View Full Version : Just saw Don Yenko on Speedchannel
I'm watching 24hrs Daytona race and they show a clip of Daytona 1962. Saw Don Yenko run to his Corvette in the LeMans style start, fire it up, and take off. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Cool JoeC . . . It was a clip on Sterling Moss . . . I saw the clip too. There were a lot of Corvettes in the 1962 race.
What a cool race to watch . . . too bad they are not going to show the night racing throughout the evening. If anyone is into road racing, that event is a must see race. Watching the race up high around the end of pit row is the best view. After watching those cars running the whole track it still amazes me that NASCAR doesn't run the infield and oval at the same time. WHAT a race that would be if they did. Much better than the NASCAR race there I think, except for the first ten and last ten laps of the Daytona 500 though. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif
I been watching it on and off yesterday then again this morning. Dale Jr just got back in the (leading) Citco Crawford Chevy. Tony Stewart was flying in it in the rain which they said must be his dirt track experience because he never drove in the rain before at Daytona.
Matt, does Dale jr show any interest in the ZL1 Camaros? At one time he had a hot rod 69 Camaro.

JoeC,
Yes he does. They almost got one but decide not to. It was too close to Dales death, but now we are talking again about maybe upfitting one of their Intimidator SS's with a 427. Dale Sr. would be driving in one right now, I bet . . .
On a side note . . . The winning car's motor is a C5R race block built by our engine shop. They only build LS1 dirived motors for GMMG and Bell Motorsports (along with all their Busch Motors they build). They share the same parts and technology with the two motor programs, GMMG and Bell. In fact, late last season, we sold Bell Motorsports one of our 427 Race Cases because GM was out and we had a few. SO, they said they owe me one if I sell them one. I asked them to put a GMMG sticker somewhere on their car . . . I think I saw it under the much larger Kodak sticker . . . http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif
