Have you always held your leftist leanings or have you been indoctrinated by your liberal professor(s)? Studies have proven then 85% of college profs are liberal and lean to the left.

The percentage of poor people in this country is the same today as in the '60's when LBJ started the "Great Society" social programs. Trillions of dollars later the poor are still with us. Most people who are poor are that way because of poor life choices: drugs, alchol, babies out of wedlock, hanging around with the wrong crowd(getting arrested), divorced(married a scumbag or scumbagee when told not to), don't save money, dropping out of school, no responsibilty etc etc etc etc. Why can't leftist liberals just come to the realization that some people are just hopeless causes and no matter what you do for them the result will still be the same??

I noticed that one of the most popular shirts among Gen Y's has a slogan "Only old people vote". I also saw a comment by a young lady recently that said she did not vote because none of the issues affect her. This girl does not have a clue. The medicare R/X bill and other cradle to the grave programs are not going to affect her??? I really feel sorry for your generation. When the baby boomers hit retirement age your generation is going to be taxed so heavily to pay for SS & medicare bills you will never be able to afford a '69 Camaro. Plus your SS retirement age will probably be raised to 70+ and your benefit will be means tested if you get it at all.

It is also a irony that most leftist/marxist/socialist groups are in bed with the environmental groups and share many of the same views. People control through mass transit and loss of private vehicles ownership is just one belief held by both groups. Why you would associate your views with them is beyond me. Boy you never will get your '69 Camaro.

Final comment: Why have all communist governments failed?? Name one that been a success. And don't give me that crap about it was not true Marxism. Even most Socialist countries have been a failure and most are going to free enterprise and private ownership i.e. Swden, Norway, India, Ireland,Scotland, Switzerland etc. Look at India. Up to 1992 it was one of the most Socialist countries in the world and was a buacratic nightmare. This is one reason the country had a Brain drain. One drug maker said a drug that would take 2-3 years to get aproval in the US would take 12-15 years in India. They have since embraced private ownership/capitalism and they have been gaining a busting economy.

I would like to see how you feel 10 years from know when 60-70% of your paycheck goes to pay social programs.

Right on the money Dave! There was a saying when I was in college due to all of the liberal, fully tenured, all-knowing profs: 'Those who can, do, those who can't, teach'. That might be a good reason why somebody would leave the Carribean to teach - especially Sociology; a baseless required course if I've ever seen one!

Socialism invites Communism, and it doesn't attack - it starts from within due to liberals who feel that everybody is owed the same in society. BS. Pull your pants up, keep your head up, and work your @ss off - that's how you get ahead. Entitlements don't work.

(Tom Williams was apparently having a similar discussion when I called one night http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif )

1. I have always held to my liberal side, despite the fact that most professors are liberal. Studies are always biased; that is one of the first things we learned in Sociology. Granted many studies may lead to an overall conclusion, don't take those studies as fact. In essence, don't believe everything you hear, read etc.

2. The percentage of poor people is not the same. That is fact. This also depends on where you draw the line for poor people . . . the line keeps changing to keep the percentage the same, that's how it's set up.

3. I know! This sucks . . . My generation is going to be the first generation where we don't have it as good or better than our parents or grandparents; we're gonna have it worse.

4. I prefer to try and not associate myself with any particular party, but if I had to, I would definitely be liberal. Despite myself being liberal, I still have my own views on things, such as still being able to own as many guns as you want, cars as you want, etc. Likewise, funding for mass transit was cut after WWII, so that people would have to buy their own vehicles. Not to sound sneeky, but the govt. wanted this to boost the economy.

5. Socialism has failed, and will never work, I agree. I have no doubt that capitalism is the way to go, but there are still flaws in the system. Now that I reread my post, It seemed like I sounded a little Communist/Socialist myself, but that is NOT THE CASE! I agree with some points. I disagree with some points. What do you want me to tell you? All I can tell you is what I'm thinking.

6. I have a feeling that before that much of a % goes to my paycheck, there will be some sort of "revolution" in one way or another. Either the system will fail, or there will be an uprising . . . or so I hope http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

7. I agree with the entitlement crap, but you should be entitled to what your family has worked for you to have; i.e. funding for a college education.

8. Why the hell are we talking about this anyway? I get enough of this garbage in class; I don't think I need any more. It was fun while it lasted, but I'm gonna stop talking now.

Next time you have something to say, please be curtious enough to spell my name right. I likewise you should be entitled to a correct spelling.

Most of the "big guys" I know, started out as "little guys", working their tails off to acquire some of the finer things in life. And most remember those days and will do what ever they can to help the next "little guy", as long as that little guy is willing to help himself. I saw this happen in our hobby a couple of weeks ago. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Just one more thing,

I agree, MOST little guys worked their asses of to get where they are, unlike G.W. Bush.

Yeah, that's right! Take that!

Ole Georgie there got into college because of his father's connections. Some good that did him; he flunked out.

Likewise Bush got off of drug charges (I can't remember, but I think it was Cocaine) because his dad had money.

What is this world coming to?

I know that you wanted this topic to end, but you're saying so many things that seem contradictory that I can't even see straight!!!! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

First off... If you believe that our generation (I'm only 33) is going to be the first one to have it worse than our parents, then you're not doing something right. Many of my friends, my brother and my wife and I are all doing considerably better than our parents were when they were our respective ages (home ownership, job success, money, cars, toys, etc...) Just check out some of the recent posts about young members getting some of the greatest cars ever made! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Application of ones self and your talents/skills are the key to individual success. Learn not to expect to have/afford what someone two or three times your age has. I love hanging around this board and checking out the cars, but you'll notice that there's no COPO/YENKO etc.. in my signature. I choose to play within my current means, because that's what I can afford. Should I hold this against anyone? HELL NO!!! One day I plan to have one of those great cars (but I know that I've got to work my ass off to get it).

As far as "revolution" goes, if you want to see things in our country continue to spiral out of control on a moral and social level hold tight to your liberal views and ideals. If you really believe that revolution crap you espouse than check a single box in November (Republican).http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/scholar.gif

No one is entitled to anything except their opinion. People work as hard as they desire to get what they want. Those that choose not to work as hard don't get as much as those that achieve. I thought the student with the 4.0 GPA analogy was perfect. What's satisfactory for one person may not be for another, that's why God made us individuals.

Hope you're not too disappointed with the responses from the "corporate rich" (anyone that makes $40,000 or more annually). http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Don't put yourself in the position of attacking people who are more fortunate than yourself. It won't help you in the long run. You need to think from the point of view of how can you acquire what you want in life. Set realistic goals and find a way to achieve it. I've always wanted a 69 ZL1 Camaro from the first day I learned about them. I knew I would never really achieve that so I found something that I liked and was within reach. Then if you work hard, make some good investment decisions and have a little bit of good luck, you might be able to acquire what you thought you couldn't. The hardest part is learning where not to waste your money and time. No matter what, at the end of the day you need to sit back and relax to get a fresh prospective on things. OK, break time is up, get to work!

Excellent points Blair. I would add one thing: achieving more than our parents extends beyond material posessions. I for one, place a much higher value on a good marriage and time with the family in place of multiple homes, cars, yada yada... Nobody lays on their death bed and says; 'I wish I would have spent more hours at the office', or 'I wish I had bought some more garage space for my SuperCars'. So, work hard to satisfy your needs, and keep your wants and your family responsibilities in balance http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'm sorry for the misinterpretation, I meant my generation (I just turned 19).

I'm not satisfied with Bush's views on things . . . I'll hold to the Democrats for now.

The Hard Truths About Liberals.

1. At the most basic level, the liberal is an adolescent forever in search of a world without moral consequence.

2. Freedom from moral consequence can only be secured by a collectivist, totalitarian state.

3. The liberal religion reveres the twin gods of genitals and government, and is overseen by a priesthood of psychologists.

4. "Freedom" to the liberal is strictly freedom of the genitals.

5. All non-sexual individual freedoms are despised by the liberal because they demand moral responsibility.

6. The fundamental power struggle of the liberal is individual v. collective. The individual must be relieved of all power in favor of the collective.

7. Individualism demands moral responsibility. Collectivism hopes to eliminate the need for moral responsibility.

8. The U.S. Constitution - specifically the individualistic Bill of Rights - is the enemy of the liberal.

9. The liberal despises the United States because it is the premier gaurantor and promoter of individualism in the world.

10. All institutions and concerns - schools, environment, courts, etc. - serve no relevant purpose other than the promotion of collectivism.

11. Abortion is necessary to gaurantee genital freedom and eliminate moral consequence.

12. The basis of psychology is the elimination of moral responsibility.

13. The liberal must create an atmosphere of crisis and fear to justify collectivist oppression.

14. Any religious person who believes or promotes moral consequence is the enemy of the liberal and must be oppressed.

15. Despite decades of spectacular failure, the liberal clings to the collectivist dream because it is far more than a theory of government. It is a religion.

17. The liberal seeks to dominate any institution which can weaken or destroy individual parental rights - public schools, child abuse agencies, pediatric associations, etc..

18. The liberal applauds the imprisoning of homeschooling parents who dare to raise their children outside the control of collectivist public schools.

19. Private ownership of guns is the single greatest symbol of individual power, and therefore despised.

20. All individual freedoms demand the responsible behaviour of the individual, and therefore demand a moral code. Liberals despise freedom because they despise morality.

21. The liberal loves Bill Clinton because of who he is, not in spite of who he is.

22. The liberal despises national sovereignty which protects individual freedoms.

23. The liberal promotes international governments (UN, EU, etc.) which seek to destroy individualism protected by sovereign states.

24. The liberal fears any hint of individualism in any part of the world, and is obsessed with the centralized control of all human activity and thought.

25. "Multi-culturalism" is the code world for a single, oppressive, collectivist culture.

26. Liberals speak often of tolerance, but only tolerate liberals.

27. The liberal seeks to criminalize any speech which promotes morality or individualism as "hate speech".

28. Environmentalists lie as a matter of course.

BUT: I do beleive that there is some great wisdom in these (11) thoughts. They are more to the point of the real world. You only get what you work for. Set on your ass and you will not have much. Young guys have a hard time understanding what we the older generation have seen as we grew up.

In Bill Gates' new book Business @ The Speed of Thought, he lays out eleven rules that students do not learn in high school or college, but should.

He argues that our feel-good, politically correct teachings have created a generation of kids with no concept of reality who are set up for failure in the real world.

RULE 1 - Life is not fair; get used to it.

RULE 2 - The world won't care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.

RULE 3 - You will NOT make 40 thousand dollars a year right out of high school. You won't be a vice-president with a car phone, until you earn both.

RULE 4 - If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss. He doesn't have tenure.

RULE 5 - Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your grandparents had a different word for burger flipping, they called it opportunity.

RULE 6 - If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault, so don't whine about your mistakes, learn from them.

RULE 7 - Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you are. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parents' generation, try "delousing" the clothes in your own room.

RULE 8 - Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life has not. In some schools they have abolished failing grades; they will let you try as many times as you want to get the right answer.
(This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.)

RULE 9 - Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you find yourself. Do that on your own time.

RULE 10 - Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to their jobs.

RULE 11 - Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.
__________________________________________________ _
Believe in your self and if you have a dream then don't let someone talk you out of it. They are usually jealous of you and that they didn't come up with the idea or are too lazy to work for what they want out of life.

My Mother was a great infuence on me. She told me once that from what she had seen going through the depression that "Real estate ownership will never let you down. You can live in it cheaper than renting and if times get too bad then you can alway rent it out. Just don't ever be in debt on it any longer than necessary. Once it is paid for you will never be totally broke, no mater what the economy does."

Now those were words of wisdom from someone that was 50 yrs old at the time and had a high school education.

I would like to point out that you will learn something new, everyday for the rest of your life. You will learn much from places you would not expect and little from places that you expect much from.

Be like the sponge and asorb all you can and if it doesn't seem right to you then use your judgement. When I was first in business, I foolishly listened to my Banker tell me that I could not afford the commerical property that I wanted to buy instead of renting. He told me that I would be a fool to buy it for $80,000 when I was only paying $400 per month rent. Two years later I had to pay $103,000 for the same property. I had a offer on it, 6 years later for $400,000.

