What is the most effective non-destructive way to remove chrome plating? Has anyone had any first hand experience recently?

I'm pretty sure this can only be done as a reverse process of chroming.
It's not a do it yourself deal without the right equipment.
A chrome shops your best bet. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burnout.gif

Ken, i think this can be done with a lite acid solution bought at a hardware store. I think i rememeber dennis gilbert did something like this, send him a email. Not sure what kind of acid it was. Roger

Roger,
If tht's the case could you PM me with that too?
I didn't think you could do it at home. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
The only acid you can get in a hardware, as far as I know, is muratic acid used for etching concrete.
Muratic acid is also unbelievable for removing rust from steel! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/headbang.gif

I use a solution of 3 parts distilled water to 1 part muriatic acid. Takes about 10-15 minutes to take the chrome off. Solution is neutralized with baking soda afterwards.
Make sure you work in a well-ventilated area.
I've done this to Exhaust tips, and it works very well.
Don't ignore Denis's Ventilation & baking soda comment.

I can promice you he won't ignore that tip but once. Those fumes will curl the hair on your head just walking nearby. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
