If I remember correctly, there were 2 prototype mustangs built by Larry Shinoda in 70 for evaluation by Ford. They had what looked to be shelby body parts on them, one had a Boss 429 engine and the other a more conventional engine. My memory is a bit fuzzy on this and I don't remember the source of this info but I think that was the deal.

I also recall seeing a Mustang based showcar, at the 1969 or 1970 New York auto show. I believe it was called the Milano or something like that. It also had a Shelby hood and a shelby-ish grille but had a much more severe fastback. I think it was a purple color and had these mesh style rims on it. It was a really cool looking car that I have always wondered about.

Smokey Yunick even went on the dark side for a short time and built a 69 Mustang. It had a really wild set of headers.

D@m, that Milano is pretty sharp looking. I've never seen that car before. Kind of looks like a Delorean doesn't it.

COPO, any idea what might have happened to the Milano? Was it a running vehicle or just a styling exercise minus running gear?

Ah ok this Super Snake Shelby /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
For the Milano it's probably just a styling car.

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/scholar.gif Now my understanding was. That there was a some-total of 4 cars made. 1-was the blue boss 429. 1-was a 429 SCJ that was painted Candy apple red. and two more were built. and both of them were Cougars. 1-was a boss 429 elimnator painted a coral color. and the other was a 429 SCJ conv. that was painted grabber blue. but the wereabouts of these two Cougars are unknown. My understanding is that there were only 2 Boss 429 Cougars and both of them were standard cars. One of them exists.
Charley, I have the shot of your car on a lift plus some other neet shots at the Goodyear track in a 25 year old thick crummy paper magazine on the history of Shelby.
Let me know if you want it, I can mail it to you to copy.

Here's a comprehensive article on the Boss 429 Cougars:

good article about some great car detective work.
Also shows the extent the factories would go to get cars on the race tracks. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif
