We are starting up a picture post section of the website, if you have registered for this event,
(or are planning to attend) send me a picture of your ride, along with a few comments about it. Such as

what engines in it
What class you intend to run in
How long you have had it
How you got it
have you raced before
etc.etc... actually any short description would be fine

Should have the picture posts section up in a few weeks. Your car will be seen by 100's of visitors a day, and will be sure to get the notice of some magazine writers who plan on attending the event.
Please email these to me ..Thanks

There will also be a Ford car show event happening at the track this day. Every entry in the race program, in Factory Stock Class or FAST DRAGS gets a trophy, and a cool pic with a trophy girl!!

We are also planning to have other muscle car clubs hold shows at these events, if you have a club that would be interested in attending, please email me.

I thought the event started on Friday as a test/tune day, with the best of 3 Factory Stock racing on Saturday? Is Friday a tune day?

supergonzo
07-16-2004, 03:49 AM
For some reason my reply disappeared?

Yes, Friday evening session is always test and tune. You can test and tune Friday, but there will be other cars besides factory stock and FAST DRAGS cars as well.

Obviously you cannot rent out the Englishtown racetrack, for the weekend , unless you have an extra $50K laying around.

Saturday is the race day for Factory Stock and the FAST DRAG
event. Yes, there are qualifying runs and best of 3 shootout. Depending upon the time we could run other heads up grudge type matches after the event.

I just wanted to mention that SUNDAY is the Funny Car Reunion and Nostalgia day. The next event that we hold at Englishtown, will be a 2 day event, next year.

It's starting to rain here now. This morning's forecast didn't paint a very good picture for tomorrow. Sunday was supposed to be great, but now they're saying Sunday may have it's problems too.

By the way, I live 20 minutes from the track. If anyone has a mechanical problem that can't be addressed at the track, my tools and equipment are available to help. PM me before 5pm today if you want my contact information. (otherwise, I'm in the phone book anyway)

Looks like I'll be tuning up my workbench for some serious indoor bench racing on Saturday. Hey Verne wanna race? Hope Sunday is better weather. Will the FAST show be moved to Sunday or re-scheduled? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Tommorrow looks like scattered showers for e-town, The track will be open and they can dry the track between showers if need be. You never know, if it is a total washout then there Will be a rain date, I just don't know when that will be yet.
I have gotten 30+ emails today from people who were planning upon going , but do not want to travel in the rain.
I am sure attendance will be affected, However:

Theres nothing I can do about the rain, we are still planning to hold the event, unless of course the track closes. You never know about these things, sometimes the day can turn out better than expected.

No rain now over NJ

Raceway Park is coming up with a rain date of POSSIBLY the last weekend in August. I will announce the date once I have it locked in.

I am actually a little peeved at Raceway Park, because they cancelled the event due to rain on their recorded announcement very early in the morning, and then as the weather got a little better there, they shortened and revised the message to indicate that they were holding drag racing events today.

This resulted in about 12 cars showing up for the event after it had already been posted that it was cancelled due to rain.
I know they are a business and want to get as much money in as possible over the weekend, but I am a little concerned about the perception of the racers who did show up, only to find there would be no trophies, no FAST DRAGS racing format, etc.etc.

I just spoke to Andrew at Raceway Park.
They had to make a decision early this morning, and it was pouring here this morning.
The decision was made to call a rain date.
Some did show up, including Marlin, and are making passes as we speak....as many as they would like, I guess you could call it kind of like free practice??

If the track was all about money, after the weather cleared up this morning they could have just announced that today's event is on as scheduled.

The owners of the track, the Napp family, are some of the best enthusiasts and promoters you will ever meet. Year after year they put alot of money back into the track. One of the best 1/4 mile tracks, a seperate 1/8 mile track, the junior drag program, the motorcross track, slalom, airport, montor trucks, etc etc etc.

I am heading over in a little while to watch.
Hvchvy, I will report Marlins progress to you later on tonight.... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I got 2 complimentary passes in with the 02.
a 13.5 first, then a 12.7 @ 117.68

thats without burnout, street tires and fairly easy launch and easy 1-2 shift.
anyone remember what times larry c. was getting last year with slicks?

supergonzo
07-25-2004, 02:33 AM
Yes, the Napps are good people, I am glad they allowed free passes to be made, I didn't want anyone to go home feeling too disappointed. So I feel better knowing they made up for some of the confusion involving the rain date.

I will let everyone know when I have firm rain date.

Just back from E-town. Although the Factory Stock and FAST Drags were cancelled I still had a great time in the pits. The old Funny Cars are all there and a few good venders selling vintage stuff for the Sunday F/C Reunion. BTW, there was a Gobi 70 Deuce making passes all day and I got a few pics on the starting line and in the staging lanes. If someone here can post them for me, I can email them to you. I hear it was real fast and something was spraying out from under the hood near the windshield area just before he made his last pass. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burnout.gif

I just got back from e-town. We had so much fun
we stayed over for sundays old funny car reunion.
Man was it awesome watching the old drag and funny
cars run.The FAST drags were pretty cool to watch also.
I got to meet Merlin and Shor and watch The 02 #15 ZL1
run down the track (will give you goosebumps). As far as Merlin times I cannot disclose that info at this time(it's
much more suspenseful that way). It took us 7 hours to get
from CT to e-town Friday night, but was worth it to spend the weekend watching these great cars. I wish I took my camera but I did'nt.

I've been called a lot worse than Merlin! It was nice to meet you at the track, and several other folks as well.

At 11:00 there were 3 FAST cars and me! By noon however, 2 more F/S cars arrived. A '69 AMX with 343 and 4speed, and a '71 GTO with an a/t. I raced them both over the course of the afternoon, and had a lot of fun.

It was an all around good day! The weather got better, the reschedule date was finalized before we left, met some really nice F.A.S.T. guys, and actually improved my times over the course of the afternoon - no particulars though http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The best part of the day however, was the hospitality of Andrew Hinckley. No better way to enjoy a race than to have the track announcer give you personal tours of the place, explain how everything works, introduce you to so many people that I can't remember, sending out workers to make sure my car was alright after my initial pass, etc... A big, big thanks to Andrew!

Then to top off my photographic weekend, while the camera was in my pocket, Jungle Pam walked by and the zoom lens decides to deploy like it swallowed a couple Viagras. Hey Frank, some fyi;
I know we were bantering about weight, so I weighed my car after my first run. I was surprised to see 3590 lbs on the scale! I assumed it would be lighter, the curb weight for a base V8 Nova is around 3100 lbs. However, after I factored in my 215 lbs, that left 285 for optional stuff. In talking with MikeA about it yesterday, we id'd several things on the Yenko Novas that were not included in the base Nova that would increase the weight. Things like power brakes, disc brakes, HD cooling system, rear sway bar, AM radio, dual exhaust with resonators, possibly the Magnum wheels, etc... So, if you get a chance to go 'test-n-tune' weigh your car to see if you are in that range also.

I had a few gremlins to work out. With the help of the other FAST guys, especially Brian Rodekopf of Kansas City, we got the car into a respectable time category. Keep in mind that it was 96% humidity, and a slippery starting line - so we were looking at MPH instead of time. Brian made a run in the car too, might just have myself a ringer driver as he posted 4mph higher than my best!

The rain date for this event has been officially changed by Raceway Park to:

Saturday November 13th

Details at www.musclecarrace.com (http://www.musclecarrace.com)

Thank You Marlin, for making the trip, and all the others who did brave the weather, sorry it didn't turn out as planned, hopefully the cool November air will help get those ET's down really low.

The 11.40's were run by Greg Gessler, one of the Top FAST competitors in the country. He is a genius with Buicks.
