Hi All,

I am new to this board and really appreciate the wealth of info here.

I would like to know if anyone knows any of the history of this car.
The car came from either upstate New York or north New Jersey.
I found time slips from Raceway Park in Englishtown, New Jersey.
The car was originally Dusk Blue - 4 speed/black interior.
It appears to have been painted white, at one time and here are
pics of it's more recent color scheme:

Thanks!

>>elon, is your copo documented? It has no power brake booster. Roger <<

Roger,

It has no documentation as far as paperwork.

I do have the original engine which matches the
VIN.

It also has the original BE rear.

I have talked to Kurt Sonen (sp)? and he says
that there is a very high probability that it is
a COPO car, based on research he has done.

According to the previous owner,
the car has no power brake booster because
it was converted over to drum brakes.

You missed a digit on your VIN.

Elon,

Is this a COPO 9560 or 9561? You mentioned you have the original engine, and if this is a COPO 9560, that would be amazing to still have the factory ZL1. Or, is it a L-72?

I found the car in South Plainfield NJ, where it had
been stored in a storage container since the late
70's.

It is an L-72.

You are right, it would be AMAZING to have a ZL-1!!!
What a cool ride that would be...eh?:-)

I'd like to update this thread as it's been over a year and
I have gathered new info to add to the mix.

First of all, it has recently been documented by Jerry MacNeish
as an L72 Camaro ordered new by Malcolm Konner Chevrolet
in Paramus, NJ. The rear axle in the vehicle is the original housing
installed by the Norwood plant in June 1969.

I am still seeking information regarding the history, including
prior ownership of this car.

It has come to my attention that it may have been raced anywhere
from Atco, Englishtown, Island Raceway and/or Lebanon Raceway.

The original engine was located around the Albany, New York area,
after being separated from the car for a period of time.

The car was originally dusk blue and at some point, it was painted
white prior to its dashing brown 70's paint job.

The right front fender was replaced, at some point, so maybe
someone knows someone who could have done work on this car.

It also appears the car was run in either a Super Stock or a
Stock Eliminator Class.

Any and all leads appreciated.

Thanks!

Elon

Did you locate the engine or was the engine with the car when you bought it? Always like to hear about cars that have had their drivetrains reunited.

Elon,

I will also check with some of the Division one racers that I know. Joe Fasano knows the Malcolm Konner dealer very well and still lives in the area. Unfortunately if it's a Division One NHRA car, it probably led a rough life.

HiHorse,

The engine was with the car, but not insstalled when I purchased the car. The previous owner bought the car first, stored it and went looking for the engine.

He was able to trace the ownership back to the previous owners and finally found the engine. At the time it was still running in another vehicle. Apparently this search took him over 5 years until he located it.

After locating the engine, he made a deal with the vehicles ownwer to swap out the COPO engine and replace it with a
new engine.

This was way before the privacy laws were enacted.

I tried to run a check through NJ DMV and wound up with a bunch of paperwork, with the previous owners names and addresses crossed out by the NJ DMV.

It's totally illegible.

Jerry,

Thank you!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I figure with that paint job, there has to be someone who would remember the car.

You can tell there may have been many people who worked on the car. Some of the work was professional looking, some was out-right butchery (in my opinion) and some was right in the middle of those two extremes.

But it was the 70's, and this really wasn't any different than many street/race cars looked like from that era.

My point is, someone had to paint the car, someone must have seen it running on the street or on the track. Someone welded up the traction bars, beat the rear fender wells in, cut a hole in the trans tunnel etc, etc.

I had timing slips from Englishtown which I unfortunately misplaced. With the internet being what it is, there is an excellent possibility that someone will look at the pictures and jog their memory.

I appreciate the kind words. As Bruce mentioned, the car is in good hands and that's where the idea for the thin whitewalls came from. It's amazing how something so simple as the thin whitewall can make such a huge impact in regards to how the car looks.
