Hey Rob
A few minutes ago, I noticed there were 28 registered users and 40 anonymous "lurkers" on this web page. Does that sorta traffic s-l-o-w the board down? I know my puter is struggling tonight to move from page-to-page on this site. At least the board is getting lots of looks...

Nah, shouldn't be noticable. We had 80+ at one point a couple weeks ago, and it was FLYING. I'm guessing that with the nasty weather people are staying in and there is a significant load on the net as a whole.

I think Holiday shopping is slowing down the net also

The site still seems a lot slower in the evening compared to early in the day. But other sites are normal speed in the evening so it may be the hosting service itself that is getting bogged down.

We appear to have some server issues. Our "apaches" have had to be rebooted several times in the last few weeks, and something in the software is hanging them up. Several calls in to tech support have yielded a bunch of "Uhh...Umm...Well...Hmmm...that's wierd".

Thanks for your patience!

We are in the process of moving you to a new server. So the site is "running" on the new server. The problem is it takes the DNS information of what server yenko.net belongs to some time to update all around the world. So some of you may be hitting the new server and things are fast and no problems. And some of you will be hitting the old server, which is currently having some problems. It's being looked at, but that's why the site is moving off of it.

Hang in there as the DNS updates for everyone. Once everyone is hitting the new server (with 4x the processing power) you will definately notice a speed & reliability improvement. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

boy that is good news. I was totally unable to log on or even find it this morning. I could get to the main page but that was all.

Just a suggestion but how about coming on here and letting one of the moderators aware a day in advance so we can know what to expect. I under stand that sometimes you just have to change because one is kaput.

I am sure I speak for all of us on here that rely on it when I say Thanks for staying on top of it.

Actually, I did learn of the upcoming "switch" a day or so ago, but neglected to post something. Hopefully it should be smooth sailing from here on out, but I'll try and post something if we go down this road again in the future.

Yeah, if I had thought there would have been any outage so normally switching servers would have been pretty transparent on your end. But unfortunately the old server developed some nasty hardware issues this morning unexpectedly (sure, it couldn't have waited one more day). Just kind of a random failure with a network card. So it actually needed to be rebooted a couple of times and taken down for repair by a technician. So the actual outages and such were kind of a fluke.

But I guess it was good we were on our way off of that server... and probably about 1/2 of you had already updated and were seeing the new server. But I agree it was pretty nasty for those still seeing the old server. But by now You should notice the new one being more speedy - as it's 4x faster. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif I've had several clients use the word "Varroooom" today once they experienced the new server. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

For those that don't know, Josh is the guy that literally holds the keys to our little hangout here, and could yank the rug out from under us at any time! He hosts our site/board, as well as having a lot of time invested in setting the site up and answering all of my menial questions! So stay on his good side! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks for all the hard work, Josh! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif

I see the # of unread topice and posts (on the main index screen) has disappeared. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif Anyway to get that feature back? I'm surprised at how much I used that.......

Thanks!

I am with you on that. I thought something was wrong with my computer. with out that I have to look into each forum to see if there are any new posts.

Chevy454
03-11-2004, 06:54 PM
I did away with the number indicating amount of new posts, but you can still tell which forum contains new posts by looking at the light bulbs beside the forums. If the light is on, new posts...if not, then you're caught up. That is the exact way our forum software has worked for the past 5 years, as I added the new post count with our latest software version (about 3 months ago).

Just trying to squeak some more speed out of this thing...

Yeah, I'm surprised how much I relied on seeing the new post count to determine if I was going into a specific forum. Seems to be running pretty good now.
