Does anyone know the exact color breakdown for 70 Judges? I know that Mint Turquoise was the most rare color for 70 GTO production followed by Orbit Orange, Starlight black was third or fourth in least produced colors. Atoll blue was the most popular. No one seems to have the color breakdown for the Judges, anyone have any info?

Hi, the colors are broke down in a GTOAA june 1997 legend. The Orbitorange(618) is lowest, mint turq(774), burgundy(1,246),palmino copper(1,457), black(1,515). this is list for GTOs. I've not seen breakdown for color # for Judges. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

There's some guy on the PY site who has compiled some care, but it's less than scientific. For example, he has no Atoll Blue cars, even though I think they are in the top 3 of the most popular Judge colors.

What I think is cool is Orbit Orange standard GTOs. I know of one. Was the car in Two Lane Blacktop another one?

There was a 455 D-port, convt @ the 96 nats in Atlanta. It was orig. orbitorange non judge. As I said before GTO AA has list of GTO colors, but no # breakdown for Judges. Atoll blue the most common, after seeing so many green ones out there, I'm surprised. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

The one in Atlanta was the one I was talking about.

The production figures by color are available in a few books, most notable Tom Demauro's. I believe all the dark greens were pretty much "up there" in popularity, if memory serves correct.

Hi, alth /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gifough I was born @ end of 1960s, i think the green was popular among the GIs. They were prob. so used to seeing it all the time. The car in Atlanta was a rough one. Do you have any pontiacs??

DaJudge

Atoll Blue was popular I know of three RA IV Judges. One was owned by GTO_Don, another one was right down the street and a third one was at the nationals a few years back. I should try to hook up with Jim M, the company I work for has software that takes micro film and digitizes it. You can then perform searches for particular codes and phrases like L67 or Ram Air IV, color codes or even search by vin or dealer . It would be awesome to have that type of a tool available to really crunch some numbers, you could then cross reference to VIN's that are still active and ones not yet found to see what is left out there.

Does anyone have any pics of different colored judges than what I've seen? I've only seen orange and silver judges, and maybe a pic of a yellow one? I'm not a real big pontiac fan, so I've never seen any other colors than what I've seen at the local car shows. Thanks guys!

Pete's Judge is my favorite Judge, but it came to be because of YOUR Judge on Stratham's cover! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif
/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif

What do you guys think of painting a '72 with Orbit "O" with the judge stripes (but deleting the Judge insignias, of course)?
The Judge in "Two Lane Blacktop" was Orbit Orange but had the "GTO" decals because it was not a Judge.
(I know this because I lost a bet on it!)
/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

I just can't find a color I like for '72 besides Cardinal red. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif Do you think it would depreciate the Goat if I used Orbit? Do you think it would add value if I used a '72 color like Cardinal Red?

That was a great day when the author Steve called me and told me my Judge was going to be on the cover. I was shocked.
Paint your car any color you want. Cardinal Red is a stunning color also. Can't go wrong with Orbit Orange.
Orbit Orange was never used on ANY other GM, Ford or Mopar. It was only applied to 1970 GTO's. There is a color Chevy uses now for fleet vehicles and work trucks called ??? It looks very close to Orbit Orange.

Went to both sites. In the first site the original color does not look Orbit Orange but more of Canyon Copper color. In the second site he states it is not a Judge but a clone. Leads me to believe he may have changed the color. Still a beautiful color. If you go to the first site and back up one page you will see the car as he was working on it. Check out the second pic. Kind of hard to tell but not the same color as when the trunk was installed and the trunk is open in anothe pic. Pardon the pun, but you be the judge!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

I believe Steve Stratham or Tom DeMauro mentioned in their book(s) that Orbit-O was only available in 1970.

Someone tried to tell me that Chevy "Hugger Orange" was the same color as O-O, and that GM was "too lazy" to mix other colors for different divisions. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif I now know that Hugger -O was way more of a "pumpkin" orange.
I also read that true orbit Orange is supposed to be dead-on the color of orange juice.
The reason being is that in summer '69, when the 1970 colors were decided, Neil Armstrong landed on the moon -- "TANG" was very popular as the "astronaut's drink", so Pontiac jumped on the popularity of NASA and developed "Orbit Orange".

Nope, actually it's a '73 Pontiac color- Navajo Orange.
The owner called me last night and gave me all the color info. He said it's a Judge clone with a 400, but he's got a 455 waiting to be dropped in.

He said the car takes-on a brownish hue under cloudy skies, or at dusk, but the color gets plenty of attention.

It does kinda look like "Carousel Red" (with just a hint of brown http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif).
