If anybody wants to know about the car please let me know. Its got tons of potential and will make a neat car when completed. I only want to sell it because the body shop that is working on it has not done much to it since October and I am getting the bug to drive a Camaro during the summer.

Welcome aboard Mark.... I seen this car so I listed it here for everyone to see.. I wish my Z had 4:56 gears http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif but it was born with the 3:73... Neat car: too bad you cant wait for her to be completed... Mark

I am just asking for my own curiosity. Why are there dashes instead of a paint code on the cowl tag? Thanks. Good luck.

Mark, thank you for posting pictures of the car on this site. In fact before I bought the car I asked for advise about buying the car from the people on this web site and everybody warned me against doing a project this far apart. But I kept looking at the crossram with the car and thinking I could put this car together by myself and save allot of money, well I was wrong. I have only seen a few dash-dash paint codes on camaros, my understanding is that it means the car was ordered with no stripes like the 1821 mile car on the Coast to Coast web sight. Or the car was ordered in a color that was not normally availabile for a camaro or it was delivered in primer only. Like the SS-RS camaro that World wide muscle cars had last year that was resprayed in UCLA blue.

That's correct, either no stripes or a non-standard color stripe.
Looks like a nice project. Former race car? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Its a neat car and a sure head turner when its completed... I would light a fire under the body man ass and tell him to paint my car... Its down hill from there, I know it cant be done over-night??? but this car looks like one to wait for expecially if you do indeed have a cross ram for it... To here cars with solid lifters is great, but behind the wheel of a DZ car is even better... I cant tell you how many times I take my Z out and have people come up to me and ask me to start my car just so they can hear the lifters clatter, its great... TO add fuel to the conversation when I found the car it had a date coded 309 brake master cylinder but no proportioning valve and power booster. But it had the drum brake rear end and the regular disc brake front end. It had the GM heater delete plates on the firewall but there is no dash carrier in the car, so I did not get the inner heater delete plate. I found a decent reproduction inner heater delete plate and a reproduction wood grain radio delete plate because it would not go with the rest of the car to put a radio in. Yes I do have a complete crossram for the car that I just bought from Heartbeat city awhile back because I sold the set up that came with the car thinking I could get a better one. The motor is off on the numbers though. Its a 618 block and 186 heads all cast in Feburary 1969 but it has a TO521DZ stamp on the pad with the car's complete VIN on the pad in small numbers like a LA built car but its a Norwood car with no VIN by the oil filter. I attached a picture of the motor as it came with the car. Did I understand right, that a dash-dash paint code could also mean the car was ordered with a differnt color stripe than the regular option of black or white? A couple of years ago I was talking to somebody who said that he ordered a black 1969 Z/28 camaro with silver stripes. I assumed that he got a solid black car and the dealer sprayed the stripes. Did I assume wrong?

From camaros.org
[ QUOTE ]
SPECIAL PAINT DESIGNATION. Special paint cars were identified with a unique paint code on the firewall cowl tag. (In 1968-69, either deletion of a stripe or use of a non-standard stripe color were considered to be special paint.) 1967 special paint cars used the letter "O" instead of the normal color code. In January 1968, the letter "Z" paint code was used to denote the newly available Camaro color called British Green and notation of special order paint was changed to a dash "-". The "-" (dash) special paint code continued for the rest of the 1968 model year as well as for the entire 1969 model year.

How much are you asking for the car? Does your Camaro have the original motor and trans? Thanks.

Mark, sometimes the VIN stamping is very faint to almost nothing down on the side of the rear of the block when they were stamped. You are correct in saying that a VIN not visible or missing down there is somewhat common. I have had 2 or 3 over the years that were like this. My 69 PaceCar has the #'s down in the rear area and they were almost stamped correctly as well; They are there for my block but not perfectly http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

I posted the car on the Team Camaro site and offered it with another motor that I had bought for the car. The other motor is a date coded 010 block CE warranty code 302 long block with matching 186 heads and 1178 crank. Its been in storage for some time in a shop although it look like it came out of the car yesterday. I took a deposit on the other motor and crossram yesterday. I am offering the motor, rolling body shell with doors, all the glass, trunklid, all new front sheet metal, firewall heater delete plates, completly rebuilt disc brake subframe, replated brake power booster, rebuilt 309 brake master cylinder, factory 4:56 ratio 12 bolt posi rear end and many other small parts for $29,500 or offer. I can deduct parts or add parts like a rebuilt fine spline M-22 muncie and many other new parts to suite whatever your needs are and to come up with a fair price. I know not everyone is able to fly out to Southern California to see the potential this car has but I have a bunch of pictures and I will answer any questions you have. My home e-mail is

Car is back on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=2481936803
So is the axle and the engine, in separate auctions. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Don't mean to stir the pot, but I'd be remiss if didn't say: I don't like the look of that trim tag..... and no exhaust doubler plate.

The shifter hole does not appear to be cut with a torch like Z28's were.

Here is a picture of the trim tag, can you tell me what you see that is wrong? The car has the plates for the dual exhaust on the frame rails. I will get better pictures for you and Charley later this week. I had given up on selling the car and it was still in storage at the body shop but e-bay had a sale on their ads last week. At a $1.50 per ad it was too good of a deal to pass up. I took a deposit from somebody on the 12:1 compression motor and the crossram set up about 45 days ago then I never heard from the guy again. I thought if I lower the price on the car, it would be a good deal for somebody. Charley do you have plans on coming to southern California in the near future? Come take a look at the car to let everyone know if its real or not.

The fonts on the tag are not correct and there are some spacing problems.
I noticed the shifter hole, but I couldn't be sure from that pic and the console nuts look right.
This pic from the auction shows no doubler plate.

Mark... Take a close look at the hole for the shifter. Orig Z28 ones were cut with a torch and not a saw. I don't want us be the bearers of bad news but we might be. The exhaust plate should be welded to the frame rail and in the pic it just looks like the frame is drilled. I can put you in touch with someone in LA that could examine the car. I'd be interested in the Xram but I know you have your hands full.

I think I need to go back to the shop and take a look at the car. I feel that I am on thin ice when I say I disagree with Kurt on the trim tag because I have pictures of trim tags from the same May sequence that look very close. But I do not have an explanation for the missing plate and I will look at the shifter hole. Gee thanks for the bad news guys but it might be better now than when I dump $50,000 in the car thinking its real.

my 69Z has X3 in yellow crayon marked on the passenger side behind the rear seat back on the package tray frame next to the rear wheelhouse. it will be looking right at you if you take the rear seat back out. mine is marked and then they sprayed the glue over the crayon mark for the jute.just my 2 cents. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

The NOR number looks really crooked and the shifter hole does look too clean to be cut with a torch.
