I heard from a credible source that the 68 Z convert just sold for $900,000.00. Anyone else?

Jim,
I talked to the owner yesterday and he didnt mention the sale of it, doesnt mean it didnt happen though as that is the right price bracket, last time I had asked a month or so back he had said 1 Mil would buy it. He had turned down 750K earlier this year. If it did sell this sets a record amount for a Camaro, does it not guys?

new to this car. Why such a high price tag? I would expect it being orginal, low miles and all, but there has got to be more to it than meets the eye.

Jimbo, guys, the owner of this Camaro is still the owner as it has not been sold. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif It is an amazing thing how rumours about these cars can drop from the clouds. I was a bit confused about hearing of the sale of this Z, the owner had promised first right of refusal as I had a client interested in the car earlier this year, at this time the owner is not considering the sale of the car. The rumoured price however would be an accurate figure according to the owner's present line of thought. So where does that leave the record price for a Camaro, one of the ZL-1's? If so, how much is the record for a Camaro sale?
Thanks,

Great piece of Camaro history but how many more years is it going to take before they paint the grille correctly on that car?

------I guess Im confused here Jon.Can you tell us all about the day Pete Estes picked up the car? What was the weather like? What color was the grill that day?
------Every thing on this great car was done specially for a very special man.Just what makes you think the grill was any color other than what it is today.Im not sure how the car was delivered, but I dont think I would bash the car about something that I wasnt sure about. But,thats just me.You probably are much more in the loop than the rest of us.
Oh,the owner is a friend.........Bill S

Man, you have no idea how I would love to ride in that car with the top down and the 302 winding out.

Grille is correct as when new. It also is the only 68 that came with a crossram hood (Fiberglas) from the assembly plant.

OK guys,

Here's photographic evidence from 1968 that the grille was painted different than how it is now. It should be black around the outside part of the plastic and the center grille bars are silver.

Is it really black or do the shadows and photo quality only appear to make it look black? I'm in no position one way or the other to say which is correct so I ask from an objective point of view. It seems in the color shots there is an excessive amount of bright sunlight on the grill and in the black and white it was an overcast day and the main light source seems to be more from behind and to the right of the car. We all know things look different in pictures than they do in person.

Being objective, I wouldn't rely on the one B&W photo in a court case!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

Bill,

The picture is from GM photographic. Since it is a 1-of-1 car and this is a Z28 convertible, I'm assuming it has to be the same car. I have attached another picture showing a better angle on the grille paint and also showing under the hood. I apologize for the tone of my original post. It was inappropriate. I love the car. Just thought the car would look that much more perfect with the detail on the grille restored.

Great pics....what type of hood prop is on that engine shot ?

MotownMadman
08-31-2003, 07:23 PM
BelAir,
looks like a retractable two piece rod that extends out to fit into a clip on the fender support brace, then retracts back to fit into the clip on the inner fender edge near the hinge when closed. Jon, great pic's, looks like the grille needs some paint work to be as original.

That crossram air cleaner lid looks odd too with an indentation in the center for a 3rd stud or something. This car had the rear disc brakes I thought and it looks like you can see a proportioning valve in that engine picture. What a great historical picture.

Mo..it actually looks like a Corvette style hood prop for some reason

Looks like the prop rod on my dad's '61 Corvette....

Speaking of old photos...I wish I had taken more copies of the negatives in the Petersen archives when I worked there...talk about muscle car Gold...all the photos EVER taken of ANY story in ANY of the Petersen mags (Car Craft, Hot Rod, Super Stock, etc) are stored away in the basement of the Petersen building in LA. If there were 10 photos published in a story, 50-100 photos were often shot in total...and they're all sitting down there. I wonder if Petersen ever considered how much money is potentially there if they sold prints of those pics. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/scholar.gif
