I have a 12-bolt posi that came out of a 69 Camaro, but all the numbers don't correspond for a 69. The code on the axle tube is BS W0221 E, which shows it's a 3.31 posi for a 69 Camaro. The center section casting # is 3969341NF, with a F180 date code, which says it's from a 70 Camaro. The dimensions of this rear is definitely for a 69; the measurement between the axle tube flanges is 54 1/4", and the measurement between the centerline of the spring seats is 42 7/16". Can anyone explain this? By the way, if anyone is interested this rear is for sale or trade.

The 67-69 Camaro and 68-72 Nova rears are 53 1/4 flange to flange and the 70 up Camaro is 1 inch wider 54 1/4 (1/2 wider per side). The 70 up will physically fit in the earlier cars but can cause a clearance problem with a wide wheel tire combo but works fine with factory wheels. Mark

Taken from Novaresource.com

Rear Axle Dimensions

Thats correct, they premiered the new 70 Camaros in Feb. 1970.
So how can the casting date, which says June 18 1970,and should be the earliest of the rearend dates,be after the date of the Ratio code of BS Feb. 21,which is a 1969 suffix, not a 70. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

I do not have the car this rear came out of. I bought this rear 15 yrs ago and its been lying here in my shop, I'm tired of falling over it, so I would like to sell it. My problem is when I tell someone I have a 69 12-bolt for sale and they ask for the date code and its F180 I never hear back from them. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

The date is definitely F180 and on the other side is CON2, with the # 65 above it in large numbers. This rear has a very nice casting with no pitting there is no mistaking the #'s, they are very bold. What does the CON2 represent?

The axle is a 70 part, out of a Nova. But that code isn't right. Shouldn't have a W in it. A 70 Nova code would be CBS.
