The car was sitting in the seller's backyard since 1977 or '78. Like most solid lifter 4sp car's sitting that long,it still had it's original CE warranty block. All else was original to the car.The miles were low,63K(?).

I wonder if this is the same car that was on eBay a year or two back, in unrestored condition. I definitely remember one, seems to me it was down in the San Diego area, and an LA built special paint car, with no documentation. There was a lot of discussion about it here and/or on Team Chevelle back then.

Cool /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Good to know my mind is not completely gone.....yet /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
I remember this car on Ebay too Bill.
You don't see too many 1970 Chevelles with stripe delete on their working cowl Ind. hoods. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif
Astock...can I talk to you about this Chevelle,or should I call the dealer?
I see a 1968 Smog Pump on the engine,as well as Repro. Mast Cylinder, among other things..Not bashing this,as I am interested in it.

I am the owner of the above referenced car. Classic Auto is my company. If anybody needs details not listed on my website description of the car, I'd be happy to provide them. My email is
[email protected] .Just to clear the air, this was never an undocumented car, it has always had paperwork! The smog pump is the same one that was on it when found, so if it were changed, it was done pre-1976.
I have scanned 2 of the build sheets and some registration slips for the car, they will be posted on my website soon (hopefully tonight!).
Thanks for the interest-

Does that car have a charcoal canister on it? Isn't that the contraption below the washer jug? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif Is that a '71 piece, or part of "California emmissions" on a '70? I don't know too much about "California emissions" except that it always jacks the sticker price just enough to throw the bidders off on the Price is Right. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Pretty car, to be sure. Looks like a "different" one (in a good way). On the interior front, someone restored the dash with silver around the high beam and directional lights, which is incorrect, although a minor mistake. Other neat cars on the web site.

If we're getting picky, the steering wheel shroud appears to be '69 grain as well, with '70 horn buttons. I think the SS emblem is in upside down too, but I sure wouldn't throw it out of my garage. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Guys-
I think you may be trying too hard to find a chink in this cars armor. This was NOT a basket case before restoration, it was an completely unmolested car that was merely parked in 1976 in the owners back yard. The dash is unrestored, if the silver paint is wrong, well, call GM - 'cause that is the way it was! Unless , of course, the owner needed to touch it up when the car was <6 years old. Same with the steering wheel.
I can fully appreciate members of this group looking out for each other. Overall, I think a lot of the posts are quite valid especially considering the glut of absolute s$# on the market these days! However, the "guilty until proven innocent" method of judging cars is getting old, at least to me. I am a car collector and enthusiast first and foremost , being a dealer is a side effect of the sickness. Trust me when I say that I look at a LOT of cars and weed out 98% within seconds of seeing them. This Chevelle is a car well known to me that I watched being restored.
I welcome any of you to come and look at the car in person, or any of my cars for that matter. I'll even tap off a round of Milwaukee's Finest in the shop. All I ask is that before you jump to conclusions about what is right and what is presumed wrong on a car that you do a little home work first and research the subject.
Oh yeah, please don't get my web guy fired up by posting copywrited and water marked pictures from my site! He gets all puffy and starts rattling on about "intelectual property" and "copywright infringment" blah, blah, blah. If you want a picture to use, let me know and I'll send you the picture sans water mark - with my blessings.
Best regards to all -

These folks have done research, and thats why they can spot the things that are incorrect. Its a very nice looking car, with a very unique combo of options, but I'm gonna have to side with the others that have said there are numerous items not original to the car, the steering wheel shroud is definitly not original, as it has the correct 70 style buttons and a 69 grain texture on the center shroud. There are several other obvious things (some mentioned and other unmentioned) that have been changed. Thats not to knock or bash the car in any way, but whether or not the stuff was changed out in 76 or last week really doesn't make much difference, as they are still things that would need to be corrected. I have seen your Cobrari (Cobra with V12 Ferrari motor) at Road America a few times over the years. What an interesting car, amazing to look at.

Thanks for the compliment. The "Cobrari" is a fun car that really makes people scratch their heads! Last year I put on a Tec coil pack ignition (distributorless) which made about 40 more horsepower, this winter we are playing with EFI. As cool as it is to look at, it is much more fun to have it at 7900 rpm in 3rd gear - ever hear a V-12 Ferrari with open pipes under your ear? Next time you see it, find me and we'll go for a ride.
That is, of course, if the fact that there are many incorrect parts on it doesn't offend you!Not only do I not know what year the horn button is, I'll be dammed if I remember where I got it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif~! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burnout.gif

More reason than free beer? Well, I do have the "Noah's Ark" Judge collection, 1 white/red 70 RAIII 4 speed convert, 3x nat'l GTOAA Gold champ, 1 white/red 70 RAIII 4 spd HT twin; 1 black/black 70 RAIII 4spd w/ a/c, pw, ps and 22 other options convert, 1 black/black 70 RAIV 4 spd HT twin, some funny colored Mopars, a couple of original Shelby Cobras, another 70 Chevelle SS (396/350 4 speed) (for sale soon!),a bunch of funny 'furrin cars, a Paxton S/C 66 GT-350, and some other goofy stuff. We usually have a shop party at some point in the summer and get the city to shut down my street, usually leading to a burn-out (cars, not people) contest by the end of the night /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif. That would be the best time to visit, 'cuase it is just too damn cold right now anyway!
Thanks for the positive feedback, good to know that imperfect or not people still appreciate great cars.
Regards,
Colin
Oh yeah, and since I have known Charley for a while, I really like this thing: /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/CharleySucks.gif
A ride in the Cobrari, you bet I'm up for that. After watching all those vintage race cars all weekend I'm running the rental car like a hot rod. Last year I got a touring pass and heated up the brakes a bit on the track.

Hey boyz, I was the guy in SD that owned this car, Colin is a great friend and his cars are ALWAYS represented 100% honest. This was a great car and I wish I would of kept it but too many projects and no room. It's anyones game to rip on a car but I can say the dash was perfect and original when I had the car a few years back. This is the ultimate rare car found behind a house story that was fully true!!! Hope it goes to good home! Good luck buyers!

The car was found in LA by another friend, as soon as I found out I bought it sight unseen. The bottom line is I knew what I had, my intent was to frame off it but I moved it for some dumb reason. I sold it to a mutual friend after dealing with all the idiots on ebay who tried to say it was a fake car because everyone is an expert. The original and first build sheet I found on top of the gas tank, it clearly stated the buyers intent, special order Huggar orange stripe delete cowl induction, bench gear floor jerk L78. Every detail was correct with the exception of the block which had history and was dated 4 months past the fall 69 build date. The heads, intake, carb etc were all correct, all the smog was still on the car and was complete, even the dated belts were still on it. Great car, like I said earlier, Colin knows his car's and he knows the history on this one, he is a very good friend is one of the few honest people out there. The car might need detailing but it is truly a rare piece.