Now you expect your banker to know more about things like that than you do. I should have followed my heart and my dreams and I would have saved the extra years of rent I had to pay and would have owned the property sooner.

Like Bill Gates said "Be nice to the Nerds you may be working for one someday"

I would like to add my favorite little ditty that is posted on the wall of my office.

"There are three kinds of people in the world!

Those that MAKE things happen..!

Those that WATCH things happen..!

And those who WONDER what happened..????

After I read it, I ask myself??

WHICH one do you want to be???

I am convinced that most of the guys on here are of the first part of it that make things happen. Learn to run with that kind of person all your life and it will pay off someday.

Climbing down off my soapbox now. Hope I didn't offendend anyone? Was not mny intent.

S***, you know what, I didn't come here to argue this crap. I already hang out at 4 political boards, and argue this stuff until I want to slice my own head off. So let's relate this to cars. So..

The liberals in government have tried to destroy the auto industry in this country for decades. and by the late 1970's, they had almost accomplished it. Poniac and Oldsmobile were two potential victims, as well as Chrysler, and nobody seems to realize how close Ford came to total destruction, but let's limit this to vintage cars, which we all know the left despise. What would happen if they got their way, and all the old cars were crushed or, in the EPA's parlance, "deactivated"? The aftermarket performance and restoration market is a multi-BILLION dollar a year industry. What would happen to the economy if this industry dried up over night? The blow to this country's economy would be catastrophic. Hundred of thousands of people out of work. And it would not just effect the companies that are directly involved (i.e. Holley, Year One, Goodmark, Edelbrock, etc.), it would effect peripheral businesses as well. Can you imagine the chain reaction here? Liberals never look to the long run. Or if they do, they assign it no importance compared to the environment. Much the same as our loss of manufacturing jobs. How many plants did Chrysler operate in this country in 1970? How many have moved to Mexico and Canada in the last thirty years. Why? If the Big Three had to update all these plants every year, per EPA regulation, they would go bankrupt. So, once again, the party that truly "cares" about the working man does everything in it's power to screw him over.

Ok, now I'm officially sick of this topic.

Marlin, your point about the importance of a good family relationship is top of the heap (can't believe I missed it). After all, if it weren't for the wonderful (and understanding) woman and family I have I certainly wouldn't be enjoying my cars. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

Yeah, I need a stiff drink.

God damn liberals-- crushing our cars. Yeah, I said it. I told you I have different views on everything, which is why I don't like to affiliate myself with a political party.

You're right, all those auto companies, and resto companies provide for an aweful lot of jobs for people, which is why I can't figure out why liberals want to do away with classic cars . . .

Probably because they think they're all smog machines.

I have my own views; that's why I don't like to associate myself with one particular party.

Some Liberals are idiots, others are not, some Conservatists are good, others are not.

Maybe I should just join the green party http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

But there is another point to consider here, besides the economy, although that is the most important consideration in all this. Look, America started out as a nation of immigrants, but it isn't any more. I was born here, and I'm willing to bet most everybody else on this board was too. I hear people say that in the grand scheme of things, these cars aren't that important, and, compared to staying alive and feeding your kids, they aren't. But, we are no longer an English colony. We are our own country, with our own culture, lifestyle, and history. Which these cars are a big part of. And if they are all gone, we lose that history. For good. They cannot be replaced. These cars represent our country, and our past, and they could not have existed anywhere else in the world. British and especially Italian factory hot rods were priced out of range of the average person. But not in the good ol' USA. I read once that the factory muscle car wars were the greatest non-military competitive effort in history. EVER. If we crush all these cars, there is no reason at all to stop there. Let's just go ahead and light the Smithsonian on fire while we're at it. And who needs the Museum of Natural History? Or any museum, for that matter. Let's just get rid of every museum in the nation, even the tiny backwoods ones that only deal with the little, half-dead town they are located in. That is what is being advocated here. I don't just love these cars because they're fast and they look good, I love them because they are more than that. They are our country's history. Mom, apple pie, Chevrolet, and all that.

OK, I'm done now.

Anyone see my hip waders?

Folks have got to learn to quit blaming others for the problems we face. I know it's easier to say the other guy did it than it is to own up to the fact that we all did it!! Funny the folks with the balls to accept the responsibility that comes with being an elected official has to take the blame for everything. To listen to some folks an elected official that dips his noodle in the wrong sauce is on the same level as Hitler or some other mass murderer!!

As part of a community, a very small minority of us are willing to subject ourselves to being attacked in an effort to make a difference. A very large majority seem to sit back and spew all the things that the minority are doing wrong... Folks if you want to see solutions you have to admit to being part of the problem. This divide and conquer, us vrs them, lib vrs consvt, dem vrs rep stuff has to stop.

We play election games and rally behind the person or party we feel will do the best job and represent us. Then if our guy wins we go back about our business. If our guy looses we set out to undermine and sidetrack everything the winner does so our guy has a better chance next time. Come on guys, be smarter than that!! Doesn't matter which side of the fence you are on using logic and reasoning should tell you you can't let your emotions get the best of you. We are all in this together divide and conquer won't solve anything.... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif

That is all well and good, but why is it that the 'elected officials' themselves don't ever want to shoulder their share of the responsibility either? There is a good reason whey politicians are among the three most distrusted of occupations. 'Dipping the noodle' is but the tip of the iceberg with several politicians - whether they be Dem/Rep, that doesn't instantly make them communists. The multi party system provides the balance to prevent our capitalism from sliding into socialism.

I agree with you that the local community leader takes more heat than the pres, just ask some mayors that are on here http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

the good thing about it all is you have the right to your veiws and opinions as well as the rest of the folks in here. my wife is liberal, left wing radical whatever you want to call it. we discuss matters all the time in a civilized manner. discussions like this are good. the facts are what matters, insulting ones positions or veiws will not accomplish anything (not saying YOU have done this). i used to follow what goes on with our political leaders from the ones running for my city counsel to the presidency. since the clinton years i vote republican straight across the board no matter whos running, i think the democratic party has gone so far to the left they leave me no choice.

Politicians are humans like everyone else. Put yourself in their shoes for a minute. You just won an election by a narrow margine where only 50% of those that can vote did. Now you have to go about an already tough enough job and you find out 75% of the folks you work for don't support what you set out to do. It's a wonder anything gets done!!

Then we are all two faced with respect to morals and such. A sports figure or rock star sleeps with 10,000 partners and is a hero, it's acceptable, the guy is on the road and has needs!!! The CEO of a big company buys call girls for his business contacts to win the big deal and it's acceptable too, even uncle bob who has a certain charm with the ladys is still looked on as a family hero of sorts... Let an elected official (not just Bill) fall prey to temptation and he's a sinner and has hurt everyone so deeply!! Guys put on beer goggles and the selection starts looking better real quick. Gals use power and fame as their beer goggles... It's easy to resist from across the room but have a gal wave her tail under your nose and pur at you. Temptation gets real hard to resist!!

I would never suggest doing away with the political system we have, I just think once the election is over we need to support whoever ends up in office. The best plans don't work if the other party throws out too many road blocks and that's exactly what happens... A good idea doesn't have a chance to get off the ground. That's where I'm going with the divide and conquer. I can enter my car in a show and loose to my buddy and I have nothing but good to say about him and his car. I played ball for years and compete against friends and win or loose we still had beers after the games. A far cry from an election but if conservitaves had respect for liberals and vise versa we'd all be a lot better off. To put the blame for the economy on one mans sholders or even the party he represents is foolish. We tend to do just that and it doesn't matter what the problem, if you're unemployed it's the other guys fault. Gas prices too high, ya, we can blame them for that too... Immigration, Ya he caused those problems too and chased business out too!! Just easier to cast blame and down a beer than to get involved and work to making a change...

Sorry for the rant but this whole political views and opinions thing doesn't sit well, if your not part of the solution your part of the problem. I'm may not agree 100% with some former and current elected officials but I'm proud of each and every one for stepping up and doing a job I don't want!! In many ways they are like our military forces and police and fire fighters. They are all doing the dirty jobs so we can enjoy freedoms that come with being an American. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/flag.gif
