I Think About Cars Every Day

For me, every day is a new day to think about my passion of cars. I truly live and breathe cars; have ever since I was a kid. I used to hang by my daddy's side every time he'd go to his buddy's body shop. They'd drink a few, shoot the breeze, and talk cars. These were my first encounters of dirt track cars that his buddy built, as well as, drag cars.In my teens I continued to visit various shops run by my dad's buddies, even helping out from time to time. One of my dad's closest body shop buds even did my first car for me, for a measley 300.00 dollars. I still have that first car. I keep it, just as it was, when I was 16, looking at it from time to time, with truly sentimental eyes. I am now 38 and coming real close to finishing a total resto on my 70 Chevelle SS. I have known this car in my hometown, since I was 14, and am proud to have it. I just recently sarted a 69 Nova and have completely redone all the drivetrain, to my specs. This was a father son project, as Ihave now brought my son up in the car hobby. Like I said I love cars. I think about them all the time. I hope my dad is happy with what I have become. I am happy with what my son "is" becoming. I work hard to provide for my family and I guess I am one of the so-called generation X people. But one thing for sure I work hard for what I have and I understand the meaning of working for what you want. I mean that passionately. I am not looking for handouts from my folks or anyone. I just want to work on cars and think about them each day, just like the day before. I like simple things. I'll leave sociollogy to the pros. Thanks for having the lounge forum just for the rambling. Very well said! I too still own my first car/Camaro I purchased back in 1984, and I have the same sentimental feelings as you have at 37 years of age. Guess we'll call this the Gen X'er forum... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/headbang.gif (36 years here) And I also still have my highschool car(albeit from my senior year in '85) and it is currently undergoing its "second" restoration since I've owned it. My kids, although young, already love to hang around Daddy when I work on it and pretend to drive the car when they get the chance. I can't wait until they get a little older. My Dad and I worked my very first car together, doing basic mechanical and body work (at age 14) and it was one of my fondest memories from that time by far! I hope my kids and I can share those moments as well.

Hey, you know it makes me happy to have these responses from you all. I am getting a great deal of satisfaction from my membership in our club. I am planning to be at this year's "Supercar Reunion". Can't wait for that. You know, my dad has always been my greatest influence in cars and in life. He and I are best friends. He's got quite a nice collection of horsepower at home, as well. Such as, 70 Nova L-78, 69 Camaro with his own transplant of a legit, late 70's crate LS-6, a V-8 Vega, 70 Mach 1 with 351Cleve., 66 Vette now with small block though originally 427. He and I go to shows locally and far off, together. I am thankful for the many blessings I have. To be making the aquaintance of you all is a nice thing for me. I should have been here long ago. Thanks to all that have welcomed me in to this site and club. p.s. Please keep my son Dustin in your thoughts as he begins his service in the Navy.

Ditto here....34 years old, still have my first car, a 72 Monte Carlo...Parents had it since 73...I grew up in that car. (Now I've owned it longer than they did...kinda scarey!)
Still have the first car I bought in high school too, 70 Monte Carlo 402 4 speed car.
Came close to selling all of them when my son was born, didn't think I'd have the time. Now I'm looking forward to the time I can spend with him on them as he gets older...he's currently 5 and chomping at the bit...(have a 71 SS454 Monte sitting in the garage waiting for that day to arrive)

I know what you mean. I had some real serious health problems in 1999 (kidney cancer) and recovery was pretty long. My wife could gauge how I was doing by my involvememt with cars. When I was really hurting, I had no car passion. As I got better, my passion for cars came back. When I drove to south Texas to buy a '67 big block and hauled it home, she new I was cured. She came home one day and I was in the garage with the car on jack stands and the tires off. The doctor had told me not to do any lifting yet and she just about took my head off.
