Utah had it's 1st swap meet today at the Fairpark. I saw a rusty 57 Chevy project for 1500, a 69 Buick GS400 4spd, wacked hard in the rear, no price posted. I got a "403" Aluminum bellhousing for 20, a SB Aluminum Manifold for 30 clams. Took a wish list for the Camaro and found nothing. Alot of Atlas looking 5 spoke mags for around 35 apiece, wish I knew more what to look for on those. Next swap and show is at UVSC College. Lots of parts but haven't seen a "rare" part in 15 years. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

You never know what you can find at a flea market too?
This weekend I bought a 7" rally with the original silver paint on it for $2.50. "K17 1 15FV" date code. I got the guy to take 1/2 price because the tire on it had steel cords showing.
I also found a Corvette distributor for $50. Tach gears were good. '72 LT-1 number. Two Dual line holly float bowls for $1 each. One has the 50 cc pump on it.
Then I got a huge set of hold down bolts and nuts and the wooden blocks that hold them that go in the groves of my Bridgport Vertical mill. There was some tooling in it too. One turned out that it fit the quick change head on my Lathe and it was one that I did not have. Internal boring bar on one end and a cutting tool on the other.
I am sure that each of them cost good money. The guy had got all of them at a auction. I couldn't beleive my eyes. I have needed the proper hold down bolts (I don't know what the proper name of them is) I gave $50 for everything. By the time I got back to pick it up with the car he said he had 4 higher offers and finally had to cover it up with a blanket to keep people from bugging him about it. This was 5 boxes full of very heavy stuff. I was sweating big time by the time I carried it into the back of the shop.
I am glad that I have bought lots of stuff off Don over the years and he would not sell it out from under me. he also sold me a gas pump for $200 last year.
Sorry I just had to brag a little. the point that I want to make is that it makes no mater wether it is a Auto swapmeet or a Flea market if you know what to look for and get there early you just never know what you will find.

You beat a guy down to $2.50 from a $5.00 asking price on a rally wheel? I'm impressed! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I bet you made him give you change for a 20 didn't you?

He sold nothing but junk and the wheel just happened to catch my eye. I didn't realize how good it was till I owned it.
I learned long ago that these people just want to get rid of it so they don't have to haul it back home.
If he had asked what it should have been worth, then I would not have tried to beat him down so far. BTY:I did have correct change.
But that is Rule #2...!!! Always carry plenty of small change and smaller bills. You never know what you will miss because the person can't make change. I had to hussle to break a $100 bill, for the distributor. I didn't want to give him all my small bills.

Good advise on the smaller bills, a red wagon is good for hauling around stuff also. I think I'm going to take a mag wheel lesson or two. I really like the old mag wheels and there was quite a few available. In the late 70's it was Crager SS or Ansen Sprints in my area. Day two stuff seems to be very popular now. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Pantera,
I am beginning to think you are the King of swap meets. The fun of the swap meets is trying to talk them down. Keep up the good work. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif
Hey Brent,
I probably walked right past you a couple times!
The fair grounds meet is the first "auotmotive" meet of the year here, and you usually don't find a whole lot there.
I just go to see how many of my old buddies I can run into, and BS with for a while.
I had to laugh at the GS...the deck lid was almost in the back seat! A fairly decent restoreable 69 MAch 1...for 8k.
There were a couple of pretty cool rides in the parking lot.
The meet at UVSC is WAY better, and the biggest FREE car show of the year. We go early for the swap meet, then spen the rest of the day looking at cars in the show. Keeps getting bigger every year.

