z26" M78 is proabably side door or quarter.

Ok, I read a ton on auto glass on CRG, but didn't see how to date code PPG Glass. So 27-30 is the date code? What does this mean? Maybe 27 = day, 3 = March, 0 = 1970.???? Anybody know if this is correct?

Off the top, doesn't the -30 indicate the plant code it was made at?

I don't know what 27 30 means. I hope someone can figure this out.
musclecarKid,
I pulled out two original side pieces of PPG glass that came off my '69 chevelle to check the code.The rt frt.PPG glass reads flow lite [27-29],the smaller rt.r.PPG reads flow lite[26-49]
Now I'd say it's a rating of the glass--at first I thought it was a light transmission rating, but then I found some info on [noise reduction ratings ]and [sound transmission class] on safety tempered glass ,and it's rated by thickness of glass, manufacturing process etc.---the rating system is similar[ 27-30 ]--[26-47]---[25-29] and so on.---Just some more info to kick around----JoeG
Aren't they still around??
They should have records on file.
Is it possible to stil contact PPG today and ask them what they mean?
Mr70,
Good idea----Oh yeah---copo9566aa/Roger said ,the Canadian Maple Leaf he painted on the side of your Chevelle is not permanent.
I Called PPG Rick, cust. service said first 2#'s = plant, second 2#'s= day/ month ------but they were thinking of changing over to noise transmission ratings : /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif------- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Joe G,Are you saying 27-30 is: 27 = Plant Code and 30 = March 70? Or 3 = day and 0 = ? I'm lost!!Kevin

I don't think that is correct:
My glass (04L Pace car) are coded as follows:
Drivers door: 26-29
Drivers Quarter: 27-29
Passenger Door: 16-29
Passenger Quarter: 27-29
My passenger door has no DOT codes on it which would indicate it was made before 1/1/69 since glass had to carry a DOT code after that date.
A wild guess would be that the first 2 numbers are a week code based on the production year. The first week of August would be 1, January 1, 1969 would be 23. The second one could be the assembly plant if there are 29 of them, or it could be plant no. 2 in year engine in a 9.

The common factor here seems to be the last digit.Joe G has a 69 Chevelle, his PPG Glass codes end in 9. Mark C has a 69 Camaro, his codes end in 9 also. I have a late 70 Chevelle conv. my PPG Glass codes end in 0. Doesn't it make sense that the last digit could be the year it was made?.........Kevin

The first two numbers are the PLANT CODE...last two numbers are the date code...ie., 26-95 Plant code is 26 and 9 = Sept. and 5 = 1965.
ALL PPG glass plant codes are not known at this time...atleast by me anyway.
SORRY GUYS---WROTE down day/month---should have been month/year according to PPG cust service--copied down the wrong message---haven't check this site in a while /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
27-29--FIRST SET 27 =plant # SECOND SET 29 = month/year This is what cust service said ---you can call them and maybe get a better answer.--I am now in the process of grinding off all the date codes on my windows /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif----------- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

musclecarkid;
I am just back from the Nova Nationals where I saw a one owner 71 Nova with 2 original PPG vent glasses and the rest LOF. I came to the same conclusion. Most of the LOF glass dated July 70 so 26-60 decoding as June 70 would work. I had though that 26 would have been day of the month, but based on above it looks like plant code.
