You couldn't have a better person (Charley Lillard) trying to help you. Also the ethical thing would not be selling the car on ebay until the real facts are discovered, unless you disclose the uncertainty to the bidders so they are honestly informed. My .02.

What info are you referring to? If you sent good pictures of the documentation to people on this site, some of them can definitely help determine if the documentation is legit or not. But see what Charley can do to help you out.

I just had a conversation with Tim, the owner of the Car. He seems like a decent guy and really does want to figure out exactly what he has. He is in Wisconsin and the car and paperwork are in Florida. He had gone back there and took the protecto plate pic but didn't realize it was too small to read. Until he can get back there he can't provide any paperwork. It might be a Month from now. He doesn't know much about COPO's so the things that ring wrong to us don't mean a thing to him. It might be a Dana car or it might be something made up but if somebody was making a fake car I don't think they would build it like they did. He will let me know when he gets to the paperwork so in the mean time can we cut him some slack please. He does want to sell the car but I told him the only way to get any Supercar type money out of it is to provide the paperwork. I am not trying to beat anybody to the car. If someone wants to offer him Money for the car they might consider it contingent on the paperwork. It would be neat if it was real. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/Charley.gif

So is the car still for sale on Ebay or are you going to wait until you can check the documentation again? I would think that you would stop the auction until you can have someone knowledgable check the documentation. If you let the auction go, somebody will have the legal right to the car at the price it ends at.

didnt Kurt S state here that he checked and the car was not real my bet is he is right

Charley Lillard

I think Kurts statment was in regards to it being a 427 Copo. That doesn't mean it can't be a Dana converted car.

OK folks, its a new year and lets see what WE CAN find out about this car. Total of 4 different threads were going dealing with the same car so I decided to lock the others and keep this one open with dana man requests for help.

Stuart Adams

In my opinion this site can only help you, not hurt you. I'm pretty sure you bought the car at FAR below SUPERCAR prices. Assuming that, if the car is not real then you have a neat car that is probably fun and worth what you paid and you gained valueable knowledge about these cars, no money lost. Assuming on the other hand, this site and the many great people here help you document a car that is far more valueable than you anticipated then everybody wins - you have a valueable car, the buyer gets a valueable car, the car community gets another great car, the restorers get business from restoring the car, and it is one more great car that someone will own and share. That is what it's about. Alot of the SUPERCARS change hands from time to time. So multiple people get joy over owning the same car. I honestly hope it turns out to be what you say the car is.

I don't even have a real feel for what it is but from my conversation with Dana-Man I don't think he has made this stuff up to try and scam anybody. That does not mean that the paperwork he was given with the car is real. We just gotta wait and see.....But then again I tend to trust most of you Jerks out there and look where that gets me... wearing a Monkey Face in a POS Belair..

Stuart Adams

Belair I think he is talking about that awseome car with the Ronald McDonald twins in the car after eating a gut burger. I'm not sure so maybe you should repost the picture to find out.

I don't think there are any documented 69 427 COPO Camaros built in CA found yet never mind a 68

COPO
01-03-2004, 01:40 PM
According to the COPO.com website there is a single 69 COPO Camaro from LA. ====> L531088 Clippenger Chevrolet Covina, CA, Burnished Brown, Chip G

Not to step on toes here but what about this link that was posted a few days ago about this car? It is the very same car on ebay and seems to have been built up.
The asking price on the website was only $18,555/offer plus the dealer is in Wisconsin. Looks like it was sold there as well.

If I was a bidder on ebay with a $30K plus bid on this car and found this link I would be very, very unhappy.
You make the call.

What the guy paid for the car is irrelevant. It doesn't matter if he paid a dollar or a hundred thousand, it's worth what someone will pay.
If I were high bidder at $30k, and it turned out to be a Dana converted car, I'd be real happy, regardless of what he paid.

I agree 100%. There is nothing wrong with buying a car and selling it for more than you paid. And as stated, if it does turn out to be a documented Dana car, the only one who should be upset is the dealer who sold it for 18K. If it turns out to be a put-together car, well then thats a different story all together... I for one am anxiously awaiting the outcome of this mystery paperwork saga.

I was just giving my opinion on this car and like I said if I was the high bidder and found a link with the same car for sale at a third of what it is now I would be very cautious.
It would have been a lot less trouble and naming calling if the seller had done his homework before he started this mess!
Why not call the dealer where it originally came from? Has anybody done that? It seems strange that the dealer who deals in muscle cars wouldn't know it was a COPO.

The paperwork will have the cars serial # on it. If the paperwork appears real then you can tie it to the car by the serial # on the car. They are throwing BS at you because they have yet to see any paperwork. Please just let us keep this calm until there is something to see.

Here is what I have found out as of today by talking to two previous owners that Dennis Barker made me aware of because he remembers the car. Previous owners state that there was no Protecto plate or Window Sticker that they knew of. The Engine that was last known to be in it is a 454 out of a Pro Street Vega. The rear end was out of a Pontiac.................

