In it, they have a '68 SS427. They claim the SS option was mutually exclusive from the SS427 option, so in other words, the SS427 was completely separate from the SS rather than being an option on top of an option. Is this true?

This could be true if the base SS would be a 396 no? The SS427 would be more exclusive than a SS396?

The SS427 option was Z24 on the option sheet. There should also be a Z24 emblem on the right side of the dash if it's a real SS427. You could get just the 427 without the SS427 option. Which means, you got the 427 engine without all the SS do-dads.

to clarify what he means you could buy an ss with any engine including a 427,and you could buy an ss427 which gave you the cowl hood, gill fenders,ss427 on the steering wheel, dash emblem above the glovebox. it said z24 on your buildsheet. same option in 67-68 http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Thanks for your responses, but I was not clear enough.

I know there is a special model/option called the SS427. This car received a special hood, among other things. This is different from the regular SS model/option, which was basically a bucketsand console package in the past.

This article said that the SS427 could be ordered with the regular SS option. I am curious if this is true? I always assumed that you could have one or the other but not both.

Diego, I think the article is wrong. In fact, i'm sure it's wrong. I had a documented 1968 Z24, and it only listed the Z24 SS427 option. Not the Z24 on top of anything else SS packaged.