Dennis, I wonder if the GS got any offers? It was hit so hard I can't believe it is still in one piece. A good buy if you need a really complete parts car though...it was complete. When is UVSC? I went last year but forgot what time of year it was. Thanks, Brent http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif
Hey Brent,
Not exactly sure on the date, but I think it's the Sat. of Memorial weekend May 29th. I'm thinking there will be an ad in next weeks Sunday paper in the Antiques/Classics section of the classifieds. I look forward to it every year.
It's deffinitely the biggest swap meet around here, and probably the best car show of the year. AND it's free!
I've thought about e-mailing you before whan I saw where you were located. I live in South Jordan, but I work in Orem. I make the 60 mile round trip 5 nights a week!
Got to love the point of the mountain in the winter!!
First major drag event at RMR is that Sat. May 29th also.
Jet car spring nationals, along with West coast top sportsman, and summit ET series. The top sportsman class is awesome. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burnout.gif
Just found out...

Just where is that at? Not all of us know where it is held?

The first meet mentioned in the beginning of the thread was at the Salt lake county fairgrounds in Salt Lake City.
It's always the first of the year, and usually isn't that great.
The UVSC meet is at a colledge in Orem, Utah, which is in Utah County, about 40 miles South of Salt Lake City.
Somewhere around 500 cars in the show, and the biggest automotive swap meet in the area. Nothing like Pomona or anything, but the biggest, and best in this area. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Thanks Dennis. Pantera,I went last year and there was a ton of stuff (for Utah) but there wasn't anyhing Chevy wise that was "rare" at all. The only thing I could have got was a tailgate for my 72 Chev truck., but you never know till you go.

I would love to come out that far but it is just a little too far for this time of year.
I am trying to find some 074 alum heads that are dated in 70 to bring my 70 motion back to original LS-7 trim. It has a LS-6 in it now and so the serch goes on.
I also need a few small parts for my 7k mi Nova. Not to mention there are 12 more cars that I own that need this or that for them. "Pate" in Dallas was productive as I found a great grill for only $20.
Of course I love going to swap meets and Flea markets. You just never know what goodies you will find. like the original painted corvette rally wheel last week for $2.50 and a '72 LT-1 vette tach drive dist for $50.

I love swapmeets, but I must tell you I hate the wagons! Maybe it's not the wagons themselves but some of the people who pull them that are inconsiderate and block the entire row(wagon perpendicular to the row) to look at a part, etc. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif
Maybe its just me, but sometimes I really want to kick those damn wagons! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Don't get me wrong, I have even used a wagon once or twice to pick up a big part but I do my best to watch where I'm going. Feel free to use a wagon; but be considerate or I may just kick it! Just had to get that off my chest.

I can't agree more. I ask them nicely to move them out of the way? Then I ask them if they think they are the only ones there wanting to look at parts? I feel that those that use them should be extra considerite of those around them wanting to look too.
Then if they act like a jerk then I move it out of the way. Of course it helps to be 6' 3" 225 lbs.
I have been using a 2 wheel dolly with plastic milk carton cases to put stuff into. I try to leave it to the side out of the way. Then I will go back and forth to three or four stands then come move it up and start over again. Just one heavy item will wear you out and a dolly or wagon really helps. I have a small bicyle type basket that is at the top to put some part # reference books in and a drink cooler to avoid the high cost of drinks that they sell at these things. A few shop rags and a bottle of 409 can be a real help too. I carry my camera in a fanny pac. along with cards with my phone # on them to pass out.
So Pantera,
What Nova parts are you looking for?
I'm a bit of a Nova freak myself, and I'd be happy to keep an eye out for you. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif
Could also try placing a "wanted "add on Steve's nova site.
Lots of good people over there too.
Allen396 has a nice selection of Nova goodies.... http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/worship.gif

I need the eyebrow trim on the front fenders, a complete L-78 exaust system, gas tank with sending unit. Dog dish caps, 3 stock wheels correct dated for Feb or march of '69, air cleaner top with 375 hp decal and a correct dated dual line Holly carb.
Rubber mats F&R, door sill plates. R&L rear quarter panels (must be orignal GM). I am thinking of day 2 with this car as that is how it was left when the guy died and I am tempted to leave the air shocks on the rear and the traction bars on and just put a set of headers on it to make it 1972 date correct. I would like it better like that. With only 7,400 mi on it I can go both ways.
I guess I am being sentimental in thinking how I would have wanted my car to be left, if I was the guy that died. I would have wanted someone to finish what I had started, not put it back to original. Of course I am a Hotrod kinda guy. Since this car will be sold someday as I have just too many cars.
I suppose the next guy will do it the way he thinks is best. With only 7,400 mi on it I was thinking how neat it would be for the younger kids growing up today to actually see a period correct car that we all took for granted back during that time. A car setup this way was a pretty common thing back then. I almost think that, headers, air shocks and traction bars were more like std equipment to the average 20 year old's of that age. yes I was one of those so I can stil remember back that far. I was thinking that a pair of keystone mags on the front and some cheater slicks on black rims on the back would look like the cars I remember back then?

But then that is what this wonderful hobby is all about anyway?? To each their own.

Dennis, find anything at UVSC? I heard there was over 440 cars at the show, good for a rainy day. Not alot of parts I wanted. Got a nice BB Chev "198" intake. Saw a AM/FM bluelight, some BB exhausts, not much else. Brent
Nope....came home empty handed http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif well almost..My wife bought an old "jug".
Had lots of fun looking, and did manage to talk to some guys I hadn't seen in a while.
My buddy is looking for a project car, but we didn't find anything suitable. Ole Chip had a ROUGH '34 5 window coupe for $16.500...Jag rear, fresh SBC, body palenl patches Screwed together...
Some nice stuff in the car show as usual, lots of nice Mopars, lots of street rods, but only a handful of "real" SS Chevys. Did you see the Yenko "sort of clone" 69 Camaro?
Some day I'll make it to Pomona...for a "real" swap meet! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif

Or you can trip a little east where there were lots of performance cars. Say to Peotone Illinois fairgrounds on June 13th for the 5-6-7 Chevy clubs' swap and show. I used to haul truck loads of stuff out of there. Not all Chevy (and all years), but mostly. And no, Rodney Brockman didn't ask me to post this http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif. It's worth the 2 hour trip for me. Opens at 6am for everyone.
Rodney doesn't have to advertise that show anymore. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Next to SC Indy's swapmeet,& Jefferson Wisc.,Peotone is one of THE best Single Day Swapmeets in the Central US.
I can never get there early enough. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif
I don't think I'll be able to make that one, as I have a trip home to Northern Minnesota planned for the end of June.
Was a VERY Prosperous Day today. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
John
Hope you found some very sought after key components as much as I did.
Who needs Weathermen, when God Smiled on us.
Bravo Rodney!

There were flood warnings, but it wasn't raining at 4:00 am so I headed out anyway. It was worth the two hour drive! I used to sell http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif the same parts I am now buying to put a car together. I wish I had everything back I ever sold. I sold it all too cheap. Glad you had a good day too. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

We weren't the only ones from this board that were having a good time at Peotone yesterday. While I was walking around I saw a little white Chevy pickup with Illinois license plate YENKOSC parked between two of the buildings. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burnout.gif
There are a lot of people that like to keep good swaps like this one a secret. shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh................ http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

Finally got sick of bidding on overpriced online items and put a wanted ad in the local paper for 69 camaro parts. I got 1 call and a really nice gentleman sold me 2 fenders, deck lid, some glass, 2 doors, heater control, and a dash pad for a decent price. Granted not perfect parts but I like the old vintage GM stuff verses repops.I Couldn't believe I didn't get any calls for a parts car or a wrecked car. I know of 3 cars in my area but the owners are going to "fixem up someday" the search continues. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beers.gif

You don't have to get to Peotone too early. I bought 6 Hurst shifter from one vender at 10:30 Sunday morning and one of the shifters had a 1969 Camaro big block shifter mounting bracket and correct big block rods and levers. And to think I was going to stay home because of the weather...Crash