Dana Man you asked for a DETECTIVE to search for information on the car for you and I think you received what you asked for.I do not think you like what you received. But you are dealing with people on this site that know there S$%#.I would bet money Charlie knows what he is talking about. It is hard to pull the wool over these guys eyes! Now I am not saying you are tryng to pull the wool over anyone but seems Charlie has struck a NERVE, I have read all the post on this subject and if you want to find out if your documentation is CORRECT,why would you have to go to Florida for that. Why not have the person in Florida fax the paperwork to Charlie,I would bet he could tell from a fax copy if the documents are REAL or not and not even have to see the originals you have.Or have good quality copies sent by FED EX To him if it is that important to you.If I owned a car like what you have with the documents you have I would spend the money to fly someone there to make sure everything is REAL.I bet you are probably through trying to find out anymore information on the car from these guys because I think you know by now it is hard to BULL$%^&*# these guys! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif I am wiating to hear more on this but I bet it is pretty much over now! I emailed you back at [email protected] . That is the address you sent me the Protecto plate pic from. You are free to stop by Parks Automotive at 625 W. North Street and talk to Jim or Ron. Ron used to own the car. I have known Todd for awhile so I don't know why he would lie to me as he has nothing to gain.

Jim Parks is a good Friend. He put the 427 Emblems on your Car. Jim is known around the Supercar Arena from having owned probably the best 67 Yenko there is. Also owns a 3000 mile 69 Yenko and a 2002 ZL1. He drives on Power Tour every year and your Camaro did part of a Power Tour with Jim. Now you can accuse him of not knowing what he is talking about but I don't think you will get very far. Your car belonged to one of his employees. As for you bashing Todd...I didn't see him trying to sell the Camaro as a Copo.

I didn't have a 4.6 GPA like my son but I'm no dummy. Why is everybody that has any info. that does not go along with your claims FOS. See put all the BS aside for one moment and step back. NO one here would put up a SUPERCAR for sale without their ducks in a row, which yours aern't and we know that, so that is the bottom line. YOU, not us, are trying to sell something without the facts, so don't blame Charley or anyone else here. YOU are the only one that can clear YOUR NAME by showing us what YOU have. Period.

This is Todd from Can't Drive 55. Thank-you to all who showed interest in this car. Thanks for all of your input and support. I sold this car to Dana man as it was sold to me. You can see on my web site that it is the same car that was listed on e-bay. My web site is at www.cantdrive55.net (http://www.cantdrive55.net)

Thank-you Charlie http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif and Jim Parks http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif for standing behind me. I would never falsify information to make a sale. Or would I ever blame someone else for my mistakes. Thanks for your great detective work and for setting Dana man straight!! All anyone has to do is look at my inventory and caliber of vehicles to see that I am not someone who "beats or abuses" his vehicles. I have been in this business for 27 years and I have had world of wheels winners, a studabaker grand national champion, and I even painted a car for the president of Baharian. Just to set the record straight. My cars have been sold at Hot August Nights in Reno, NV. I hope this puts this whole mess to rest. Thanks again. Todd

I just spoke (e-mailed) Charley a few times and need to set a few things straight. I bought this 68 Camaro from a mechanic who works for Jim Parks. I did NOT do any work to the car. I did not change the rear end. The motor in the car when I bought it and when I sold it was the same motor, from a 1974 Pro-street Vega. I did talk to Dana man yesterday and he told me that HE was the one who changed the rear end in Florida. The rear end that was in the car when I bought and sold it was the same. It was NOT a 12-bolt. Also I never had or saw any POP or any documentation with the car that stated that it was a COPO Camaro or "Dana" or whatever Dana man said the car was. I spoke with Dana man again today (01/06/04) and asked why he slandered me and he said he didn't mean to he was just mad at some of the stuff Charley had posted. If you represent something you have to have the balls to back it up and don't blame other people for your http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bs.gif.

Belair,
My computer tried to be a wise ass to me, the darn thing just would not do what it was supposed to.....considering the fact that my wife has been making me behave in public, Charlie has a gun pointed at my head here in Yenko land, I got winter fever cause the Harley wont negotiate snow drifts well, the cat has been smart enough to hide, so all the pent up aggression was used teaching a non co-operative computer how to fly which worked as well as the Wright Brothers first plane with similar yet more drastic results. So, the short answer as to where I have been, no method of cyber communication due to a childish Temper Tantrum. Even though I may have won the battle with the computer, the electronics store and Dell won the war by relieving me of a considerable group of my dead Presidents. How I wish it were spring with sunshine, dry pavement, and that wonderful aroma of burning rubber to reward the senses and calm the nerves. I am certainly thankful that I have not been causing or taking part in the train wrecks here, I cant afford another computer or nervous disorders that would have followed along had I joined in the fray with the latest Bozo that felt the need to grace all of our lives with the latest attempt of placing a packmule amoung the stable of thoroughbreds. As you may decipher from this post, I am truly at wits end with cabin fever and pent up aggression. Thats where I have been. I missed you too....Happy New Year! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

That sure would make parking easier.....I learned to drive on a Harley, I know they dont go backwards, I did here a story once about a jap bike, I think it was called a yellow wing, or gold bat, or something like that, but I had heard it had a reverse....probebly just an urban legend though......
