Thought I would share this with you guys. This is an article I read in Motor Trend.

"The Chevrolet Corvette was named the number one stolen collector vehicle in a recent study conducted by the Hagerty Protection Network (HPN) between July 1999 and December 2002."

"The report issued by Hagerty Insurance, the nation's largest insurer of collectible cars and motorcycles, indicates that vintage Chevrolets are the most stolen brand commanding close to 40 percent of collector cars stolen in the last three years."

2. Ford Mustang (1964-1969) 6.5 %
3. Chevrolet Impala (1958-1967) 5.6%
4. Chevrolet Camaro (1968, 1969) 4.7%
5. Harley Davidson motorcycles (1941-1974) 4.4%
6. Chevrolet Nova (1963-1972) 3.6%
7. Chevrolet Chevelle (1966-1973) 2.7%
8. Chevrolet Monte Carlo (1970-1978) 2.4%

Mr T, Did the article say what the overall theft rate was? ie what percent of classic cars get stolen? With classic rates so low, the percentage must be low, too.

WHAT? No Mopars?? Must be that high tech anti theft device they call a starter.

Yes I think in R+D the name for the starter was changed from Gear reduction to thieft reduction. I thought it was called start reduction /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif.

I believe the part about the Corvette. 25+ years ago, my wife and I were attending Bloomington with a group of friends from a Corvette club we belonged to. We had driven our '64 Vette there, as did as few others. Saturday evening we all went to Red Lobster, parking our cars in their lot. When we came out, one car was missing, a 1963 Split Window, with all of the goodies, Fuel injection, knockoffs, etc. The week before he had turned down a "king's ransom" for the car. Several years later the car had still not be found. And, by the way, only had liability insurance coverage. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

Unfortunately, the overall theft rate was not mentioned, along with the percent of classic cars stolen. All they mentioned was the classics, the top ten. I wish they would have, it would have been interesting to see out of all the cars stolen, how many were classics. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif
