Did some traveling the last two days in Mass. Saw a number of American flags that were tattered and faded yet still flying on flag poles and buildings. I stopped to talk to people about this and they didn't seem to understand the issue. I pointed out that Americans are giving their lives for that flag and that the least we can do for them is to display it proudly and properly. So, if you fly it do it with respect and encourage others to do likewise. It is the least that we can do for those who defend it.

I find it odd when i travel through the states that there are alot of flags flying everywhere. It's not like that here in Canada, not that it's a bad thing, just an observation. http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burnout.gif

Tom - you are so right but modern thought is the tattered and torn look is something to be proud of. It's like my flag is beat up so I'm more partotic than the guy that just went to walmart and has a brand new one...

It's too bad tradition has become old fashion in todays world... Welcome to the "Me Generation!!"

Being a combat veteran of two gulf wars and a lover of freedom, cars, good looking woman, and hard work, I fly my flag high and proud everyday. For me it's a norm. I often think I'm the only one in my neighborhood that is still flying my flag at half staff in respect, and more importantly proper protocol for a fallen leader. If everyone stopped their bitching about events and became more involved, which starts right at home, at the base of the flag pole we all would be better united as a whole. Our American flag is the strongest form of respect, and symbol of freedom that we can display FREE.

For those that fly old glory proper, and true, my hats off to you !.

Remember, the war's not over so let's show each other that we really care.

My 2 cents.

I'm pleased with the good words and grateful to those who have served. My father was in the USN from 45-47. It was a different world then. There were lots of guys and gals along way from home who looked up to that flag and felt they were closer to home. Fly it proudly and with respect!

Tattered and faded flags should be "destroyed in a dignified way".

Thanks for posting the regulations. Everyone should print out a copy and keep it for reference.
