I don't recall the name, but almost all the Flemington dealers are owned by 1 big company.

I live right next to Flemington. Jeff is right: a mega dealer bought up all the dealers in town a few years back. Not to fear though, I'll check with my old-timer mechanic. he knows all the old gossip. Do you have a car from there? If so what? He knows all the old street racers from days of old! -NJSteve

Yes, I have a 69 L-78 Pace car that was sold there new. See if anyone around there remembers the car. Thanks
Uh Oh John....
You've aquired a new car.
What did you sell to make room for it..Please don't say it was the LS6.
I never got to see it! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

My auto mechanic pal said that there were several chevy dealers in the Flemington area 30+ years ago. The one you may be thinking of was probably in Ringoes, NJ. a neighboring town of Flemington. He is an old time hot rodder and works on everybody's cars in the area, from Hemis to Chevies to Fords. He actually lives next door to the former owners of that Ringoes area Chevy dealer. He will be happy to talk to you about whatever you need. His name is Al and he owns Als Auto Care Center in Flemington. For anyone else in the Central NJ area, I highly recommend him for repair work on musclecars as well as newer stuff. (He works on our minivan whenever my wife breaks it) The garage number is (908) 782-7442. He just bought a 41 Plymouth with a 392 Hemi and is probably working on it right now!

Hi Steve, Al is really a nice guy and really seems to enjoy cars himself. He said Taylor Chevy moved about 3 times and in 69 was right down the block from his shop. The building is still there but is now a strip mall. He found out the name of the new car sales manager in 69 and is going to contact him to see if its ok to give me his number. I also was wondering if maybe my car could have been used at Flemington Speedway as there Pace car in 69. I see in 71 they used a plum crazy purple conv. Challenger. Steve thanks again.

Flemington Speedway closed down 2 years ago and will soon be another strip mall http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif. I recall seeing that 71 pace car driving around town about 3 years ago. It sold to someone locally who then sold it to another collector and so on... It still had its lettering on the sides. As for anything prior to that car, Al would be the best source, or the dealer guy of course. If you want some pictures of the old track, its still there. I could park my Z11 on it and we can both lie and say it was your car in 69 http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Both Al and I live about 5 minutes from the track. -Steve

I stopped in and spoke with the caretaker of whats left of Flemington Speedway on thursday the 20th of May. The speedway guardrails were taken down recently and sold to an Amish group in PA for recycling pruposes. There is not much left of the track either. The place will be a Lowes hardware store and stripmall soon. We were looking for a backdrop to shoot my Charger at the time. I asked the old guy about the likelihood of your Z11 being the pace car for the track back in 69. He told me that all the pace cars over the years were Dodges until relatively recently when they went to Fords. That pretty much closes the case on the Camaro as pacecar there. This guy was about 70+ years old and remembered way back to the 1950s. I have his card if you are interested. -NJSteve

Ok I know I am pulling up a very old thread, but my NCRS package arrived today and I just found out my 69 L78 Pace car came from the same dealer with a production date of 4/28/69 what are the chances of a local dealer having (2) L78 pace cars?
I am also looking for any more information from this dealer/dealer items/trunk embleme ect and trying to trace back my original cars owner- I have it traced to a Richard Grubb Jr who owned it in 1974 and lived in Lansdale PA
Any help is sincerely appreciated
Regards,
Fred

Thanks Pete!
I had just seen that myself and bought it
Now on to the search for emblems and dealer plates- my car still had all of its original paint when I bought it and there was no dealer emblem, holes in rear panel or sticker in the glove box- so I am not sure how they identified the cars that they sold- does anyone know- and I will call your friend NJ Steve if he can provide any info.

My local mechanic friend, Al here in Flemington knows all the history here. Don't know if the owner of Taylor Chevy is still around (he was a few years ago).
And the former site of Taylor Chevrolet that was a strip mall was torn down a couple years ago and is now a pharmacy.
