View Full Version : Finally a Supercar Owner!!!

This has been awhile in coming, and may already be "old news" to a few of you... but now that it’s tucked away safe and sound I’d like to take this opportunity to announce to that I’ve recently become the proud owner of a Forest Green 1970 Yenko Deuce, YS#033. It has been a long time coming and I am very proud to become the owner of a real piece of Yenko history, or at least one that’s too big to fit into a glass case... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif But as anxious and excited as I am to make this announcement and to finally become the owner of a real Yenko Supercar, I’m probably just as anxious to properly thank a few good friends who helped make it all possible for me. First and foremost I’d like to thank Steve Sandlin for all his help in so many ways. Without his generosity, patience, and friendship this deal would have never come together. He put in some long hours, long phone calls, and lots of BS, and personal expense for me, and I will forever consider him a true friend. I’d also like to thank Frank Magallon, for sharing a lead on this car with me, and for putting his trust in me, while we both sat nervously as everything fell into place. There were a few restless nights for us both not long ago, but it’s just that much sweeter now that everything worked out for the best. Thanks Frankie, I can't tell you enough how much I appreciate your friendship. I must also take a moment to thank Marlin Spotts, who kept me "cool" and informed throughout this saga, and provided me with more info than I even knew was possible. I appreciate all your knowledge and info you provided me, all totally free of charge as always. I also wish to thank Tom Clary, for all of his help and support with this Deuce deal, and everything he and Rob have done here at Yenko.net, the 6 great SCRs they’ve put together, and for the sYc in general. Without their passion for the hobby, and the generous hands they’ve lent to persons of every aspect of this Supercar hobby, myself included, perhaps much of what we all eat, sleep, and breathe today may have faded off into obscurity. MUCH thanks is also due to Brian Henderson and Joe Swezey of the Supercar Workshop, two of the truest friends of mine and of the Supercar hobby. I’d like to thank them both for being so generous with their knowledge, friendship, and facilities. I'm truly privileged to have them as friends, and can't thank them enough for what they've done for me in helping to not only get the car, but to make it as mechanically sound, and correct as possible too! I'll never forget that day some 12 or 13 years ago when I stumbled upon Brian and his Fathom Green '69 Yenko at the Weekend of Wheels show’n shine right in my own back yard. I was all of about 15 years old, and needless to say that car and it's owner sparked an interest in me that I carry with me everywhere I go. Heck, it's finally led me to a green Yenko of my own, must be a first Yenko thing! I’d also like to thank my father for helping me financially with this deal, even offering to sell his OWN car to help me come up with the cash. He doesn’t own a computer, and will probably never read this, but without his help and support I’d have never gotten involved in this great hobby...Thanks dad! And last, but certainly not least, I must give credit and thanks to my kid brother Erik, who was my right hand man in this, and helped to keep my cool and get this deal done. I’m sure I’m forgetting to mention some people who have been involved in this “saga” and have supported me via e mails, PMs, and telephone calls, If I didn’t mention your name, I apologize... your help and support are greatly appreciated! Once again, I’d like to sincerely thank ALL of you for helping me out in so many ways, without the true friends that I’ve made in this hobby my dream of owning a real Yenko Supercar could never have come true. Here’s to you guys, the next round is on me.

Hey!
It's taken longer than any title search I've ever done, and more phone calls to the DMV than I thought possible, but I finally received the title search results from Maryland for Joe's Deuce and my '69 SS. I sent them back in February! You could have knocked me over with a feather when I sat down to read it, neither of our cars came from Maryland http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

Sorry for my delay in posting, I was out of town for several days and just got the news myself! Thanks to Marlin's intensive legwork and title searching, as well as some digging by myself and a few others, it turns out my car was not sold new in MD as the previous owner had believed. While the car did spend a portion of its life within 10 miles of Lustine Chevrolet in Hyattsville MD, it turns out (through a DMV title search of Maryland) that it did not start life there, and was actually originally titled in VA, and spent well over a decade in and around the Virginia Beach/Norfolk area before the title was transferred to MD. I am still making calls and attempting to contact each previous owner individually and will provide updates to everyone who may be interested. Through the title searches we have done and in talking with the owners that i have located already, I now know that the car was originally sold at Colonial Chevrolet. As you may know, Colonial was the largest sYc Network distributor, selling at least 15 of the 175 Deuces, and was located right in the heart of Norfolk VA. .. Which also means there is an unaccounted for Lustine car still out there somewhere waiting to be discovered!

Try going to the County Auditor's website for a specific county and check the tax records, which are public record.
Some counties have excellent websites due to the power of the real estate and mortgage industries. The proporty tax records are public, and God knows there is no escape from them.
Some rural counties don't have a website, but the courthouse records may have some useful information.
Thank my wife, the genealogy expert.

If you exhaust the free search engines, the next step is to pay one of the on-line bail bond companies to do a search for you. I used one successfully in Nevada to search for a previous owner of one of my past cars. Each search costs something like $25 or so. Good luck!
