I am looking for a project car to restore and was telling a friend that I wanted to do a '67 Z-28 or '70 LS6 Chevelle. He commented that it was much more expensive to restore a Chevelle vs. a Camaro in similar condition. Really??? Excluding motors, is this really true? If so, why? Thanks,

Maybe 10-15 years ago when there were far fewer Chevelle restoration parts/suppliers available than for Camaros, but today I don't know if that's still the case. I remember having a much rougher time finding trim pieces for my 67 Chevelle than I did a few years later for my 68 Camaro, but that was in 1985.
Times have changed.

Mark,
I have been working on a 69 Camaro Convertable and a 70 Chevelle SS for the last year. I think the costs are about the same. The Chevelle may have been a little more but not enough to really matter in the end. My painter charged more for the Chevelle but not alot, the rest has been about the same.

Thanks Steve, That's what I expected. I'm not sure why my friend thought it would be a lot more to do the Chevelle, but he was adamant that it would cost significantly more??? Take care,

Mark:
No question - costs are similar. The exception, as mentioned above, would be paint as the Chevelle is a bigger car. There are so many variables: vinyl top, missing parts, etc.
The red 67Z is next in line (I think) after a current project. I'm still not sure about the block originality (I haven't taken it apart), but there have been no unpleasant surprises with the rest of the car. It was never a number 1 car as stated in the 80's ad (#3 at best!), but it is very correct (including spring tags).

Chevelle will cost more to do. Little more in paint, and a full frame to do instead of a piece of one. Larger under floor area also. How much more $$ depends on the quality of the redo.

Thanks Micky, I appreciate you sharing your experience.
Dave: Great to hear that you like the car. I knew it was the real deal and that it wasn't really molested over the years. It will be beautiful once it is done! Please feel free to email pics of your progress to me...I'd like to follow this one http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burnout.gif If I can help out at all let me know.
