I want to put an individual runner EFI fuel injection sysrem on my 396 powered 67 Chevy II. Been looking at Kinsler and Hilborn. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

How much do you plan on driving it on the street? Those are not great street setups. How will you start it in cold weather? Stand outside and squirt gas in it?

I would say forget it for eveyday use. Sure look good though. Lucas makes a smooth running one too. Mostly used on Can Am race cars. It could be used on the street in a pinch but still would not be what you think would be the trick setup. If you could go to the floor at every stoplight you would not have much problems with them but traffic would not be pretty.

I would recomend a factory street setup for reliability and mid-range driveability.

He is talking Electronic EFI, not mechanical. My Silver 69 has the Kinsler and works fine on the street. We drove it on Power Tour last year. I had spoken with someone that put the Hilborn EFI on a Cobra with Hilborns computer and they had a bunch of problems till they figured out they had a defective Computer. Now he likes it.

It has been my experience that the Hilborn EFI is a great choice for old school engine tuners who like to tune with a srew driver. The Hilborn ECM actually has electrical "pots" which are adjusted with a screwdriver.

Most other control systems require more complicated computer interfaces that the average builder is not capable of learning quickly. These also cost a whole heck of a lot more, but offer better drivability when tuned properly. I'm not so sure you'll need to improve the drivability, unless you are trying to make the car drive like a Lexus.

The bottom line is the Hilborn is an economical controller that does the job better than a carburator or mechanical injection. I was able to tune one pretty well just by going by the seat of the pants feel. It probably could be done better on the dyno- but this was close enought for the girls we go out with.

My appoligizes to all. Man it has been just too long since I have read a hotrod magazine or even tried to keep up with everything on the hotrod scene. I guess that is why my cars are kinda in a time warp from the early 80's. I had to just give the street machines all up and tend to my Pool business. I also got too involved in SCCA racing. It can be like a drug habit and you just loose touch with the street scene.

Dam you know it seems like just yesterday when I parked the Motions so I could devote more time to my SCCA B/P vette. I had some good times. I even got to meet Paul Newman and race against him.

It is so strange to not be up on the hot rod world that I loved so much back then. Father time is just not fair.

I just turned "59" the 7th and feel like I am getting dumber everyday. Now if you want to know anything about a Honda Valkyrie Motorcycle I might be a little better versed in them. I have been eat up with them for the last 5 yr's. Funny till I just now thought about it that also seems like just yesterday. I guess I am having just too much fun out of life. (This is my bike at Eureka Springs Ark).

I want to appoligize to any and all if I have misinformed anyone about anything.

I am learning again and hope I didn't step on anyones toes.
