View Full Version : The Greatest Day of my Life

On 3-1-04 at 12:30am a life long dream came true. A 1970 Yenko Deuce Nova was delivered to my home on a trailer from New York. A lot of you already know about the deal and have helped me in many ways and I appreciate it and thank you all for keeping it under wraps till now. This was a very hectic and nerve wracking deal with twists, aggravation, and deceit all along the way. I am just glad that it is all over and that the seller was a true man of integrity. I know I am not accepting an Oscar but I feel the need to thank a few people publicly. Some of you have multiple supercars but like Mr. Tom Clary told me on the phone yesterday you will never forget your first!
First I would like to thank Ken Schoenthaller (schonyyenko) the original Deuce king who if not for him I absolutely would not have this car. I had been talking with Ken for a few months and after missing a few Ken was nice enough to give me the lead on this Deuce. Ken I thank you and am forever in your debt. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif
Of course no Deuce find/purchase story would be complete without thanking Marlin Spotts for his help, counseling, and information in regard to this Deuce. I really am thankful that there is someone like you in the hobby that tirelessly researches and helps people with these cars and to think he does it for free for his love of the hobby. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif
Next I would like to thank my friends Joey Barr and Steve Sandlin for keeping me in line and my head cool while this whole ordeal was taking place. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
Last but certainly not least I would like to thank Mr. Tom & Rob Clary for all there help. I would not AT ALL have as much knowledge about muscle cars/supercars if it were not for these two gentleman and the sYc. Tom please reserve a spot for me at SCR7 and I will definitely be racing the Deuce till she's broke! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif
Now about the car! The car is the 75th car produced and has the YS# of 42. It was sold out of Loehmann Chevrolet Waterbury, Conn. The car is listed in the Yenko inventory and has an inventory sheet from GMAC to Loehmann with the vin#'s of mine and three other Deuces that they received. It is Cranberry Red, Black stripes, M21 4 speed, & 4.56 rear. The car was purchased by the previous owner in 1994 and was restored by him in 1995-1996. It looks to be a mostly correct resto with a lot of the correct components like tach, front seat, shifter, rubber mat, manifolds, smog, lacquer paint, spiral shocks, etc. The car has not been driven on the street since resto but has had its fair share of time on the race track. The car was raced at many tracks including the organized Muscle Car Review COPO/Yenko race that they had in I think 1998. The previous owner tells me that the car ran a best of 13.40 on Wide Ovals with manifolds, and smog. I hear that he raced against COPO PETE? Pete do you have any other info that you can provide me? The car was also featured in the American Muscle Car episode on Speedvision about the COPO cars. It is the only Deuce featured in the video. The car was also shot for an upcoming issue of Hemmings Muscle Machines and from what the seller tells be it will be a great spread complete with a smokey burn out shot! The car does have a correct motor and the block does have the correct serial # stamped in it but I have no idea if it is the original engine. The car is 34 years old so who knows what has happened in that time.
The car is one bad MF! I drove it this morning to give it a bath and she moves! The power especially with the 4.56 rear snaps your neck into the back seat. I am definitely going to swap out the gear but it is going to tear me up whether I am going to day 2 her or not. (most likely not) Sorry about the long winded post but now I am going to post some pics.

I don't know why some deals require a case of Tums to be consumed before they are done but you are the Winner it is in your garage. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Congrats Frank!!!! I can finally tell you that since I had to keep my mouth shut! Is it safe to assume that the Chevelle will be staying home? Hope so. I know how bad you wanted the car and have worked hard for it. Enjoy! There are only a few of us non-supercar owners left. Guess I better get off my butt and do something about that! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Sorry for the quality of the pics. They look like crap. The car looks better in person than in the pics. I know thats a first! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
The gear is going to be changed because I like to drive my cars and it would be hard to go anywhere with that type of gear. Oh BTW Dennis, NO WHITE WALLS! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif Hmmmmmm...how about some wide Goodyears with some slots....
The closest that white walls will get to this car will be when a Gobi Beige Deuce is next in the staging lanes at SCR7, untill the last thing he sees are my tail lights! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

Frank!!!
You are very, very welcome, I appreciate the comments, and am glad that it all worked out in the end.
You have a very good car there, and it can run the number to boot! Did you receive the information about your original owner, or prior owner? I just spoke with the prior owner last weekend, but I'm not sure of the exact name of your original owner. Neal got that info via a title search, and he is alive and well in CT. We'll get you hooked up with them.
As for SCR7, better bring your wood screws along http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I just saw that car racing COPO Pete's on the SPEED channel this past weekend, it's a tape worth buying - also had Brian's yellow yenko camaro, his dad's turbo z, and lots of yenko camaro burnout shots - I wonder who.....

I'll also copy some of my pics I took of your car when it was just hours from being finished. I met Neal and his son Chris in Binghamton, NY at 1:00am on a Saturday night in April of '97. Dennis,
all the debates that have taken place on this site lately must have you gun shy. I admit it.......it's true. Nothing runs like a big block especially when in a big car. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif The fact that of the over 100 cars I have owned that only two were small blocks should have nothing to do with that. The trophy from the Yenko Deuce Registry, that would be kind of neat. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif
Not for sure if you would want Rob, he might be trying to squeese a big block in there. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

Frank,
CONGRATULATIONS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am very happy for you!!!!!!!!
What a beautiful car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had heard from a few of your close friends that they were helping someone find a car. They never said who or what car but when I saw your post, it all came together. I am so very happy for you!!!!! Know there are some mighty fine people "out there" who think very highly of you.
Your post was a joy to read. What a pleasure it was to have you share your excitement, delight and enthusiasm over your new "baby"! It sure brought back some very wonderful memories for me. And your "lengthy" post....heck, at least you could type....I can give you the name of a guy who stood and cried for more than half an hour when a particular car he had just purchased rolled off the trailer! Thank you for sharing your moment with us. People such as yourself make this site as special as it is.

The mags and redlines will go on it next week, when I get back home. Then I'll feel better about driving it a bit. The car arrived just as I was leaving town for the week, so I'll tighten up the dusty tire tread first thing Sunday. The Kelsey-Hayes "Strippers" are going on the DH Camaro too. They turned out VERY NICE!

I'll drive it once in a while. I'm having an exact duplicate hood made, and Brian sold me a set look-alike Mags with Redlines so I won't be a nervous wreck when I drive it out on the streets of LV. It probably won't log 100 miles a year, but driving it a little is the right thing to do, IMO. Maybe line it up with Shor's BY Yenko Chevelle or Belair's blackie at SCR7. Rob drives too good to mess with him http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

LVCamaro,
Good to see Joe's Chevelle go to a good home, congratulations. There is some neat history about the 5 Chevelles that Dick made in 1968. I still remember the day at the 2002 SYC reunion when Dave Libby stood over that engine compartment. It was a moment frozen in time. He had not seen the car since it left the shop. I bet a good forensic fingerprinter could find Dick and Daves fingerprints somewhere on that car. Unless Joe and Brian went crazy with the detail brushes. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
