Member *Star* Question

Not that it bothers me to a major extent, but I noticed that I have been de-ranked or de-star-ed. After coming back from a nice family weekend, it seems 2 of my stars have been shot down. I went from a 4 star to a 2 star ranking. Any help would be great.

I wonder if it has something to do with your handle. Mossport Green is one of my favorite Vette colors, but most people don't appreciate it. I wish we would delete the Star rating system,and the names like "Old Hand".
It makes more controversy then a Jack Douglass COPO/*/Yenko.
Just show the Date registered,and the number of Posts next to the name.

I'll second that idea, Rick. I just wish I could (easily). I am currently looking at hacking the board to eliminate them, but I've got to weigh the pros/cons of hacking a functioning (and licensed!) board. But, I'm looking into it...

I'll second that idea, especially due to the hassle I received over just asking a question about why some are/are not listed the same with the same number of posts.
Anyone who joins should be a "Member", nothing more - nothing less. The number of posts is enough to let others know how long you're been around.
And the stars should go away. It's a status ranking system that can cause ill feelings.

Hi Frank,
Perhaps I did become a little overly sensitive to the replies I received when I first asked my question about the titles. The replies inferred that I "needed" a better title. That is not the case. I was merely confused when I saw someone with 1 post titled "member" and another with 1 post titled as "stranger". The titles are obviously constructed in such a way as to encourage members to post more often. But I assure you, the titles aren't important to me; nor are the stars. My self esteem is fine.
And it seems that I am not the only one who thinks it's a good idea to see the stars go away. But I'm new here, so perhaps it would be a better idea for me to keep my ideas to myself, and just focus on trying to help people when I can.
I don't need any trophies. My cars are my "trophies".

Wow, since this topic just got hot, I just got demoted myself and thought I'd bring it up. I was at 4 stars prior to the new format of the forum...and got back up to 2 stars ...and now back down to 1. Am I posting BS?...no. Am I posting something that a member may disagree with..possible but not likely. I used to hold my 4 stars here as a matter of pride and contribution but now realize that they're somewhat superflous. I don't know where I went wrong.

Talked to the star company, they are going to change the rating to phases of the moon--you know-- new moon--1/4---1/2--full--etc. A black spot will be for new members and you will go thru the phases web page (http://www.aliasoft.com/phases/) ,until you reach Full moon at this time your title will become "The Big Cheese"--- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif--- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Just put it to a vote to eliminate the STARS!It apparently upsets some members and is confusing when all of a sudden you loose a star or two.Sort of makes you feel like you offended the Boss or something and was demoted!Why is there a need to rank anyone anyways!!The board is for getting information,giving information,helping someone out and getting some help when needed and having some fun and especially reading some of the FUNNY post from you guys,especially Charlie and his DOGS!My vote is to do away with the STARS!! Bobby would you go to the owner of a company that you work at and ask him to eliminate all the bosses/managers because you think that it makes the employes feel inferior? When I first started to visit this site over a year and a half ago (initally like most just to read without registering) I looked at the Forum Leaders, Elite Members, and then Moderators (A position that has since been defunct) as the knowledgeable people that I would go to with a question. I am pretty confident that Rob just did'nt asign those titles because they looked good next to their name but because they obviously earned them by being knowledgeable in their area or making positive contributions to the forum and helping people out. The stars on the other hand have become bastardized by threads like this where there have been people bitching about their star ratings and someone awards charity stars to the bitcher as a joke. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif Earn your stars by making a positive contribution untill then lets turn the page.

Damn I did not mean to have anyone get their drawers in a wad over my post or offend anyone!I have read on a past thread before about some people bitching about their rating and I just sorta got tired of listening to it all, although some of the post were funny.I can tell that some post are jokes but that some are not,and there are some people that actually seem offended about not having as many stars as others or the "NAME" associated with the # of post they have made.I think you guys can tell that also.I was meerely stating my opinion and if my opinion pissed anyone off then I apologize and will not make anymore opinions known again on the site.I also think that after visiting the site for a short time a person knows who has the knowledge to help out and does not need a star rating to figure that out.Very Sorry if I offended anyone certainly did not mean to do that.And to your question hvy chevy I certainly would not ask an Owner of a company to dismiss all management people,I do not think my post is in the same catagory as something like that or at least I don't see it in that way.But hell I am wrong most of the time anyway!

The stars system does not work well on a low volume site like this. The sample size is too small so one low rate will cut rating in half or if you only have one rate and it is a 5 then you have 5 stars. If you place the curser on the persons stars it will show how many rates they have. Most people don't use the rate system so there are only a few people who are controlling the stars.
