Sorry if this has been asked before (I searched but didn't find anything definitive). I made plans to purchase a mint 1968 decklid for my '69 RS/SS. Are there differences in the '68-'69 lids that I should be aware of? Going back to the original non-spoiler decklid (previous owner must have drilled three different sets of holes trying to get the OER spoiler to line up...UGH).

The '68 and early '69 trunk lids are the same. Mid-year they had some extra holes on the underneath support structure which coincided with the mounting location for the Firebird Trans-Am pedestal rear spoiler. From about March '69 onward, the underside of the trunk lids is similar to the mid-year but the tabs where the trunk lid skin wraps around the back lip are different from the earlier style. The service replacement lid has a small round hole in the bottom/middle of the underneath support structure. No idea why. The trunk lids are dated so you may want to find one that matches up to the general timeframe of when your car was built. Example: T27 would indicate a trunk lid stamped during the 27th week of the calendar year. Hope that helps.

Jon, that's a huge help, thank you! Where is the date code stamped?

With the trunk lid popped open, it would be in the middle along the bottom. Sometimes it can be to the right of where the jacking instruction sticker usually goes, along the raised part of the understructure. Happy hunting.
