Any predictions on the muscle car auction prices for these events?

I saw in the latest Hemmings where they showed the results of the Silver Auction, and there were many cars that did not meet reserve, nor their avge selling price! Is this an omen of things to come now that the DJIA is above 10k and my 401k finally made some substantial income?

The Silver Scottsdale auction is this weekend. My personal feeling is that prices are gonna skyrocket at the BJ Auction. I believe they reported twice as many registered bidders as last year. I was told that BJ has about 17 Hemi cars going across the block and I think they are all no Reserve ? There seems to be a frenzy in the upper end that is making my head spin. At some point the bubble has to burst but I think this Auction is gonna set some Records....But then again if I were so smart I would have all the Money.......

Charley,
This morning I couldn't go to work because it was SO stiflingly cold (Is "stiflingly" a word?) so I was Net-surfing and came across Joe Conte's Corvette website and found out that HE owns the infamous 1964 red Pontiac GTO that DeLorean and Wangers had snuck a 421 cid monster into before the March '64 Car & Driver test.
I decided to give him a call.
What a great guy! He told me all about the red '64 Goat and where it's been hiding all these years.

I asked him if he'd sell it and he said he wasn't planning on it until someone offered him OVER $60K for it earlier this year!
So we talked about the BJ Auction and he indicated that he might be interested in that venue... looking to get closer to $100,000 for that infamous car!

Yep, the prices are still going up and will continue to do so until all of us Boomers get too old to run 'em any longer. (IMHO, of course!)

Charley,
I have to agree with you, my personal thoughts are many cars will hit record prices this year, it will be interesting to see what #66 brings on the block. I have more people calling to locate particular cars then those interested in selling. The owners of several cars that I am aware of that could be for sale have raised the prices substancialy in the last six months. I expect the greatest gains will be in the lower production super rare over the more common but still rare examples. I project the #66 to hit the 320-335K mark. I think the best examples of the LS-6 cars to hit new territory, also the "Survivor" cars will have an across the board increase. Also, the low production rare Pontiacs will continue climbing. Those are "Motown's" picks for this year.

The only problem with him selling at B-J is that by the time he pays the fees he may only still come out with $60k for it.

I predict that the ultra rare cars will be similar in bid prices to last years. But, what do I know! If I knew how to predict the market I'd be an arbitraguer http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You want scary? Back in 1985 I bought the infamous (real) yellow/white 71 Hemicuda Convertible for the insane price of $25,000. It was the highest VIN of the 7 produced making it the last hemi convertible built by Chrysler. It needed a minor restoration at the time. People thought I was nuts, as this was twice what anyone had previously paid for an original 71 Hemicuda ragtop. After getting it in a few magazines and having my fun with the car I sold it in 1987 for $54,000 to Greg Joseph and Otis Chandler. It has been through two or three owners since then, last sale was approximatley $880,000. My wife still kids me that we could have been millionares. My response: "Honey, I would have been the millionare and never would have moved to Florida and married you if I hadn't have had that $54K. So dear, In essense, I gave up a million bucks to marry you". She appreciated the thought. Nevertheless, that car brought me good luck and with the meager money I got back then I went on to buy and restore other Hemicars. Either way I still shed a tear for that car when I remember how I beat the living daylights out of it at the 1986 Musclecar Nationals. It was never that quick anyway. The best it would do was 14.05 at 108 mph (yes it had the original motor too!) As I recall I lost to a red 4-door 425/425 four speed Biscayne. Heres a photo for old times sake. -NJSteve

Before anybody flies out to purchase # 66 you should check with the seller as I was just told that the car was apparently stolen years ago and the Owner just showed up in Arizona with the Police and got his car back. If I am wrong, beat me with a stick but I don't think I'm wrong. Wow.......update.. claimed ownership is in dispute....better off to wait on any more news until this gets sorted out........

Charlie, feel free to give the current owner my contact info, I will pm you with it. I still have two full albums of photos from that car. It's strange how cars pass in and out of your life. Way back in 1980 I was going to diesel school in Denver and saw a little blurb in an NHOA news letter about the car. Then in 1985 I met up with the owner and ended up buying the car from him. About the $$$ factor I had heard there was some trade(s) involved so money was an estimate. If you have a more accurate figure that I can give my wife I'm sure she'd appreciate it! I do still have one of the monetary offspring of that car: my 1970 Hemi 4 speed Charger R/T-SE (1 of 4 produced) I bought it right after I sold the 71 hemi ragtop in 1987. It had 12,232 miles on it at the time and now 17 years later it has 15,775 miles. It's one of the longest lasting, most satisfying relationships I've had (next to my 10 years of marriage - Wife standing over shoulder now...can't talk...)-Steve

Oh and yes that photo was at Quaker City. Were you there and did you beat me?

