Correct part numbers for restoration

I am collecting parts for a 69 L78 Chevelle restoration. I need rear shocks for the F41 suspension. The AIM lists a different part number than the P&A does for these shocks. I found a set of NOS ones that have a part number for a 69 passenger car. If a car was judged for something along the lines of a Diamond, would the part number be acceptable as correct? Is there somewhere the information for judging a car is available? Thanks for your time....Tony

1969-70 F41 NOS shocks,are one of the hardest parts to find,if not impossible today.
Are the dates good for your car?
They look at Part numbers,& Dates.
I think if the dates match your car,I would use them.
Part numbers were massive for these,so sometimes they understand that.
I have never been Diamond certified,but hear they look at dates first
If they are NOS,and fit,I would use them.

Thanks Rick. The date on the NOS ones are about 3 months earlier than the build date of the car. I will see if I can get them. I appreciate the response...Tony

Contact Jeff Dottiere, he can tell you. He is the one who would judge the car for Diamond Certification /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif I don't have his number handy, but check any issue of HMN and he is listed under DATED COMPONENTS., his business here in PA.

I will also note, that most of us doing the purist thing, do it for our own knowledge...that things are CORRECT. But with the NCOA being a non entity now...not sure who you would be doing this for in terms of judging..with the exception of Jeff certifying a car, who would look at a part number and date on a shock? On a 69 Chevelle..

For what it's worth, some do care Mike! We set our own goals and seem to do it for different reasons but the hobby isn't suffering any ill effects from it. Mike and Dennis....Thanks for the response. I am doing it for me. I had lots of cars as a kid, but nothing to be proud of. Bought quite a few, fixed them up and sold them. Moved on to the next one. Its not always about certification or judging, and its nice to see someone doing it for themselves...Just because no one will "bust you" on wrong or missing parts on your car shouldn't be a reason to deter you from attempting to make your car as correct as possible, regardless if its a smog setup, valve cover bolts, shock absorbers, etc.... Good luck on your project Tony, and if there aren't a ton of people who know what they are looking at at this particular time, there surely will be in the future, and the "people in the know" will appriciate and commend you on your efforts.... not to mention the fact you will know yourself that is was done right! Personally, I think that a 69 L78 Chevelle is WELL worth all the effort you put toward it to do it right. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif
