Anyone know anything about this car? Real, or not.
L89 Pace Car on Ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=2480940000&catego ry=6161&sspagename=WDVW)
Not that I could afford it anyway.

I was told last night that according to the old Pace car registry back in about 89 this car had a smallblock and no paperwork. Also no tach or heaterbox.

Confirmed. A converted car. Larry Christensen installed the L89 and did a beautiful job on the car. Someone later added the POP.
I informed the seller and offered documentation of this on 6/2/04, he hasn't updated his ad......

No info on the Z. Nice looking car. But the VIN doesn't match the trim tag. Ouch. 03E NOR 289653 tag on a 9N574783 car.
Is that Lemans blue? Looks light, like Glacier, but I can't remember the 69 blues.
I saw the pacer a year ago. It is nice! Sold for mid 30's then. POP is/looks brand new.
Seller's response on if it was a L89 car:
> Everything indicates that it is. Date Codes, Protect-0 etc. This car is absolutly New. It came out of a Musuem in CO.

This is what happens when people build these exact clones. Someone down the line gets burned, greed or stupidity...

When I emailed him and asked the specific question :"Is this an original L89 car or a converted smallblack car?" his vague, non-specific, lawsuit avoiding answer was as follows:
"The car was already restored when i bought it. i have never done anything to the car during the time i've owned it. The protect-0-plate matches the car and motor, as well as all date codes are in line. The car has orginal quarters, fenders, pans etc. the valve covers wrer removed and the heads are correct casring numbers and dates #3919842. There will be no dissapointments with this car"
Things that make you go HMMMMMMMM!

At least you got a response. I wrote with some questions and haven't as yet gotten a reply.

Umm, so did he pull those heads to see the dates?? http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Could be a real disappointed buyer if they think it is real.......

Well, it's up to 70K now, reserve not met 2 1/2 days to go. Guess an L89 adds about 35K to a cars value, how much does it cost to assemble one, about 15K? That's a pretty good return on investment.

You just need to remember to restamp the block and get a fake POP to match it and you're looking at big $$$. What becomes worrisome about all these "built" cars having fake documentation and restamps is that as time goes by, people will start to lose track of which cars are real and which are built. I know CRG keeps track of cars and that is a big help for the Camaro hobby.

Which is why Jim Mattison's project will be invalueable in documenting our cars.
It's just taking so %&$# long to do! http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif If it's going to be done at all. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dunno.gif
I just looked at the auction and Anderson,SC is only 35 mins away from my house. As a matter a fact, I live on Anderson Hwy. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif I sure would like to check it out.