I'd post a larger picture but I can't seem to figure out how to reduce the size of the file without reducing the size of the photo -can anyone help?

Joe Conte asked me to kinda clear-up this post, so he won't be inundated with needless questions.
When Joe told me he hadn't thought about selling the '64 GTO until about 6 months ago, I mentioned that he must've been offered about $60K for it. Joe said it was more. I assumed that he meant 6-months ago.
When I mentioned Barrett-Jackson to him, he agreed that it would be a great venue should he decide to sell. And since he had obviously turned-down OVER $60K, I wrote that he was "looking more toward $100K".
Joe is not looking for $100K -- I merely mentioned that he'd be looking for more $$ than 60 thousand, or "more toward $100K" But those were MY words, not his.

Charley,
I dont know if this would have anything to do with the #66 car or not...last year I talked with someone on the east coast who claimed to own the #66 car and that the other was not real. I studied the one in Arizona closely, I could find nothing that would have indicated it was anything but real, looked to be very genuine to me. I did not have a chance to view the other one but I believe the owner when he said HE had the #66 car. This will be interesting to see how it all sorts out. Is it possible there were two in the US with the same VIN, one built many years back as a duplicate, and that being the one that was stolen? They may have grabbed the wrong car?

Charley,
This is how cars get a bad name, but not this time, not this one. Here is the deal. I just spoke with the owner of the car, not the Lotus Dealership, but the owner Tommy. The mutt on the east coast did not have a #66 car, he had a title that he had bought somewhere, somehow. He jumped on a plane and went out west and by manipulating the police he led them to believe his car had been stolen and he came to get it. Didnt work. While it is still being resolved, the fact remains that the owner has the factual documented background on his car all the way back to new from Hoffmans Chevrolet. The previous owner had the car fifteen years. It is no secret where these cars are at, if it was actually stolen why did this mutt wait until now to claim his so-called car instead of anytime in years prior? My guess is because it had been reported on the internet that for the first time since new the car was in the hands of a dealer, thereby it would not be such a personal issue to obtain the car illeagaly and imorally by producing a bogus title. Maybe the 400 to 500K figure being talked about was enough for him to finally grow a set of nuts, who knows, but it aint working and this car should not have to suffer the speculation that this type of crap generates. Sounds like an ass whippin is in order to me. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Actually the bozo would be facing a variety of Federal charges including but not limited to the following:
1) Conspiracy to commit ITSP (interstate transportation of stolen motor vehicle) =5 year felony
2) ITSP=10 year felony
3) Wire Fraud (because he obviously used a telephone any one point during this whole scheme) =20 year felony
4) Mail Fraud (if he used any type of mailing systen USPS, Fedex UPS) =20 year felony
5) probably Obstruction of Justice (when you lie to a Federal Investigator it's a felony) as no doubt with this kind of $$$ at issue and interstate travel involved, the Feds will be in on it. = 5 year felony

and assorted local charges such as false swearing, filing a false police report. = a couple extra years for good measure.

They should definitely make an example of this guy. Especially to show that the law is at work at these big high dollar auctions. I bet Barrett-Jackson will be pushing for a Federal investigation just to get the good will/publicity from this. -NJSteve

I have seen Charley standing next to Sudaam also. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Hey guys, on the topic of Barrett-Jackson, what's the deal with this 68 Chevelle L89 ragtop? Is this for real?

http://www.barrett-jackson.com/events/scottsdale/vehicles/cardetail_list.asp?id=175030

I noticed a few strange things, like the front fender seems to be a different shade than the doors, and the paint appears to need a buff, and the back of the hood sticks up. It says a 1,000 point show winner, is this true? Is this truly a 1 of 5 car?

We Pontiac Geeks want to know... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

The Cuda still looks nice after all these years. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe it hasn't been touched since I restored it back in 86.

Between SUPERCARS and I, we can start a nice support group for former owners of BS27R1B396774. I guess we should also invite Bill S in Wisconson who sold me the car in 85 for $25K.

