COPO PETE

So why do most people refer to the COPO Chevelle in 69 as COPO 9562? And when I look at all the Canadian micro films they refer to the COPO Chevelle as COPO 9566?????
Peter
There were 8 different COPO 9562 Codes available for the 1969 13637 Chevelle. Each had its own 2 letter suffix.
All had the L-72 427/425Hp Engine,and either an M-21.M-22,or TH400 Trans.among Various other components.
On top of that were two more Codes.Code 9566 AA & BA.
These were exceptions for the RPO L-78 Tires,be it Man. Trans,,or TH400 respectively.

I think that the only 9562 COPO cars were the ones with the 9739 COPO option. All the Canadian paperwork that I have seen has shown 9566AA. As for the L78 tires, that seems to be a mystery. Our COPO Chevelle came with F-70X14 white lettered Uniroyals. Our L78 Chevelle came with PW7 white wall tires. There certainly doesn't seem to be anything L78 special about them. Any thoughts? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

OK... I'll answer my own question. 9566 was the COPO # assigned to the cars that came with 14 inch tires and 9562 ws the # that was assigned to the cars with 15 inch tires. That is why the Yenkos are refered to as COPO 9562 cars. I should check my own research before asking questions!

Most of the Canadian imported Copo Chevelles are 9566 Copos with 14" wheels. There were Canadian Copo Chevelles that are listed with Copo 9737LE, Copo 9562DE and 9694CB Power Drum Brakes! There are at least 3 equipped with these options that shipped into Canada. Triple Copos!

Pete I donít know it that is true because there were about 10 different numbers used in the documents for 427 COPO Chevelles. This probably has something to do with the way Baltimore Assembly plant handled their assembly documentation. Compared to Norwood who used one number (9561) for L72 Camaro production. It is not clear how many numbers were actually used for the 427 COPO Chevelle program. I believe that Yenko ordered the first L72 Chevelles with 9562 then there were changes made using different COPO numbers as more dealers wanted to order them with their own selection of options.
Mark, I still like to see those documents /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

The new 14 inches wheels (Magnum SS) start on chevelle COPO with the new 9566 code. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif
This code was probably created for these wheels.

Just for clarification, Copo 9694CB is the copo for a single piston type - manual design front disc brake unit. The CB suffix refers an order combined with a 3-speed automatic transmission together with Copo 9737 and RPO J50 Vacuum Power Brakes. Disc Brakes were a manditory option on these cars.

If the 9694CB is the 3 speed auto with disc brake why is the J52 option not on the vehicle import sheet option list, only J50? The Canadian documentation call out 9694CB as 3 speed auto equipped with power drum. I would expect that if CB combined the J50 Power brake, 9737 option and disc brake option, the J52 would also be reflected in the option list as the J50 is. The 9737LE option is listed seperately on these cars. Another mystery.

Copo 9694 was used instead of J52. Here is a breakdown of parts used:

Finally, calipers (5469120-21)and a Driver-screw #2 Cross Recess (3760276).
