Well after the intial excitement on the Monaro/GTO here in 2002 when it was released, sales have drifted slowly down and have settled at around 150 per month. Very hard to find one in a dealer showroom anymore, and our GTOs (yes we do have them, ) are now only built to order.
We have too many hi-po cars at the moment (a XR-6 Falcon turbo with exhaust and chip enhancements cracked 192 mph, recently,) and we have Boss 5.4ltr cammer Fords, as well as Holden has its own SS, a four door commodore variant with all the Monaro gear but sells for near 10k less. Both Ford and GMH also offer these engines in our utes, similar to your old El Caminos. So the poor old Monaro has lots of competition.
If you or the arabs don't buy near 20,000 per annum, I can't see Holden perserving, though, the sustainable level for R&D etc may be as low as 10,000.
Hav'nt bought mine yet, as my LS1 c'dore still rolls along fine, and I may wait till the 6Ltr LS2 (or whatever it will be called in 2006 )
From discussions at the Melbourne Motor show with GMH engineers the LS2 should arrive in the totally new C'dore and Monaro/GTO in around mid 2006.
So guys, keep em rolling out of the showroom's over your way until then.

The reports of all their problems has me scared out of the market at the moment...

Well I've put about 1200 miles on mine so far driving it daily and I haven't had near the problems these guys have.. I've had the stereo cut off twice due to sustained high volume levels http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif and the amp getting hot.. but you just turn it off wait a min and turn it back on and it's fine.. I've had the temp shoot up one time waiting at Sonic for my food so I just shut it off.. Hasn't done it since.. The clunk noise from the rear when shifting hard has gone away in my car.. so i think it may just have been from everything being brand new needing some break in wear.. The first time I drove it it clunked real loud but now it doesn't do it at all and I've driven it alot harder than I did that first time. Other than that my new GTO is performing flawlessly and I drive it like it's mine.. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I've had it up to 140 in 5th gear without it even breathing hard and I can tell you it's as smooth as a babys butt and it's got A LOT left in it... Haven't put it to the test yet.. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/headbang.gif

140 not bad, (please tell me you were not in a built up area), they have had them up to 270kph which is around 170mph, in one our car mags annual speed tests. They are around 4 mph faster than the sedans, due to slightly lower roodline, and etc.
Don't think they changed rear gears on the manual only the auto.
Enjoy.

Sometimes I get jacked up and drive my Chevelle down Lake Shore Drive at speeds in excess of 100mph..............

Bob I was being sarcastic because GMH454 said that he hoped Ed was not in a populated area while going 140! Of course he wouldn't! How the hell can you go that fast in a populated area without killing someone or getting arrested! Just having fun with ya GMH454. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif
Some people can do that speed in about 1/4 of a mile. I bet you could do it in a populated area and get away with it. I've seen it or something close late Sunday nights down at the Philly street races http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

No.. I cranked it up to 140 on a desolate straight stretch of Oklahoma 4 lane at about 6:30 am.. Completely shocked me how easy it went that fast and how quickly especially when I wasn't even at full throttle on it (only about 300miles on the car, so I was taking it easy).. I'm used to cars running out of breath around 120.. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif 140 at part throttle in 5th gear with half sweep of the tach to go and another gear to hit.... 170? easy... And it felt like it was going 80mph.. smooth and stable.. Haven't driven anything like it before http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
