I have been watching the Gibb cars since 1988 when I called Fred and told him I might know of one. The car turned out to be one and I bought it. I have been following these cars before most people knew who Fred was let alone what a COPO nova was. Fred Gibb was my hero. I lived in Burlington,Ia from 1968 to 1973. Went to Beardstown and watched him race people like Tommy Johnson sr. Two gentlemen who have the 50 serial#s have helped me find the 3 cars that I have owned. Dennis Hartweg and me became good friends in the short time I got to know him. Dennis was chasing the RED race car down {the car with Fred standing by it at the dealership}. Dennis knew which car it was. Ann and I are 98% sure we know which car it is.

I am sure a lot of these 50 Novas were raced. This one very well could have been raced and maybe sent to DH. BUT, Motown . . . what race car are you talking about. DAre you referring to the fuscia colored race car (it was not red, even though it looks red in the photo) that is on the 1968 Nova model box, or the candy apple red one that was in an article with a ZL1 motor in it ?? Just tryin to figure out which one you are talking about. And is there a photo of that race car that Ed thinks it is? It will be great to find that car. I will help any way I can . . . http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

Matt, the car I'm tracing is the fuscia car the one on the box. As far as cars that were raced all my cars had been raced two of the three had roll cages in them I know of 5 cars that had cages very early in there lives. Kim http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Kim, were most of these COPO Novas late in the 68 model year? And would it be safe to assume that a bunch of them were actually raced and had mods like the rollbars added?

Jeff all the nova's were built 07a or 07b first and second week of july , They only had a 90 day warrenty so why not race it. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif
