I picked up a original set of 14x7 minilite wheels at the swapmeet today. They are in like new shape but are very old. They say minilte made in england on them. I've heard these can get weak as they age. Is there any truth to this? Also, can I get an idea of value? I know I have been doing a lot of brain picking lately, I appreciate all the input and will try harder to pull my weight around here. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
Thanks again, http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Magnesium, when it gets old turns brittle and cracks easily. Minilite wheels were (I believe) made of magnesium...As to value if they were 15" I would say $750 each, being 14"...who would want them??

My 65 Shelby had a set of 14's on it and I was told by the resto shop they would be worth something if they were 15's....I think I sold them for 600.00. I think he also said that a couple years ago someone found something like a trailer load of NOS 14's and was selling them cheap.

A "REAL" magnesium wheel will form what looks like chrosion and white specs will form all over them till they turn totally white. The best way to preserve them is to spray them with WD-40 and wipe them down. You will have to do that 3 or 4 times a year to keep them looking nice and gray.
Yours are probably a blend of Alum and Mag and will not oxidize. You can tell by how light they are. I have a 17" wide wheel for the back of my Can Am car that weigh's 4lbs. This stuff is "light" but it will burn "HOT" if exposed to fire.
