I went to a small local cruise-in in Greenville SC today. There were only 15 to 20 cars there. One guy had 2 very nice cars there, a 55 Chevy with a 427 and a 67 Impala SS427 convertible. He said that it is a original 47,000 mile numbers matching car. I didn't check any of the numbers but even if it is not a real SS427, it is a nice looking car.

Why do people brag about original low mile cars when they have been complely reatored? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Frank, It's all a matter of terminology. To some, "original" means original components, restored or not. To others, it means original driveline. To still others, it means unrestored original components.

I love the people who describe their car as "survivor", then go on to say it was repainted!! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

I didn't intend to get a debate started here. I was just posting pictures of a nice looking and fairly rare car. I never said the car was a survivor. The story behind this Impala is that the current owners brother bought the car new. He drove it for a few years and lost interest in it. He parked it in an old barn on his Dad's property and basically forgot about it. He died a several years ago. The dad sold the property a few years ago and called his other son and told him that if he wanted the car he needed to come get it. He had forgotten about the car. He got the car and fixed it up. He added some chrome pieces under the hood, which I wouldn't have done. According to him the car sat in the barn for over 20 years. I don't care if the story is true or not. I would like to own the car.

The '67 does not appear to be an original 427 car. The emblems used on the '67 SS 427 Impalas were unique to that car---this car has the more common "Turbo Jet" style emblems such as a 396 Impala would have. It does appear to have a hood bulge but it's not clear from your photos that it's a correct SS 427 hood. Nice looking car but it might not be an original SS 427.

There's a dealer here who has one and claims that it is "1 of 12" so I called and asked what documentation they had. I caught him off guard and I'm pretty sure he really has no idea other than what the previous owner told him. It's a 4-speed car and he said the 4-speed cars are really rare, but I'd be willing to bet that a third of SS427s were sticks. At least through 1967, most hi-po cars were sticks till the advent of TH400.

There's another one in the area as well, so does that make it 2 of 12? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I believe 427TJ is correct, but let me add a little more: This car looks like it is an original '67 Impala SS with an L-36 427 (385HP), but is NOT an original SS427 (RPO Z-24) Impala. The SS427 (RPO Z-24) option had special emblems and did not carry the standard Impala emblem as seen on this cars fender. This car does look as though it has the SS427 hood with the fake tri-power insert for some reason. So, I guess the question could be... Which is not original, the emblems or the hood?

Depending on the build plant, look for the 4D on the cowl tag. This will determine of it is the RPO SS427 or a Super Sport w/427 or not (again dependent on plant).

Thanks for the info. I'll check it a little closer next time I see it. What would the value be if it is a Super Sport w/427? Any idea how many were built?
Thanks, James

Only 2124 1967 SS Impala 427's were built.

How many of those were convertibles?

To clarify, the number above is for SS427 cars. It does not include Impala SSs with 427s.

There is no breakdown on how many SS427s were ragtops.

In my opinion only, the Super Sport with a 427 is likely not worth much more than the Super Sport 396. The RPO package is what gives the Z24 SS427 it's value besides the fact that there are many VERY expensive and valuable parts on the Z24 that are not on the Super Sport. Having one of each of the 3 years and each body style adds even more value. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Mr70, are you crossing over to the dark side now or what? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif
