Just so I understand your post. The car came from the factory with the alumimin heads and the factory put the cast iron heads were in the trunk.

Sounds like dealer installed aluminum heads and they left the original iron heads in the trunk. So it would really be an L78 car with L89 heads added.

Would that still be considered an L-89 car?

Not a factory installed L89, but maybe a dealer installed L89. The L89 engine option would have to be on the window sticker or the correct engine code on the p-o-p to be considered a factory L89.

THE CAR CAME FROM THE FACTORY WITH THE L78 HEADS,THE 427 HEADS WERE INSTALLED AT THE DEALERSHIP. I BELIEVE THERE WERE NO FACTORY 427 ALUM HEADS INSTALLED AT THE FACTORY

JH would be the correct code for an Iron Block and head L78.

Seems this thread has gone from "something wanted" to a discussion about your Nova http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Very cool car for sure.

You keep referring to "427" Aluminum Heads. I could be mistaken, but I believe in 1969 certain heads were used strictly on 427's (L88 & ZL1) while others were used on both 427's and 396's (L89). Be interesting to know if the dealer installed 074's or 842's.

Good luck with your car search.

What would be the reason that the factory would not install L89 heads on a nova, and instead have it dealer installed? What are we missing here as to the logic behind this? There seems to be no apparent reason for this deviation from a production capability stand point. If you can do it for camaros, chevelles, corvettes, why not novas? Someone solve this mystery already. Schonye

yes its rallye green.i wish i knew if they ever installed 427 alum heads from the factory on these cars.that would help solve the mystery. anyway its a cool car because of its original condition, for me anyway because most of my cars are restored cars .im trying to get used to the idea of a 34 year old car with the original paint, and interior by the way is very very nice. any help would be appreciated.
thanks
