A number of years ago, I found a survivor '70 SS396. I can't remember if it had the cowl hood, but it had no stripes, which is unusual for these cars (especially with cowl). I was not savvy enough at the time to figure out to check the redline, but I am pretty sure it had no AC - an L78 car? Lots of stuff on the hood, and the owner's elderly father didn't want any of that.
At this point, I've given up trying to find a diamond-in-the-rough as I don't know when I'll ever be in that area. However, if someone is around Bentleyville, I'd be more than happy to give you directions.

Hey Diego! That's deep in the heart of Yenko country. Not too far from SCW headquarters, but I'm sure there are others in the neighborhood...

Hit me with a PM including some directions to it's last known whereabouts. I'm always game for a Chevy muscle scavenger hunt.
Do you remember what color it was,as well as interior color,& Manual or Auto.trans?
I know of a Black Cherry (Maroon) L78 in Western Pa.

Does anyone know what happened to the Cranberry Red/bench seat/4 speed super low mile survivor '70 LS-6 that was originally sold from Marhefka Chevrolet in Windber, PA? I know it was pulled out of Davidsville, PA a long while ago, was once owned by Roger Ausley of Ausley's Chevelle parts, and then it was sold to another owner who turned it for somewhere around $135,000 on ebay about 4 years ago. I'm curious as to who ended up with this car and where it's at today. Probably the coolest '70 I've ever seen or heard about.
Are you talking about the one Steve Stange was selling.
It is in a private collection in the Northeast last I heard.I think it's still there?

It was Cranberry Red. I don't remember tranny, but I bet it was a stick. I took a pic of it but it did not come out. Owner's father was quite elderly and was bragging how much the cars were going for. Of course, I tried to reason him to no avail.
"What hp?"
"A lot."
"The 454 has a lot. This is a 396."
"The boy's uncle told me it had the biggest hp."
(In my mind,) "Grrrr . . . " http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

C'mon guys! If you want the car bad enough, you should be emailing ME, not vice versa! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burnout.gif
Anyway, what I recall from 1996, I got off the Bentleyville exit of the Turnpike, then probably made a right. Not far from there was a service garage on the left. It was attached to a house. A very old man owned it. His son's car, of which he was the original owner (and lived in W. Virginia), was out back in the house's garage. A few hundred yards further on the street, for a frame of reference, was a strip mall on the right.
If anyone follows up on this, I'd appreciate an update on the car just for curiosity's sake. Happy hunting!

What's more to tell? There was a lot more crap on the car this time. I now know the tach would have helped determine what 396 it had, but with the things blocking the doors . . . but it's an original red no stripe car.
It's been 9 years. Old man is now 82. They didn't remember me. His wife still was standoff-ish too. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
