View Full Version : Super Car Reunion 7

Back by popular demand, and a little arm twisting /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif the Yenko Sportscar Club will be hosting SCR7. Will be held the weekend of September 4, 2004 (Labor Day) at the Gateway Center in Collinsville, IL. Additional space has been reserved because of the popularity of who the featured dealer will be, YENKO Chevrolet.

As with past events, there will be some very special guests, one of a kind memorabilia displays and of course, 40-50 (maybe more in '04 ?) documented Chevrolet supercars.

And, as in '03, we will once again welcome "Friends of the Reunion". Without them, SCR6 not have been the success it was. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Tom,

Will there be an opportunity to rent the Gateway track again? I think everyone who participated either as a driver of spectator enjoyed this part of the weekend. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

I have contacted Gateway Int. about that. The person in charge was out, but is to get with me next week. If available that weekend, then it will get down to how bad we want to race, as track rental, insurance and the jet dryer ran close to $5000.00. At SCR6, the majority of these added costs were covered by a very special "Friend of the Reunion", who we all owe a big round of thanks to. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Like you, I think anyone who was there had a good time. I am still amazed, and grateful, that 15+ supercars braved the elements to make a couple of passes. Makes me wonder how many would have participated if the weather had been better. Hopefully in 2004 we can get the track again and Mother Nature will be more cooperative. Would be unreal if we could get a even bigger percentage of the cars attending SCR to make a pass or two. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

I'm in, with my car. Will probably have to borrow a truck and trailer - but will be there, and will race.

Check that; I'll be there even if I have to use my Dad's truck and my open trailer, and I'm racing whether the track is rented or grudge night!

Ok, off topic, but unfortunately necessary...

Did anyone else see a couple of posts between my post and joe's? Like maybe one of clint69's and another? It looks like maybe the board ate a couple and I'm trying to track it down to when/why...

Already shaping up to be an impressive list. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif I will do my best to secure some track time. May be on Sunday am, but we did that two years ago and had a blast. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

Whoever this might have been, thanks a lot! I for one had a blast at the drags. Hope it can be done for next years. Tom count me in for a donation for track time. It's a must. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

Yes I did post. I deleted it because I am unsure of wether the COPO will have a 427 or 454 and I stated that it would have a 427. Never the less, the car will be done and ready to display and race. It goes into the shop in just a couple of weeks for the Vitar paint scheme and a new mill. Should look very cool and I can't wait to get it done. Car should run high 9s or very low 10s.

While we're on the subject of the racing portion of the Reunion, I'd like everyone's thoughts on either/both of these options:

* The first option is to do the racing like SCR6, and rent the track for all day Friday. This allows for LOTS of track time (6+ hours), but costs more.

* The second option would be similar to SCR5, with us going to the track Sunday morning for a few hours (maybe 2-3 hours). This is the least expensive option, but limits track time.

We are hoping to go to Gateway Intl. regardless of which option we go with.

SCR6 was My first reunion, and a blast. Are you going to have a guest speaker at the SCR7 dinner,or was that just a special deal with Joel Rosen & Crew?
If not,who are you considering to speak at SCR7?

I was also at Wentzville at SR5, that was more relaxed, after the big show. I vote for Sunday morning, seeing we will be on holy ground. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

10-12-2003, 02:39 AM
As we have done every year, there will be special guests. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif I have a list of about 8 folks I am working with for SCR7, and most have never been to a SCR. One who has, and is scheduled to attend in '04 is Donna Mae Mims, the former Manager of Hi-Performance Sales
for Yenko Chevrolet, Canonsburg. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

By the way Brandon, I was hoping the Latrobe gang could bring Ed H. along this year. I think it would be neat to put him in a Yellow Yenko Camaro (similar to the one he drove for Yenko Chevrolet back in '69) along side Herb in Lil Hoss. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burnout.gif

We can work on Ed Hedrick... hes a super cool guy, and I think he'd be not only willing, but eager to attend. He talked my ear off for hours at the York US30 Reunion this summer about his times with Grumpy Jenkins, and racing his Yenko... he's truly got a photographic memory of the "good ol days." A true Yenko racing legend, and an all around great guy. Heck, I MAY even introduce you to him LVCamaro...IF you behave yourself! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

I'd vote for racing like SCR6 on Friday prior to the show. That allowed a great bench racing session Friday night in the parking lot about the days activities.(like Shor's launch) I think if it was on Sunday, fewer people would attend and then many would leave for home directly from the track. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

10-13-2003, 04:23 AM
I'll do my best to pinch Herb's elbow and see if he'll come along. Friday would probably be the best day, as indeed, the participation will be higher. I'll just need to check the post-race schedule to make sure I don't miss anything next year, like the pre-show set-up! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Friday was good this year. Too much pressure on the weather and people's travel schedules on Sunday morning only. Also doing the conference center load in on Saturday makes it less painful for people to get up in the morning after a tough night in the parking lot. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif I think it makes for a more relaxed weekend overall. Better for me too because Monday ain't a holiday over here...

Survived the broken air conditioning at the hotel, White Castle Burgers, hooch, rain, humidity. I think we have a good chance of making it to SCR7! Would love to run Marlin heads up (my mph was 4 better than his /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif) Jim

Jim:

I understand where you're coming from on the White Castle & hooch thing...that's a deadly combo, and is almost as lethal as Krystal's & barley pops (you southerners will get that one!). But the humidity thing has me stumped...is it humid around here? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Marlin, you'd better get to tuning that Deuce of yours, as you're a wanted man! Rumor has it there's another Deuce (besides Hughes') that's gunning for bragging rights!

Spoke with the officials at Gateway International Raceway today. The drag strip is available on Friday, during the day, same as at SCR6, with the cost about the same, $4500.00 which includes the extra insurance they require.

Now it is up to us, to decide how bad we want to race and, have the track to ourselves. The Clarys are game and will do our part, just need a little help. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

10-17-2003, 10:02 PM
Anyone who would like contribute to SCR7 may send it to the Yenko Sportscar Club, C/O Tom Clary POB 375 Alton, MO 65606. As we did with SCR6, all monies will be deposited in a seperate account, to be used for reunion purposes only. That includes track rental and insurance, expenses of special guests, rent on facility, etc. Trust me, there is always something poping up that requires some sort of fee and/or deposit.

In advance, thanks to everyone who believes in the sYc and SCR enough to put their $$ where their mouths are and help out. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif
