For those of you that look forward to the ativities at the drag strip (like I do!), we've got a special treat for you!

As usual, we'll have Gateway International rented for the Supercars to make unlimited passes (barring any rain delays!) at the drag strip. But, we'll also be hosting an actual racing event, for "Modified Production" cars. This new class was put together by Pure Stock racers, with the "Supercars" being the "blueprint" for the type of cars they are after. Factory stock cars with a couple of mods thrown at them, just like what would have happened back in the day: headers (through mufflers), period wheels, good tires, etc. Should be LOTS of fun, and add even more action to Friday's activities.

For those wanting more info about the "MP", check the MP FORUM (http://www.v8buick.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=36), or read the MP RULES (http://www.yenko.net/attachments/67889-mp_rules.doc).

I peeked at the rules and didn't notice any exemptions to the roll-bar rules. It actually seemed to be 'skirted-around' w/ the scattershield @ 11.49 rule in effect. I've just seen so much press lately about the F.A.S.T. times and having to sandbag (like SS racing in '69) until eliminations. Personally, I'd like to see the NHRA make an amendment to the rules for this particular type of racing as the times are below their limits for rollbars. Maybe some sort of legal waiver is in order for this particular class? Hey, if drag boat events can occur, http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif there should be plenty of room for a well developed/monitored F.A.S.T. class.

Well, I can GUARANTEE one thing, and that is that at no time will exemptions or waivers be given regarding safety limits. The NHRA/IHRA safety limits are there for a reason, and neither the track, nor sanctioning body, nor ANY insurance carrier, would consider an exemption...not in the litigation-happy world of today. One of the occuring themes of the MP class from the very beginning was "safety, and I honestly can't see them fudging on it now. FAST is seriously considering slowing the cars down for this very reason, and ironically enough a couple of the latest articles on the FAST class has brought up the safety issue. Just a sign of the times...