But hey, whenever I feel semi down about selling it I can look in the garage at this:

"After seeing that car in my showroom for over 9 years, it pains my butt to see Charley sitting in it to. That is one car I regret selling. "
That must be why you still have it shown in your collection on your web site. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ha-Ha, that is true, as well as procrastination. Ask Dave if he'd prefer to have me take it off my web site, or if he'd prefer to sell it back to me so I could leave it on there. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif That's what happened with my Blue 69 Baldwin Motion Camaro, after it went to Kevin H, then to Steve S, and then back to me. This was without us having removed that picture too.

Charley, maybe it's time Dave started a website of his own. If he's interested, I can help out.

Won't make it to B-J this year. If you see Reggie, remind him I haven't received my baseball yet.

Kevin, there are eight 69 Yenko Novas remaining, along with a later conversion car, not 7!

Marlin, which is the 8th 427 nova? i thought Richardson's was just a 396 tri-power nova.

Just..., http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif We are talikng a 1969 L-78 Nova, complete with 3 deuces and other goodies, from Yenko Chevrolet. IMO, a Yenko SC Nova. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Kevin, 'Just' a 396 Nova? This particular Nova was a modified sYc product, with paperwork, on Vince's list, etc... I believe that Don himself remembered the car, and described it to some folks before he died. Some of the other 7 are also reportedly 'just' 396 cars, amazing what prior owners of those cars remember - and how they all get restored as 427 conversions!

The 396 Harrell Tuned '68 Novas are still Harrell cars right?

Marlin, I find it kind of interesting when I look at the exterior colors and options of the 9 Yenko Novas known to exist. 2 garnet red, 2 lemans blue, 2 rallye green, 2 fathom green and Brian's special order paint car. And, some with vinyl tops, some without, some L-78s, some transplanted 427s. A nice mixture of colors and options.

Tom, since you have seen the info on my car being a 9737 COPO/Yenko dealer traded from Yenko Chevrolet. How do you think it stands up with these Novas? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/scholar.gif

What info would that be? Even though I am not doubting it to be a non-converted Yenko, I have not seen any concrete proof. And, as with the Gibb Novas, I would consider any such car a supercar. But several folks, including some of your associates, do not consider non-converted cars Yenko SCs. Case in point is Brian Henderson's Nova as well as Rob Richardson's car.

As per "stands up", I am assuming price. Which, the '69 Yenko Novas seem to be in a league of their own, with the last one to change hands for $275,000.00+.

Don't you consider Cunneen's verification proof? Unlike the Novas, the 68 Camaros were COPOS that were to be specificly converted. I would think it much easier to verify these 68s than the Novas? Who verified your Yenko Nova? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

As I said, I am not doubting your car, nor am I doubting Ed. Just have not seen Ed's paperwork.

As per my Nova being sold at Yenko Chevrolet, Canonsburg, I have a document from the NICB. How equipped, through Vince Emme and prior owners.

I have been told that a NICB report will stand up in a court of law, so to me, the best way to document where a car was sold new. That is why I have gotten a NICB report on all 3 of my '69 Yenkos.

I don't know if NICB will stand up in a court of law or not? I have seen on at least two occasions where they were wrong. If anyone wants to see the Verification I have from Cunneen they are welcome to it. It is the same thing that I e-mailed you. I also have the best proof "I'm the orignal owner" you can put that in quotes http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif

3) randy millers former fathom green/ black vinyl top car (canada) copo pete?
4) cliff ernst fathom green/ black vinyl top car
5) kevin hand rallye green/ black vinyl top car
6) keith hutson rallye green former reggie jackson car
7) tom clary lemans blue car
8)yenko Bart lemans blue car
1969 396 Yenko Nova's
1) brian henderson's black car original corvette bronze car

Kevin, in an earlier thread, you had some concerns about Yenko Bart's car. Any new info?.

Mis-count, no problem, as you know, the '69 Novas are hard to track, as most times they stay "below the radar".

As per 396 vs 427, I guess that depends on who we tend to believe, as Vince has been quoted as saying that at least a couple of the 427 cars on your list are really 396s.

All in all, IMO, really does not matter , as any '69 big block, solid lifter Nova from Yenko is "super".

Rob Richarson's car sounds vey interesting! I never remember hearing anything about it. Was the tri power installed at Yenko and was it supposed to be a converted car?
