LOL...that rendering isn't even close to the way it's gonna look when finished. It looks pretty crappy in that rendering, frankly, and it'll be far better in reality. Guaranteed! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

I got a feeling it will be on the road right next to that Triple Red 57 Convt that will sport the 8 Banks turbos also. Must be nice to have to figure out which car to drive on the Tour!!! Maybe every other day might work http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif

LV, on another website the question has been raised on whether its a reskinned GTO or a ground-up build up. Can you tease us with some basic info?

The car will debut on the HotRod Power Tour, June 5th. About the only resemblance that rendering has to the real car is the color. We hope to be road testing by mid-May, in preparation for the Tour. I understand that PriMedia got more than 40,000 emails from readers requesting the build, so time will tell if they'll sell the 40 units that the contract outlines. Serial #1 will get the all aluminum 454/625 engine [reflections of the '70 LS6 Chevelle] from Robert's Racing Engines, but the car will be offered with the factory LS1 as well. Price is yet to be determined, but I can assure you that Serial #1 has become quite a money pit. Carbon Fiber fenders and bodywork, some suspension/drivetrain mods and the 454/625 will make it rock!

Jeff;
It's actually a combination of existing metalwork and new carbon fiber skins [predominantly new skins and body lines]. A magnet won't stick to most of the body, when finished. Someone earlier mentioned a "sawsall", and that's pretty close to the truth of how we treated the original body. The body will have subtle resemblance to the '70 Chevelle SS. Things like the cowl hood [operational], tail lights, headlights, grill, badging and even repro Ralley SS wheels will be a part of the exterior look. The interior will remain pretty much factory, except for custom badging, shifter and instrument cluster changes. Here's a teaser shot of one of the quarters [attachment]...

Steve,
I can't wait to see the finished product. I have always said had GM brought the Monaro over and rebadged it "Chevelle", I'd buy one in a heartbeat. (My 1st car was a red '67 Chevelle Malibu.) However, I think I like this one better. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif
Incidentally, aluminum 454/625.... RamJet ZL1? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

LOL...I gotta say; I'm more than a little nervous about the schedule. I will take bets though...LOL. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif
My '57 Belair convertible is there too...in rougher shape than this Chevelle project, right at the moment. Well...maybe I will have a couple cars and a mechanic tailing the tour route. But then, I'd lose my bet with Lillard about them being ready/worthy of the 7 day trip. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/headbang.gif

Steve, Great looking car. I know the workmanship that comes out of Aloha. That is way I had Aloha do the resto. on my 2 Cuda Convs. I am sure Tommy and the guys will get it completed. I'll be looking for it here in Big D in June. Now if I can get Tommy to build me one of his new Cudas, we can go head to head. Chevy vs. Mopar

Hey Kelly,
That "new" Cuda convertible he's wanting to build is very tempting. Why don't you have him build you one of those, then we can trade off driving each other's car a couple times a year.

Steve,
-------You should have approached some of these reality filmers (AKA Orange County Choppers,Boyd C etc.). They always seem to be on a tight schedule. Its a bunch of work but you seem to have a good group on the case. We will keep our fingers crossed here in MI. for you.........Bill S

Actually I think that's pretty awesome to see this concept chevelle taking shape... Depending on what it looks like when it's done I may have a hard time keeping my sawzall in the box. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I actually have some plans for my Goat soon as the money situation looks better. RAIV hood will be the first thing. See what kind of Day 2 I can come up with for the '04.. That's what you are supposed to do with a GTO right?? That's what they did back in the day.. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif And since we ARE the second Musclecar generation we WILL carry the flag proudly... one thing you WON'T see on my GTO is any kind of "ricer" looking mods.. That is so incredible Steve.
While at a Bookstore today,I went over to see if they had the newest Chevy Hi-Performance.Two guys were reading it,and as I'm waiting for them to put it back on the shelf,so I can read it I hear one of them declare,"Hey Thats that Sandlin Guys Project!".
I guess they frequent this site.. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Steve, you really are famous. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif I was visiting with Matt Berger today and in the conversation your car came up. He was impressed with the details of your new ride. I would take that as a compliment, as Matt has owned some pretty neat rides in his day. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif Might be careful, he may try and talk Tommy out of it. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif

Thanks Tom,
